5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Hannah that was fun!, July 1, 2014

What a glorious romp! You know those episodes of SG-1 that you watch over and over because they were just plain fun? This is one of those episodes. Yes, the characters are spot-on. Yes, the plot has more twists and turns than Jack O'Neill eating a bowl of spaghetti in free fall. But most of all, it's just plain fun.

Vala Mal Doran is a hard character to write because she's clever. Her dialogue has to be witty, and half the time she means the exact opposite of what she says. Geonn Cannon does her perfectly. I could hear Claudia Black's voice saying the lines, and sometimes I couldn't help just laughing out loud with delight.

But it's not all Vala. Sam, Daniel, and Jack shine too. Teal'c especially is well drawn, and his plot line with the free Jaffa is fleshed out admirably. The author also manages to explore some of the more interesting possibilities in this period after the defeat of Anubis -- what does a society look like that has suddenly lost its overlords? What happens in the power void? Coming at this question from both the perspectives of an SG team and a pair of thieves on the fringes of society, it's fascinating.

This one is definitely a keeper! I'll be eagerly awaiting more Stargate books by Geonn Cannon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Historical fantasy at its best, November 16, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I first read this book when it originally came out twenty five years ago and I loved it. I still do. Not many books stand up to rereading twenty five years later, but The Armor of Light is still wonderful. This is historical fantasy at its best! It's rich, nuanced, and the plot is intriguing. And this is the best Christopher Marlowe I've read in fiction, hands down!

1.0 out of 5 stars Illegal, November 13, 2013
This is copyright infringement. Fandemonium Books owns the license to produce Stargate tie-ins. Fanfic is great, but making money off a copyright you don't hold is illegal. This has been reported to the legal owners.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Essential Biography, September 5, 2013
This is the essential biography of Marshal Jean Lannes, one of Napoleon's leading marshals. Exceedingly well researched and entertainingly written, this book is a must-have for those who are interested not only in the campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars, but in the personalities behind battles.

Do not buy these books! They are unlicensed trash being sold as Stargate novels and are in no way official or affiliated with the franchise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Read, June 30, 2011
This was a really fun read -- I especially liked the hero who was not only hot but also adorable, the single father of a little boy rather than the more conventional rake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting the Fun Back in Stargate, April 13, 2011
Sunrise is simply enormous fun. If you miss the old-style SG-1, the banter, the adventure, the nifty new worlds to explore, and most of all the team, this is your book. It's well written, everyone is perfectly in character, and it reads like an undiscovered classic episode. This is my favorite of the SG-1 novels to date.
