4.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but some flaws., July 7, 2012
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
First off, there's only one wig ,so half the time she's bald. Also the ears are a pain. No one could put them on and when my dad finally did it looked ridiculous. The ears are very cheap looking as well. I like the tail but it keeps on falling off. The good things about them is that the wig looked alot better that I thought it would. It was very easy to put the body parts together. I LOVE the clothes. They are very cute. Both dolls have places for wings and tails. It finally comes with two torso's.I would like to give this three and a half stars for durability but it wouldn't let it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk, May 26, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Plays songs in ALPHABETICAL order not in the order they were recorded. Instruction manual PDF only shows the first 10 pages of the 38 that are supposed to be there. Pushing Eject Generates an Error Message.

I have been buying from Amazon for close to 15 years and this will be my FIRST RETURNED ITEM!

1.0 out of 5 stars A Moral Fairy Tale, August 6, 2011
I will admit to only reading almost one chapter. Frankly I couldn't take it any more. The book seems to be mainly comprised of a compilation of popular magazine articles. The connecting material is choppy at best.

Here is one example of the economic principles espoused. He responds to the criticism that the government is wasteful by stating private citizens can be wasteful too. He then uses an example of some extremely wealthy individuals throwing ridiculously extravagant birthday parties for their children.

I would certainly agree that many people spend lots of money on things that I would not. If it is their money then it is their right. How does this make government waste right?

The book represents the author's plan for a planned society of mediocrity based on HIS value system.

2.0 out of 5 stars So Painful, November 20, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is a lot like running a diamond mine. You need to sift through tons of junk to get even a tiny gem out. Yes there are a few small gems to be found here. However they are well buried.

If you want a mathematical treatment try Hull. Make sure you know your calculus and probability theory.

If you want something with substance try Augen. Have some experience first.

If you want a beginner's book....there are tons of them.

If you want to be tortured by writing style and incomplete treatment buy this one. Don't think it will appeal to any novices and few experienced traders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes some practice, November 20, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Essentially this book is about how to pick up on subtle clues that let you understand what makes someone else comfortable. Once you know how to do that, you can structure your message in such a way that breaks down barriers to communication.

Will the book allow you to suddenly gain a hundred new contacts or friends? No.
Will you be able to manipulate anyone to do things they don't want to do? No.

If you follow the book and practice the exercises will you have more success in social situations? Yes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn From Yourself, November 8, 2009
Every bookstore is filled with business books that tell you WHAT to do and HOW to do it. They often seem to give contradictory recommendations. This WHY book will resolve many of the apparent paradoxes and put you on your path.

The truth is most people are too busy doing to think about the most important question which is WHY they are doing. It is likely thinking through the examples in the book you will discover why you are working too hard for your results and more importantly be able to concentrate on achieving far more with far less effort.

Want to know why people love some companies and not others, why it usually takes 2 guys in a garage, why some companies soar and others crash? It's in there.

A note on what is not in the book. There are no 7 steps to accomplishing anything you want. What and how you do things are up to you, once you figure out the why. But again there are no shortages of other books and people who can help with that.

A final note, this is a business book, but the applications extend far beyond business.

2.0 out of 5 stars Huh?!?!, May 22, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found this book very difficult to follow. Possibly this is a language issue, my primary language is English. More likely this book is a tool used to sell the author's consulting services.

The book appears to be geared towards large business. Plenty of references to developing multiple teams etc. A number of complicated diagrams. Very few specific examples. Overly complicated.

I sincerely doubt many companies could really achieve 50% cost reductions.

2.0 out of 5 stars Almost Worthless Dumbed Down Material, May 22, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There is very little in this book that is not obvious.

Essentially the book is a list of don't. Don't make a product unless people are willing to buy it. Don't create a business without a real need. Products don't sell themselves, etc.

Unfortunately the author gives little guidance on how to determine if your idea fits into any of his don't. Essentially you are not given the tools you need. If you get it wrong he can say "Well you did not figure out what the customers wanted". True but useless.

There are a couple of things mentioned that may not be obvious to most readers. The impact of technical standards is one example.

I doubt this book will help many people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kick Start Your Brain, May 30, 2008
If you are looking for a step by step buy a house, rehab it, and get rich, please find another book. If you are looking for a dull textbook type presentation you should also pass.

If you are looking for clear explanations of concepts and illustrated with some small case studies to kick start your brain, then this might be just the thing to get you from dreaming to doing.

Although I knew almost all the concepts presented, this book made them much more concrete. I have already begun the process of actually doing instead of sitting on my butt thinking about doing!

Thank You!!

1.0 out of 5 stars This has to be the most overated book on amazon., August 23, 2006
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Here is the first few lines of the chapter beginning on page 162:

Play is tactile... Play is revealing...

Play is active... Play is cultural...

Play is experimental... Play is knowledge...

Play is imaginative... Play is curious...

In fact the entire chapter is 2 pages long consisting only of stuff like this. The rest of the book is slightly better.

If you like this kind of stuff then buy it. If you prefer something interesting to read and useful, I would recommend spending about the same amount of money on The Power of Simplicity.
