2.0 out of 5 stars When you choose price over quality, January 2, 2014

If you need something to secure your flash to a light stand, and also to mount an umbrella, and you need it to last for more than one photo shoot, it may be better to go for another brand.

This one doesn't have the smoothest of actions, and the hard plastic and metal construction doesn't work that well. On the very first set-up it started falling apart, causing my SB-900 to take a nasty tumble. There's a small spring bouncing around somewhere on the floor, and I have no idea where it came from.

Better to spend more money than be flash foolish.

Cons:

1. Buttons and directional pad don't feel like good quality
2. Uncomfortable L1 and R1 buttons
3. Needs adapter to work wirelessly
4. Takes a while to get used to

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing fishy here, November 17, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an awesome little toy for your iPhone 5, but obviously with limitations - you can't expect Carl Zeiss technology for this price after all.

You get a fisheye lens, a wide angle lens and a macro lens in a device the width of your phone. To access the macro lens you need to unscrew the wide angle lens. It comes with lens caps and a drawstring carrying case.

Limitations include:
1. You can't have a protective screen on your phone as the fit is THAT snug
2. No flash when using this attachment
3. You need to take it off when calls come in
4. You need a very steady hand to get crisp macro images, and you need to be thiscloseupto your subject
5. The lens caps have a mind of their own and disappear into thin air.

Otherwise, it's portable and quick to attach, and comes in very handy when taking architectural photos or landscapes to send to friends or post online. It's also pretty good with the obligatory photos of what you're having for lunch or dinner. Gimmicky gadget - yes, but also pretty cool.

Children's Books: No No Shower (Recommended book for children 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Good clean fun, November 17, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a full-colour illustrated children's story about a cygnet (young swan) who definitely wasn't a prince about hygiene and cleanliness. When it reached the point where his only playmate lived in a sty, his distraught parents sought out professional help, and of course received a response in rhyme, requiring interpretation.

Definitely fun to read out loud, this story provides encouragement for parents faced with sticky situations at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heroes among us, November 17, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a full colour illustrated children's story, a part of a series about a young goat named Billy and his adventures. In this episode, he gets the opportunity to spend a day visiting a fire station.

Unlike the other stories in the series, he doesn't get into any mischief this time, but finds his fear factor. Fortunately for him there's a hero around to provide back-up and provide the day's lesson without any monkeying or clowning around.

The best in the series so far. Easy fun reading with a moral attached.

4.0 out of 5 stars Working with kids, November 17, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a full colour illustrated children's story, a part of a series about a young goat named Billy and his adventures. In this episode, he gets the opportunity to spend a day "helping" his father, who is an electrician.

Naturally, as is often the case with young kids (especially if they really are goats), enthusiasm gets the better of common sense and things don't quite go as planned.

It's not a shocking conclusion that the kid gets his wires crossed, and of course a life lesson follows, leading to an illuminating ending.

Easy fun reading with a moral attached, but it should be noted that there are a couple of safety infractions evident in the illustrations, such as riding in the back of a pick-up and not wearing safety gear on a work site.

4.0 out of 5 stars Baking with kids, November 17, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a nicely illustrated children's story about a young goat named Billy who gets the opportunity to spend a day "helping" at a bakery.

Naturally, as is often the case with young kids (especially if they really are goats), enthusiasm gets the better of common sense and things don't quite go as planned.

It behooves the baker therefore not to let his young helper get a rise out of him, and of course a life lesson follows leading to a sweet ending.

Easy fun reading with a moral attached.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lost in Translation, November 16, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Unfortunately, although this book has a workable concept and beautiful colour illustrations, it needs to be completely reworked for proper English grammar, spelling and sentence construction before it can be recommended for young readers.

Needs a trip to the editors and a fresh set of sheets for next Halloween.

3.0 out of 5 stars Erotica in brief, November 16, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Arrangement 1 (Kindle Edition)
This is a very short story, the first of a series of chapter books, which seems to be based on a woman living in the shadow of her husband, a successful lawyer. At the beginning, she is thoroughly intimidated by him, and you'll want to slap some sense into her for being such a wishy-washy wuss.

As the story progresses, another personality begins to emerge, albeit not for the better, as her husband gets promoted to a position of power in his firm and she gets an introduction to the world of the rich, powerful and manipulative.

The storyline doesn't quite ring true, at least not in this installment, and some editing would have made for better reading. The erotica, however, is much better than the actual plot.

Here's hoping for a change for the better as the series progresses.

3.0 out of 5 stars Challenging, but needs tweaking, November 16, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Figure O'Speech (App)
This is a brain-teasing game that requires you to look at drawings, words, numbers and letters and decipher them according to their placement, size and arrangement (among other things) to come up with phrases, names, proverbs, movies, songs and more.

While fairly addictive, each level has 60 puzzles, and you need to solve 50 of them before you can move on. Each puzzle has three hints, but you are limited to 19 hints, with a new hint popping up every 300 seconds or after five guesses.

My problems with this game: (Using a Kindle Fire)

1. The font used is hard to read, and doesn't fit properly in the available word window. Too many letters look the same leading to far too many uncorrected and unintentional typos.

2. The accepted solutions are inconsistent, with some answers being judged incorrect for capital letters and lack of punctuation, while others getting the nod while having just one correct key word. This is annoying.

3. You can't jump to a category of your choice, but have to go through them in the given order, getting at least 50 correct in each category. (I am on level 6, but would have preferred to choose the category myself)

4. The music has to go

Overall a reasonably entertaining brain game, but could use some improvement.

Amanda Richards, November 16, 2013

Dec 27 - Finished the game. Comments above still stand.
When you finish the last category you get a notification that you've unlocked another level, but there isn't another.

A little tweaking would make this a much better game
