5.0 out of 5 stars Wholehearted Perplexedness, July 17, 2014

Through Filip's great, inquisitive efforts we learn of a multifaceted "wholehearted perplexedness" that is essential and missing in much of our daily modalities.

This "perplexedness" not only applies to his fine outline and thoughts on Budo and Aikido, which I am not a practitioner (yet?...perhaps I will be in the near future), but also to how we can perceive and inform our world/worldview, our daily reality, our breath, our movements/flexibility both mentally and physically, our resonance as individuals, our relation to others whether friend or foe, and our need for a collective mode of support through dojo, sangha, compassionate family, compassionate circles of friends, etc.

What you will also understand is a deeper way to think about and seek this collective support; which is essential to developing a more mindful mode of self (and non-self). It takes support such as this book to awaken a little further.

With Filip's words, at the very least if you haven't found a sangha or dojo, you have found a virtual "second member" to challenge, support, and start you on the path of wholeheartedly showing up just a little bit more, regardless of your specific practice(s).

It only takes two to start and Filip's words are there walking beside you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle 2 Replacement USB Cable, December 8, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Ordered this after my original Kindle 2 USB recharge/data cable's housing started to decay and disentigrate (note other posts - as this is a systemic problem for the Kindles - the only problem I have had with the Kindle 2 which is still a great product and has worked flawlessly!). USB cable worked perfectly out of the box. Charged back up and reading!

4.0 out of 5 stars A strong effort from Simple Minds, January 10, 2003

This review is from: Empires and Dance (Audio CD)
Too bad this is collecting dust in the previous reviewer's CD rack!
Much of SM's earlier grooves are being heavily sampled by new artists and there are some hidden gems in early SM work, like the driving "Changeling" on R to R.
While Sparkle in the Rain put SM on the European charts, Empires and Dance is a very good album of an advante garde group in 1980, developing its aesthetic around Soviet-era European, politics and club scene. Again this is 1980 and fairly early in SM's career. I agree that Life in a Day and R to R are efforts that may not be as listenable, but SM has begun to develop a new foundation of sound (both dance rhythms and lyrics) and exploration here that sets them up for full album listening success in Sons and Fascination / Sister Feelings Call to Sparkle in the Rain and so on.
I would consider Empires and Dance a Good staring point for a SM
collection because of the bass, sythesizer and drum work, as the Celebration CD gives a good sampler of the efforts pre- and during Empires.
