I have consulted several travel guides in this format, both for the UK and elsewhere. This one is above average.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Collection of Road Trips in the Mid-Atlantic States, June 23, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
"Lonely Planet New York & the Mid-Atlantic's Best Trips" is a guide to traveling by car in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States, from Virginia to New York. The book describes 27 road trips, organized into 4 sections, by state: 1. New York, 2. Pennsylvania and New Jersey, 3. Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. and 4. Virginia and West Virginia. Each section has 7 trips, except Maryland, etc., which has 6. The duration of these trips when traveling by car range from 2 days to 7 days, with most being 3 - 5 days long.

Good:
- The road trips are genuinely interesting.
- The book avoids spending too much time on New York city and Washington D.C., which are well-covered elsewhere.
- Numerous sidebars, such as "Best Food", "If You Like... [Outdoor Activities / Family Fun / Natural Vistas / etc.]"
- General information on traveling in the region is provided.
- Weaving these trips into a longer journey (say, across the region) would be relative painless.

Bad:
- None to speak of.

I found it strange that the section on Virginia and West Virginia was labeled merely "Virginia" (and know a few West Virginians who would bristle at this). Half of the length of one of the trips is, indeed, in West Virginia. I also wonder why Amazon's image of the book cover indicates 30 trips, while the actual book covers only 27. Regardless of the truth behind those mysteries, I very much like this book. I was born in this region, and have lived in three of the states covered, yet I found much new information in this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Exploration of the Idea of "Place", June 11, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This book is an exploration of place beyond the idea of location. For instance, a recurring festival may seem to us as a single place, despite existing at varying geographic locations. Another concept covered in this book is places which defy conventional definitions, such as areas "between" the borders of countries. The author has collected a number of such concepts, and gives examples from around the world.

For anyone interested in "the last blank spot on the map", or its modern equivalent, this is a good book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, if Limited, Drawing Medium, June 11, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This product features 12 pieces of chalk, representing 8 colors: 2 each of blue, green, red and yellow, as well as 1 each of orange, brown, purple and white. The chalk comes in a re-useable covered plastic tray which should protect against damage if handled gently.

I found the colors fairly strong (though the green is a bit light). I experimented with this chalk on toned gray paper with reasonable results. I am accustomed to media which are either softer (like Cray Pas [ Sakura XEP25 25-Piece Cray-Pas Junior Artist Assorted Color Oil Pastel Set ]) or hard but more consistent than chalk (colored pencils). Blending with this chalk was possible but not easy.

Overall, I liked this chalk and will continue experimenting with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Re-Make Except..., May 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Walking In L.A. (MP3 Music)
This is an energetic, fun re-working of an 80s classic by the original artist, with one flaw. This new version features a much more electronic sound, which I like. Abruptly in the middle of the song, though, there is a rap section which sounds nothing like the rest of the song and simply doesn't fit. It's rather bizarre and I've actually considered editing the song for myself, to remove this part.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, Waterproof, May 1, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I own several flashlights from this line, both this model and others.

Good:
- Very durable: recessed lens, squat design, solid construction, rubber end caps ("Men's Health" put these through an Abusive Labs Test, and this one came through with flying colors).
- waterproof
- Bright light
- Standard batteries (as opposed to exotic lithium batteries, etc.)

Bad:
- None that I can think of. Freeing this product from the plastic zip ties in the packaging is a bit of a pain.

Bottom line: For reliable flashlights for heavy use or emergencies, these are a great choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Duck Tape, May 1, 2014

This is good quality duck tape, though, I can't vouch that its grip is stronger than that of other duck tapes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable, Great for Protecting Magazines and 8.5x11 Papers in a Book Bag, May 1, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This file is made of thick (but flexible) plastic and the clasp uses fairly strong elastic cord which fits over a button on the front of the file. This is perfect for protecting magazines or letter-size papers in a book bag. One of the two we own recently suffered a broken elastic band, but only after 6 months of very heavy use by a twelve-year-old who's not gentle with his school things.

Note that there is another version of this product (ASIN B0052S3DR2) which opens at the narrow end. That version has removable inserts for organizing, while the dividers in this product are not removable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Attractive Carafe, Mostly Good Performance, April 26, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is an attractive carafe with a mostly good mix of qualities:

Good:

- Keeps beverages hot for hours: Overnight, they were still warm.
- Attractive styling

Bad:

- Unlike the rest of the carafe, which is covered in silicone, the bottom is hard plastic which slides a little too easily.
- Despite its size, capacity is 52 oz.- about 6 mugs or 8 coffee cups worth

5.0 out of 5 stars More Historical than Culinary, but an Interesting Read, March 20, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is more of an anecdotal history book than it is a cookbook. While there are period recipes, there are 52 of them in 224 pages. I found the context the book provided fascinating.
