5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for getting artisan looking loaves, August 9, 2013

These were a tiny bit smaller than I expected, but are just right for baking two country loaves from the Tartine book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool in the kitchen!, August 9, 2013

I use these for pulling pin bones from salmon...and grabbing maraschino cherries out of the jar for my Manhattans! They work perfectly for retrieving all kinds of things in jars and don't make holes like a fork would.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh approach for organizing recipes, May 21, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I initially borrowed a digital copy of this book from the library and found I had bookmarked at least 12 recipes. My criteria for keeping a cookbook has always been three good recipes, so this one seemed to have great potential. I particularly liked the organization by month, based on what is available in local farmer's markets (at least on the east coast.) When I saw it on sale in the kindle store, I immediately purchased it. Clark's style of cooking is very relaxed and she gives multiple variations to each recipe so that you needn't worry about not having a particular ingredient. A good basic for weeknight meals, with clear and simple instructions and amusing head notes, this is not an exhaustive survey, but a well curated collection of achievable meals that are tasty and reasonable healthy. Enough to keep a foodie interested but not scary to a novice, I highly recommend this book in either digital or old fashioned paper format. (The digital format has a few extras which are nice...)

4.0 out of 5 stars All cotton comfort, October 29, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought a Lazy One nightshirt over the summer from a gift shop up north and really liked the quality of the cotton and the silhouette (not to mention the amusing graphic) so I looked them up online and found this one on sale. Same nice cotton but different styling which is not quite as attractive, but still a very nice sleep shirt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, easy digital scale, January 18, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been baking bread for some time now and finally decided I needed a digital scale for more accuracy. This scale has a very simple two button approach - easy to tare and easy to change from grams to ounces. While some reviewers have had trouble reading the display depending on how wide the bowl being used is, I find it easy enough to read with most of my bowls/containers. It is very lightweight and might be mistaken for a toy, but this appears to be a really good tool at a great price. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read!, April 13, 2010
I flat out loved this book. Perhaps it is a little gimmicky, but the author completely suspended my disbelief and I entered a world I'd like to live in...one in which dogs can believe that humans might have evolved from them as opposed to apes. Worth the time and money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not your Grandma's Slow Cooker Cookbook, February 19, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a quirky crockpot cookbook. All about slow food -- slow cooking and lots of time required for prep. Many of the recipes would fare as well cooked conventionally. If you are looking for a crockpot recipe book that saves you a lot of time, this is not it. That said, the recipes are generally inventive and interesting, and there are some smaller volume ones - nice if you cook for just one or two people. A solid addition to the slow cooker collection, but by no means a starter book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great slipper for a great price!, February 19, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As a confirmed Uggs lover I was very interested in these sheepskin slippers at 80% less than the cost of Uggs. They did not disappoint! They are cozy, look nice and thus far are holding up well. They start out snug until they conform to your foot. Having a rubberized sole is nice for quick runs out of the house. Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tedious, January 7, 2010
I was looking forward to this book as I am an occasional customer at the butcher shop Julie apprenticed with, and indeed I found the stories about the shop very entertaining. Unfortunately, there just weren't enough of those. The bulk of the book is incredibly tedious. This was like reading a transcript of a mostly unproductive therapy session. She made herself a very unsympathetic character, which wouldn't be an issue if there was a point to be made but we keep reading the same thing over and over again. Frankly, her personal travails are just not that interesting. It is a supremely self-indulgent piece of mediocre prose. With so many books and so little time, this one can safely be taken off your list!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Pan, August 2, 2006
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a true multi-purpose pan. Some of the reviews complain of food sticking - if you read the directions which came with the pan and heat the pan first before adding oil and foods, and wait a sufficient amount of time before turning the foods, they don't really stick. And clean-up isn't a trial at all. It is much lighter than cast iron, but cooks as well. Great for browning meats and poultry, braises, flat breads...you name it. My new favorite pan.
