5.0 out of 5 stars Another Hit by Ashton, March 10, 2013

This review is from: At the Sharpe End (Paperback)
This is an excellent read, couldn't put it down until my eyes burned. Ashton takes us to Tokyo--the real Tokyo, not some touristy version--and shows us its underbelly. His characters are realistic, scary when called for, lovable when appropriate, both feminine and masculine true to their sex and background. He makes you care about the good guys and wish only the worst for the rest. His story is smart and so is his hero. Sharpe may not be a handsome Bond type of guy, but you see a beautiful mind with all it's human foibles. He's been through bad times and good, he just wants to do his thing and live his life and that's what we want for him, too. He's gotten himself in a mess--well, you really can't blame "him". It was foisted upon him. But, no matter how bad things get, Sharpe does what he can to stay on top of it all. He never knows who he can trust--with few exceptions--and uses his wits to stay alive.

Get the book! Root for Sharpe! Then, look for more by Ashton...that's the best advice I can give you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Continuation of Post-Trail of Tears Mysteries, March 2, 2013
The author has taken us beyond the Trail of Tears, its torturous journey, starvation, death by the thousands, illness and degradation beyond our imagining. Now, the plot to keep desperately needed supplies from reaching those for whom the government intended, a new hell has overcome the People. Whiskey. The greed that drove the white man to decimate an entire people to get the land that was supposed to sustain them--but never could or would--continues. Now the weapon of choice is not as much starvation, while that is still being employed where it can be hidden, but death by alcohol. The People, once introduced to whiskey begin to destroy themselves. Wheezer and Sasa, with help from Jackson and his friends, step up to the plate once more. Obviously, since it is a battle still being fought in the 21st century, you, the reader, cannot expect a resolution to the real problem. However, Ms. Sutton has presented a very lively and entertaining and informative story of one more groups' attempt to destroy what will not go easily.

I look forward to more by Ms. Sutton. She tells an exquisite tale and teaches us without hitting us over the head. Reality does a good enough job of that, if we just bother to look!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lesson in Understanding, February 26, 2013
The Trail of Tears--a story we hear bits and pieces about or get spoon-fed in some Western movie. Here's the heart of it! The isolation, desolation and loss so horrible that, like slavery, it is difficult for twenty-first century white man to comprehend that his fore bearers committed such an atrocity. The aftermath of this horror is brought to us in the person of a young survivor, Sasa, and her loss of all those dear to her. Left to her own devices in a culture where she is barely old enough to be considered an adult, we are shown her struggles, her fears and the dangers that still threaten her. Along comes the adorable and wise Wheezer who seems to be the savior of, not only a sad little girl, but the People as a whole. Wheezer and his friend from another life, Jackson, come to the rescue of her and her Cherokee tribe. Whether or not Jackson and brave little Wheezer can solve a murder, discover the cause of the tribe's starvation and want, as well as save themselves in the process is a story Miss Sutton spins with love and care. Don't miss this opportunity to peek inside the history this story lays before us. It is well worth the trip back in time.

This charm was to include the fact that my bracelet was a Christmas gift from my granddaughter and daughter. The candy cane motif on the glass bead was perfect without being too obvious and tacky. I love it and what it represents so perfectly.

The author has done a brilliant job on this one. Her mysteries are always wonderful, light, funny, entertaining--but this time she takes us to a darker place and does it VERY well!

Don't miss this new effort. She just loves to give you twists and turns!

READER BEWARE! COULD CAUSE WET PANTS!

I laughed all the way through this one. Enough of the plot has been given in other reviews/description, so let me just say that in the event you try this one--and you reallllly should--go potty first, then settle down for a quick, wonderful ride!

You won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Short Ghost Story With Humor, October 2, 2012

The following review is provided without remuneration from or reciprocation requested by the author.

Read this little novella in a single afternoon. Delighted with the writers' use of humor and creepiness all wrapped up with a fine ghosthunter's bow. This one has enough ghosts to satisfy, sarcasm enough to please the snarkiest amongst us and a great little dog named Leon, without out whom the tale would lose its ooohs and ahhhhs of the giggle variety. I'm definitely going to read more of the Brianna series. Reminded me of a Stephanie Plum who can see dead people! I think Leon may be Grandma Mazur in desguise.

Well worth reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars A LOVELY WAY TO SPEND A DAY, September 2, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Satin Pleasures (Kindle Edition)
I tucked this one away in my Kindle while, like one of the main characters, Dan McDonald's old self, let myself get pushed away by "life". Yesterday, I decided to follow his example by putting down everything so darned important--take a little time and smell some roses.

This definitely turned out to be a great read. It was sexy in a smart and entertaining way. A great little love story with enough push and pull between hero and heroine that you could almost "smell the ozone" building up with the tension.

Karen Docter definitely deserved to win the award she received for writing this one. It was very well done, very entertaining and a great way to break free of all those pesky things that "have" to be done. And, it was perfectly executed and definitely deserves a 5-star!
