The 3rd book of this great series finds Mayor Maggie Martin in big financial problems facing the City of Westbury. 5.0 out of 5 stars Maggie continues to enjoy Rosemount while becoming the new mayor, July 4, 2016

What started as Maggie Martin’s move to Rosemount as a quiet peaceful new life, quickly turned to Maggie being put on the ballot to replace the Mayor who embezzled from the city employees? Maggie is thrown into the town’s financial crisis, must find a way to pick up the pieces and hopefully not have layoffs.

Will the senior center where a suspicious death occurred have to be closed? Are some of the town councilmen still dipping into the employee pensions? Frank Haynes, a wealthy businessman and town councilman has a reason that he feels Rosemount should have been his. His new assistant from Scottsdale adds more to the storyline when you realize she was Maggie’s husband Paul’s mistress and mother of a child from the relationship.

Maggie continues her romance with Dr. John the town Vet, and when her daughter comes to visit she meets a love interest a new doctor in town.

A decision to look at some things in the attic brings another storyline. Will we finally find an answer to what is going on in the town? Can’t wait for book 3

5.0 out of 5 stars After deceit does a move give you a new life?, July 4, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you would like a series that grabs a hold of you and pulls you into the well written characters, this series is for you.

Maggie Martin, a forensic accountant, a recent widow just learned her husband Paul President of Windsor College had secrets. The first was he was embezzling from the University. After that shock, Maggie discovered Paul had a secret family and oh yes he inherited an estate Rosemont in the town of Westbury. Paul had left the house to Maggie but never told her about it.

After a trip to see “the secret family” Maggie’s next trip is to Westbury to put the Rosemont house up for immediate sale. Ms. Hinske describes the charm of Rosemount so the reader feels they are going thru the home themselves.

Maggie only intended to find a realtor and put the house up for sale. The charm pulls her in and throwing caution to the wind, Maggie packs up and moves across the country from California to Westbury looking for a fresh start.

Her son and daughter greatly object to Maggie’s move and try everything to stop this craziness. No sooner than moved in when Maggie encounters political corruption, fraud, embezzlement and arson.

I love that Maggie is a mature woman, with a career and mother of two, a son and daughter who greatly object to her sudden move. Maggie moves into the house only to learn that political corruption, fraud, embezzlement and arson are all a part of the city of Westbury. The friendly vet John and Maggie soon become friends, which leads to romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lexy and Grandmas on the job of solving the next mystery, July 3, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Book 12 finished in 2 days because life sometimes gets in the way.

Lexy Baker and her Grandmother Nan and the “ladies” are over at Lexy’s house one afternoon when Ina wants to demonstrate how the drone she “borrowed” from her Grandson Jason works. Shoving it out the window and not being very good at the control, the drone flies over to a house where Lexy will be catering a brunch in a few days.

Next door to that house is the house of recluse author Olive Pendleton. Lexy and the ladies observe someone trying to get a Pekeapoo off the roof and is hit with a baseball bat falling 3 stories to her death.

A murder, who better to ask than Lexy’s husband Jack a homicide detective. However as much as Jack tries to find out there has been no murder, no body and Jack can’t begin any investigation.

So the toting grandmas begin to search for the murder, they encounter a pack of Pekeapoos, nosey neighbors, a husband that you are sure is the murderer and of course a fan club.

You will find yourself laughing out loud, and holding your breath, but above all Leighann Dobbs has captured you and I promise leaves you wanting more of Lexy and the Grandmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Story but must be started with book 1, July 3, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Cynthia Hickey has captured the tone and depth of the story with her writing. The story can be graphic and dark at time and nothing appears to be able to stop Draco from the evil that he possesses.

In the final installment of this series, plan on doing nothing, you don’t want to the series to end but you want to know how Cassidy Monroe, who has been kidnapped by Draco, The Dragon will escape and will Colin MacKenzie, the Scottish cop and partner will come out alive.

While it says final installment it might be nice if Cassidy and Colin could come back in another story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lin+Viv= mystery, July 3, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Once again Lin Coffin and her cousin Viv seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. All Viv wanted to do was take a weaving class on the craft of Nantucket lightship baskets. Lin told her cousin she would visit the cultural museum exhibition during her class.

Lin and island historian Anton Wilson entered as the staff discovered the valuable lightship basket missing. The mystery of how it was stolen starts.

If you like a good mystery, some humor, and an occasional ghost, this is the series for you. J. A. Whiting writes with a nice flow of keeping the characters moving, the story line easy to follow with some off shots, of Lin and her boyfriend, and Lin and Leonard her business partner in the landscaping business. I saw a previous review that said you don’t have to read the series in order, that is true but you will miss a lot of how the relationships of the characters have meshed.

I will say without spoiling the ending, book 5 can’t come fast enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ghosts, telephones and mayhem all is a day of the B&B, June 23, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It’s best to read the series in order, but if not possible you can pretty much pick up what has happened before. The story is great and began with Darcy Sweet and her husband police officer Jon Tinker honeymooning at the Inn.

Dell Powers and Rosie own a bed and breakfast in a small town in Australia. Usually the town is very quiet but somehow things seem to occur at the B&B that take strength and patience on both Dell and Rosie’s part.

Rosie is always having something blow up so when she calls Dell and says “you have to come back to Inn right now” Dell doesn’t know what to expect. “The chimney’s falling down” had Dell rushing back. Then the skeleton found inside the causes the Inn to be closed.

The story line is funny at times and the “telephone calls” when no one is there or a voice of someone who has died adds to the story. The best part is the “wall” that a ghost will not allow pictures to be hung on.

5.0 out of 5 stars All I want to do is dig in the dirt, June 23, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When Shelby Jenkins was hired she was handed by Alice the Director of Shady Acres a “stack” of information papers. Shelby has been so busy she never really finished reading the papers and many references are mentioned in the story, in a humorous way at the beginning of the story. Poor Shelby Jenkins all she wants to do is tend to her flowers and be the activities director at the Shady Acres retirement community. Why do dead bodies keep getting in the way?

So much to Shelby’s surprise when following a path that she was not aware of is an overgrown maze. Not only does Shelby want to clean up the maze it gives her a wonderful idea for an activity. However the dead body of the receptionist Theresa is putting the hold on that activity. Shelby insists and tells everyone she will not be investigating Theresa death. However, no one will let her forget that she should do this.

Enter the next story line when Alice hired Lauren (Heath’s ex-girlfriend) to decorate all the cabins. The problem is Lauren cheated on Heath but now wants him back. While Shelby says she is not jealous, there are tell-tale signs that she is having difficulty with that.

Shelby’s Mom decides to accept the vacant receptionist position, Grandma Ida is enjoying teasing her daughter and encouraging Shelby to pursue Heath and the mystery of Theresa’s death.

Shelby follows the path to nowhere, finding tunnels, and gazebo and boat house. You’ll love this series, Shelby is clumsy, funny, and comical and it’s just a great story line. Can’t wait for book 3.
