5.0 out of 5 stars Insanely Sharp, Stupidly amazing, April 15, 2013
I did a ton of research before i bought this lens. It is not cheap and wanted to make sure that it would serve my needs. It is a massive lens, the hood on it also makes it a formidable weapon and scares little children. It comes in the Canon suitcase which is quite sturdy...a much needed accessory. I took this on a safari to 4 countries in Africa and that came in very handy. It has 2 handles and is just the right size to fit in on small planes. In terms of the lens quality it is quite simply brilliant. It is so sharp that when i was trying to photograph a lion that was in the tall grass i struggled as it would be focusing on the blades of grass and then the lion. I had to switch to manual zoom. It is super fast and the quality of the glass is probably the best in the Canon lineup. I also bought the 1.4ExIII which (although i wont do a review on this here) was a brilliant addition to the larger lenses. Canon has really stepped it on the Extenders (i had the 1.4ExII and the difference is very visible). I also have the 300 2.8L and the extra reach is very welcomed. It is a little heavy, even though it is a great deal lighter than the last version, so using a bean bag was massively welcomed. It can be handheld but you will get tired.

I would highly recommend this lens to anyone. Buy it....it is a lot but you will get awesome images and will have it for a long time. Simply flawless!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply the Sharpest Lens..., November 9, 2009
Oh my goodness...what a lens! This is such an awesome lens. I wrote a review for the 35mm and said that it was the sharpest lens Canon made but oh god was i wrong. This lens is so darn sharp at all stops. It focuses so quickly and takes the most insane photos. It is a little heavy and you will draw a few looks carrying it around. I went to Yellowstone with this attached to my 5D Markii that already had a grip and people were literally staring at me and pointing. It felt a bit strange. Anyway the quality of the build is the best you can get. It is expensive but really worth the price. You will not regret it at all. It works great with the extender 1.4x. To see some of my shots with it go to my site:

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Lens, March 12, 2009
This lens is stupidly sharp. I believe that this is probably the sharpest lens that Canon does. I have not tried the 300mm or the 200mm lenses. Some people I have spoken to believe that the 135mm is the sharpest but I am not too sure. You have to remember that all of the lenses mentioned are ridiculously sharp at all stops. The 35mm lens however is such a joy to shoot with. It work great as a landscape lens as well as a great portrait lens (for a true portrait lens get the 85mm - that is also fantastic). It is fairly light to carry around and you simply cannot go wrong with this. You will not regret buying this lens. Every professional photographer has this in their arsenal and it works beautifully with the Canon 5D MarkII. Buy this lens....

5.0 out of 5 stars Why you should buy this lens!, October 25, 2006
First of all it took me a few months to decide on what lens to buy because I did so much research. My choices were between Canon 70-200L 4, 70-200L 2.8 and the 70-200L 2.8IS. After much investigation I opted not to buy the 4.0 because I knew that I would be shooting in dim lights and needed the 2.8. So to save money I bought the 2.8 NON IS. The lens is great and I travelled to Utah with it. All was great until I tried to shoot a deer at full zoom. Every one came out blurry and could not use. Apart from that it is a fantastic lens. As a result I decided to fork out for the 2.8 IS lens and it is amaizing. It has the same optics as the non IS but handheld the IS really works great. Like on some of the reviews it does not make every shot in focus but certainly most of them and the picture quality is amaizing. Fast focus, great colours. Fantastic. If you can afford it buy it and the IS is def worth it because the lens is heavy and you do shake a bit, which is noticeable at full or close to full zoom. Hope this helps.
