Hmm, this tracker has an overall Amazon rating of just above 2 stars at the time of this writing.
However, PC Magazine, whose ratings are well known and highly respected, just came out with a list of top ten activity trackers, and the Basis Peak is rated NUMBER 1 with a 4.3 star rating (approximately, based on the 5 stars graphic).

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS! Not only does it NOT taste like macadamia nuts, it pretty much has no taste at all. Very bland. I just wasted $62.43 on this, and now I'll be drinking terrible coffee for the next two months! (What a horrible, horrible fate, lol.)

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the Best Home Router on the Market! (I Had to Learn the Hard Way), April 11, 2014
Blazing speed, great range, reasonably easy firmware setup, and actually does everything it should! I say this with the confidence that comes from first buying a competing model (an ASUS RT-AC68U) that had the following two problems:

1) If you wish to secure your network to specific devices to prevent outsiders from hacking in, the procedure is to enter the MAC address for each approved device. The ASUS firmware will handle up to 64 MAC entries, but it accepted 13 of my 14 devices and rejected the perfectly valid MAC address of my cell phone. Therefore, I had to abort this capability because my phone would be locked out of the network.

2) My primary reasons for buying the ASUS were its advertised ability to connect a USB drive in order to read/write files via WiFi, and the fact its footprint was smaller than the Nighthawk. I learned the hard way, however, that the firmware couldn't support File Transfer Protocol (FTP), a basic networking standard. As a result, it isn't possible to write files to it remotely.

I replaced the ASUS with a NETGEAR Nighthawk (which does support FTP). It handles WiFi based read/write tasks with aplomb, making it a cinch to back up all our computers. Woohoo!

Also, the Nighthawk firmware is better designed, so it's faster to get your network up and working with all the features/options you want. As a bonus, it's every bit as fast (possibly faster overall) than the ASUS, plus it has a lower price and runs cooler! Quadruple Woohoo!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Fast Hardware, But Weak Firmware!, April 11, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I wasted a week with ASUS Technical Support that included testing a beta version of the firmware in an effort to fix the following two problems, both of which haven't been resolved as of the date of this review.

1) If you want to limit your network to specific devices to prevent outsiders from hacking in, the procedure is to enter the MAC Address for each approved device. The firmware will handle up to 64 MAC entries, however it accepted 13 of my 14 devices and rejected the perfectly valid MAC address of my cell phone, so I couldn't implement MAC security because my phone would be locked out.

2) A primary reason I bought this router was its stated ability to connect a USB hard drive to it and wirelessly read/write files on it. I learned, however, that it doesn't support File Transfer Protocol (FTP), a basic network standard. As a result, files cannot be transferred to it over WiFi, which disqualified it for my needs. I replaced it with a NETGEAR Nighthawk R7000 (which does support FTP). We now can backup all our computers files via WiFi. Woohoo! Also, the Nighthawk firmware is better designed, making it possible to quickly implement all the features you want, it's just as fast (possibly faster overall) than the ASUS model, and it operates at a cooler temperature. Triple Woohoo!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Device, but Speed Claims HIGHLY Overstated!, March 24, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
While this is a perfectly viable (although bulky) USB device, it does not perform as advertised. That said, we should keep in mind all manufacturers of internet hardware tend to overstate the speed of their products with hypothetical "up to" limits that cannot be achieved in real life.

I ran nine comparison tests, but the results were basically the same as my existing setup. Testing was done on both bands (2.4 & 5 Ghz) on one Win-7 64-bit and two Win-XT 32-bit computers. To ensure the results were fair and accurate, I would test the new device with its driver enabled and the original disabled, then immediately reverse the process to test the original hardware with its driver enabled and the new one disabled. This process was performed 3 times on each machine. The best result for my 100/10 cable service was 117 mbps downstream and 15 mbps upstream (at 5 Ghz), but that was with no competing devices on our home WiFi network. The norm is usually around 75 and 10 when the entire family is doing their thing (which is SCREAMINGLY FAST compared to our old 20/1 setup).

The performance of this device is perfectly acceptable, but we all should keep in mind that there is no "magic" when it comes to internet speed. If speed is a priority, just get the fastest internet service, modem, and dual-band router possible, then test and tweak the router settings to obtain maximum throughput. Note: "Ookla Speedtest" is, in my opinion, the standard for accurate testing -- just search for it on the web.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5-Star Hardware, Horribly Buggy Software Loader (but read on for a fix), September 19, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There is no beating the technology (it's rated the #1 Android tablet and is second only to the Apple iPad). However, there is a software problem that will drive you nuts, BUT IT'S EASY TO FIX. The app launcher keeps ending abnormally with a message of "Launcher has stopped", which causes your Home screen to be reset to its original state, so all of the folders and apps you placed on it are gone!

I was pulling my hair out over this for 3 days. I'd redo my 60+ apps in multiple folders on the Home screen, but they eventually would be replaced by the factory default screen. After investigating the problem, I discovered the cause was that the launcher app that came with the device wasn't ready for Android 4.3. The solution is to replace it by going to Google Play and installing a new launcher of your choice (which I recommend even if your default launcher has been fixed). I chose "Nova Launcher Free" because it was rated best in web articles that compare launcher apps. I quickly concluded it is a fantastic improvement over the original launcher! For example, there is no need to "press and drag" an unwanted app icon to the trash bin. Instead, just press the icon then select from the popup menu options of "Edit", "Remove", "App Info", or "Uninstall". This alone is a time saver, and the additional new options are very convenient.

I also replaced the original Google Keyboard with the free "Hacker's Keyboard" because it's like a standard computer keyboard in landscape mode (with letters, numbers, special characters, and navigation arrows). This is very, very nice for a long time user of full size keyboards trying to transition to smaller dimensions.

Now it's an absolute pleasure to use this exquisite tablet! The software headaches are gone!

September 21, 2013 Update:
Just fixed a Netflix app problem (whereby it could not open under Android 4.3) by applying the latest Android fix. Updates are available on this tablet in "Settings - About Tablet - System updates".

1.0 out of 5 stars Cannot Install Due to Programming Bug, March 31, 2013
This review is from: Pure 3.0 - 3 User (CD-ROM)
I downloaded the Trial and attempted to install it. Everything was fine until the registration screen came up. It had two radio buttons, one to enter a registration code and a second to specify a Trial. I selected the trial option, but then noticed there was no way to submit the choice because no buttons were available at the bottom of the screen. Unbelievable....

I went to Kaspersky's website and was able to determine the programming staff was aware of the problem and were attempting to fix it. The problem was due to the fact the form's buttons could not be displayed on high resolution screens. As a former programmer, I was absolutely flabbergasted because ensuring all form controls are visible at all resolutions is a programming basic (kindergarten level).

Hey, Kaspersky, this is a 15-minute fix, why can't your staff handle it? Personally, I would NEVER buy ANYTHING from a software company that exhibits such outright INCOMPETENCE!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Enough Memory, Otherwise Very Nice, September 12, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When playing the blu-ray version of "Avatar", a long message is displayed, the gist of which is that it doesn't have enough storage to play the movie properly and needs an external device with 2 megabytes of free space. It provides the option to continue or cancel the movie, but who wants to "continue" a long movie knowing it could freeze at any time? Inserting a thumb drive into the USB port and restarting the movie remedies the problem.

As a computer guy, it is disturbing to learn a blu-ray player cannot properly handle blu-ray movies. This is doubly ridiculous considering that storage is dirt cheap these days. Why in the world would LG try to get by with less than what is required? If not for this short-sightedness , the device would be 5 stars. Wake up, LG!

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Poor Quality - Plastic Wheels Break, September 11, 2012
This ottoman is tiny and to describe its quality as "horrible" would likely be interpreted as a complement by the shoddy manufacturer. Extra seating is one of it's advertised features, but the first time I rested my 170 lbs on it, a wheel broke, sending me flying backwards onto the floor. I examined it and saw the wheel connection is thin plastic with no metal reinforcement.

Beware of "Made in China" furniture.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless for Dust Mites, April 23, 2012
Sprayed mattress and surrounding areas daily, as recommended by the product. Absolutely no effect. Hate to be a "green" buster, but I've never found a green substitute for insecticides that kills anything. Gotta think the "spray daily" instructions are manufacturer speak for "use it quickly and keep buying more, forever".
