The Apostle: The Life of Paul (John Pollock Series)

5.0 out of 5 stars Read This Book!, July 21, 2014

Mr. Pollock gives us an intriguing look at the Apostle Paul through a most interesting historical unfolding of his life, his personal experiences, and through the exhibition of his unconquerable faith in Christ. The author helps us to better understand the writings of Paul from the perspective of what he was going through in his personal life, and his interactions with his companions and the various congregations of believers he helped to establish. You get a deeper look into his motives, actions and reactions to the times and the reality of the Christ within him. As you follow the sensitive way in which the author presents the true devotion Paul had toward God and his unshakeable faith in Christ, and his love for all men, 'especially those of the household faith,' you are deeply moved as you read of the sufferings of Paul as he preached the gospel and finally gave his life for what he knew to be true. Pollock helps us to see Paul in ways we might not be able to see him if we only read some verses here and there from his epistles. Read this book, it will be well worth your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless Thoughts!, January 25, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The thoughts contained in this book are 'timeless.' They have come to us from thinkers throughout the ages, yet their significance still resonates within our minds today as; "truth." The authors who selected these sayings and quotations, elaborate briefly, after stating each one of them. This serves to expand on the aforementioned thoughts and to emphasize further their meaning. To take the time to read this book will be well worth the pleasurable effort. Thurman L Faison - Author - " The Spirit Of Man".

5.0 out of 5 stars A FANTASTIC ADDITION TO MY IPAD, October 19, 2013
I AM REALLY LOVING THIS LOGITECH KEYBOARD. IT IS A FANTASTIC ADDITION TO MY iPAD. I CAN USE IT ON MY JOB WHEN I GO OUT TO DO HOME VISITS. I WAS USING THE KEYBOARD ON MY iPAD BUT IT WAS SO SMALL AND STRESSFUL WHEN THE CLIENT IS TALKING AND I AM TRYING TO INPUT INFORMATION AT THE SAME TIME. WITH THIS DEVICE IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE MY COMPUTER WITH ME WITHOUT THE BULK. THE KEYPAD FEELS VERY GOOD UNDER MY FINGERS AND THE KEYS ARE EASY TO TYPE ON. I REALLY LOVE IT AND FIND THAT A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN SOLVED USING IT. IT IS ALSO LIGHT WEIGHT AND EASY TO CARRY RIGHT IN MY BAG. THANKS FOR SUCH A DEVICE THAT I WILL USE FREQUENTLY.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Grace, October 11, 2013

This review is from: Destined To Reign (Kindle Edition)
This book by Joseph Prince is about 'More Grace.' He intimates that we seem more fearful of relying on grace than upon law. We can try until the world ends to be perfect and yet we will never reach that goal. His emphasis is upon the perfect sacrifice of the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. He wants us to realize that our righteousness which is as filthy rags will never balance the account with God. Christ is the Sacrifice and the Savior and the work of our perfection is finished. We cannot grow in our efforts to be good and suddenly we will become good. We actually can only grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord. For indeed it has been said of the Lord " He gives more grace." This is our dependence all the days of our life. Thurman Faison, author "Be Spiritually Bold" & "To The Spiritually Inclined."

5.0 out of 5 stars Focused and Sensible, August 2, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The president in this interview remains focused and sensible. This has been his position throughout his presidency. His continued emphasis of the 'common good,' and the needs of 'all the People' is undeniably on target. Most reasonable and unbiased Americans will have to admit that his concern for a strong middle class and the needs of the poor has been a constant plea to Congress to act in the best interest of everyone. If the center and the bottom of the nation fall apart there will not be much left for those up top to count on, and in time, productivity will fade and discontent and disalusionment will set in and trust in the government as a whole will dissipate. The principles that the president upholds and still fights for is fairness and opportunity for all people as a whole, and to have the government refuse to do what it can do for the benefit of 'all the people' is appalling. It is sad but true, that in both the Senate and the House, the Republicans have fought everything the president has proposed, and filibustered and blocked proposal after proposal. Instead of being committed to the uplifting of the nation; the majority of the Republicans have focused their attention more on refusing to cooperate with the president even at the expense of the people, than in passing sensible legislation that will help all the people and not just favor those who are at the top.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unity Not Conformity, July 31, 2013

The author in his, 'A Generous Orthodoxy' seeks to show his 'connections' with the various aspects of the church universal. We who believe and associate with one or another branch of Christianity are reminded that there is really only 'One church,' but it has various dimensions and expressions. When a particular interest in thought or doctrine has emerged and takes on a more prominent role in the expression of the faith, it may become a new denomination, or a new assembly of believers, with a different emphasis and a more distinct presentation of an old thought. But that old thought has it's origin somewhere in the scriptures which then becomes their primary focus. I believe this is why Mr. McLaren is expressing himself as being to some degree allied to the church-at-large with it's many divisions, without committing himself totally to all that one group or another may be continually trumpeting. He recognizes that we are all still growing in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord. He has an interesting approach and if the book is read all the way through without a quick 'reactionary' charge of heresy, it will prove to be of value to any thoughtful believer. Thurman L Faison, author "To The Spiritually Inclined," "Be Spiritually Bold."

5.0 out of 5 stars Inside Out!, July 28, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book by Mr.Trine is basically a treatise on what we might call 'the inner life expressed in the outer life'. He was deeply committed to the teaching of Jesus that; "the kingdom of God is within you," and that there are 'Higher Powers of Mind and Spirit.' Because of this fact he seeks to emphasize that personal salvation is not to be the prime focus of the believers concern, but rather, how to express the nature of the kingdom in our acts and thoughts in the many affairs of the world around us. He says "to strike the right balance in life is one of the supreme essentials of all successful living." He relates the spiritual life within to the problems and concerns of the many happenings of the time in which he was living. A very spiritually enlightened man dealing with the importance of not hiding our knowledge of truth under a bushel but showing it to the world in our everyday living. Author, "Be Spiritually Bold," "To The Spiritually Inclined."

In the midst of an explosion of philosophies and a questioning of almost everything in existence, both ourselves and the surrounding universe; William James charts a course of thought that challenged the foundations of them all. Whether it was Evolution, Determinism, Empiricism, Agnosticism, Atheism or branches of them all, he adroitly works through their reasonings and brings us back to the basics. It will take some time and focus to read this remarkable book, but it will be well worth your time. Thurman L Faison author "Be Spiritually Bold," and "To The Spiritually Inclined."
