5.0 out of 5 stars Almost like home-made!, March 14, 2014

I must preface this by saying I am 100% Greek-American. Avgolemomo soup is a staple in a Greek house.
When you aren't feeling well, or just want that wonderful taste of this soup in a hurry - even the quick way of broth, bouillon cubes, rice and lemon juice seem too much trouble--
With this, you open the can, heat and enjoy!!!!
I was skeptical, but was amazingly pleased and surprised how good this soup is!
I put a drop of lemon in it only because I put extra lemon on everything, but on its own is wonderful.
The little chicken pieces are better than Campbell's soup--with Campbell's I usually fish them out. But with the Greek soup they taste just right.
Will I reorder? You bet!
Greek Chicken Soup in minutes???? Oh yeah!
If you like Greek soup, you will not be disappointed--I've grown up on it and the only difference, they use orzo and I use rice. Not as thick, but the taste and comfort factors are great!

Natchez Burning: A Novel (Penn Cage)
Natchez Burning: A Novel (Penn Cage)
by Greg Iles
Edition: Hardcover
Price: $17.70

5.0 out of 5 stars Greg Iles is back!, January 26, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I've been a big fan of Greg Iles from the start. I guess you can say we have grown up together...
I was thrilled the Mr. Iles returned to writing after his horrid accident. And what a book to start with!

Natchez Burning's story starts with the first brilliant book about the Cages, The Quiet Game. There we meet Penn Cage, a widower with a daughter coming home to Natchez Mississippi to be near family and friends. He is a former prosecutor in Texas turned successful author, keeping his legal creds.

Now Penn is the Mayor of Natchez, and while all the Penn Cage books can give the backstory of Natchez Burning, it is riveting and an ambitious book. At almost 800 pgs, don't expect to read it in a few days. Even I, took time to read 50-100 pages a day to savor the plot and actions.

Apparently in March a novella will come out giving the segway to Natchez Burning, but you can assume as you read the book what has happened.

Dr, Tom Cage, Penn's father and idol and a legend in Natchez for his treatment of all races equally, is accused of a terrible crime. But he won't explain any of his troubles to Penn, who is trying to help him, nor to any of the people- a fact enjoyed by those who want to do ill to the Cage family.

It seems you may not know everything about your parents, and if you did, would it change your view of them?

As usual, Mr. Iles deals with race relations, the KKK, another like organization that wreaked havoc to Blacks and Minorities.

I have always thought Mr. Iles as being our generation's Faulkner. I still believe it. His writing is still as powerful and lyrical as it has ever been.

This is not a quick read, and that may deter some folks from reading it. It is also part one of a trilogy, so you know there will not be quick resolution coming.

But the beauty of Mr. Iles' words entice you and bring you into the atmosphere of Natchez of the past and present.

Love knows no color and humanity and compassion is also colorblind. Justice is sometimes teeth grindingly slow. All this is part of Natchez Burning.

For those not familiar with Mr. Iles' writing, especially of the Cage family, perhaps reading previous novels to get you loving and admiring them and understand the atmosphere of Natchez would help. But Natchez can also be a stand alone book, although some references may be missed.

But he puts enough backstory to get you up to speed. This is not a pretty book. It speaks of hate, vengeance, and corruption. It also speaks of love, family unity, the fight for Justice,

I read some parts and I was so moved it blew me away! But Greg Iles' words have that effect on me. He is brilliant.

Don't know about some folks new to the Penn Cage book will take to it, and the length may be daunting, but it is worth the read.

The only negative for me is I and all his fans have to wait for Natchez Burning part 2!!!

Welcome back, Mr. Iles! A lot of us have been sending healing vibes and are delighting in your marvelous words.

To me, an amazing and important work not only of its plot, but the history which to some of us who cannot understand some people's hate actually occurred, and sadly, still does.

Multi purpose, you can kill two birds with one stone by plugging this baby up and let the Remington Pearl not only dry, but flatten or uncurl your hair.
It is easy to handle, of course using with caution as the product is super hot.
It helps give the sleek look some girls with curls want from time to time, or for work. Easy, and wonderful.

The Blacklist Season 1 [HD]
The Blacklist Season 1 [HD]
Price: $39.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart innovative exciting show, November 13, 2013
"Red" Reddington is a Master Criminal. Don't ever forget that. He's made the deal of his life for his freedom to do his thing while giving the Feds people from The Blacklist. He does stipulate that a young agent, Lizzie, be his liaison.
Who is he to her???

Red is not an angel. He kills, steals, as well as helping catch the bad guys. Seeing his bad deeds takes your breath away and you can't wait for more.

James Spader is and has been one of my favorite actors since Stargate. Then the legal shows, ending with Boston Legal. He is sexy and a fabulous actor.

In this series they have shaved off most of his hair--thinning or just character?--but Spader speaks and there is no other person in the world speaking. His voice, that sexy voice, his mastering his multisided character are one of the most amazing acting jobs I have seen on a TV series.
I truly hope this series runs for a long time.
Have already pre- ordered the DVD's!
To see every week the same Red be joking and laughing with his dear friend before smothering him with a pillow takes your breath away that he gets away with everything most of to time.
You cannot wait for the next episode to see what will happen next, and boy, that's exciting viewing!!
Love James Spader in any role!!! Okay have had a crush on him--but he's the actors' actor.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great overview iof all things acting/living/success, November 12, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Molly Cheek and Debbie Zipp, both seasoned actresses, have written one heckuva book for aspiring actors; and sound advice for everyone who wants to be successful in whatever they do.
They have members in show business write experiences and pointers to help those who want to be successful in their passions.
And passion is the name of the game, along with talent, tenacity, flexibility and most importantly, the willingness to put egos aside and learn the realities of "show business".

Take ego out of the equation--insert work ethic and hints to follow your dream. and you gave a dightfully composed book that will actually be used!!!

To be on the boards, TV, or in the movies, you have to toss aside you are an ACTOR, but an actor ready to keep honing your craft and helpful advice what to do while following your dreams.
You study--not only acting; but the arts, music, painting, directing, classes to enlarge your world while waiting to say, "I'm ready for my closeup, Mr. DeMille."

i think of Nia Vardalos, who put a tiny ad in the paper about her one woman show about growing up Greek, only to have fellow Greek Rita Wilson, wife of Tom Hanks, go to see Vardalos' work. The result? My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

While waiting for your big break, you do as much as you can to learn the art of acting, and the ladies along with contributors tell their experiences from classes, auditions, commercials, agents, and their words are sound and put you in their shoes.

Ego goes out, confidence enters. The ability to be open for all opportunities is amazing. A lot of work and stumbles as well as triumphs are covered and their words are sound as they have been there, done that.

You are never too young or too old to learn and to adapt and be who you wish. May not to be famous actors like James Spader or Wilbur Fitzgerald, but the queen or king of voiceovers and commercials, or to learn to follow your instincts and go from there.

This is a Kindle book all of us in the arts NEED to read. Acting is an art, and we never stop learning.

This incredible book is at your fingertips with advice, personal experiences to give you a feel of what you as an actor should know. While these ladies focus on ladies' exleriences, never fear, gents, the works are for all to soak up and apply.

Having acted, been in a short zombie film, and now an author, with a heckuva great fiction on the way, I can relate to the stories I still get thrills when I see a friend in a commercial, or guest star or have a recurring role in series!!!

What a thrill and hard work and a few being at the right places at the right time can do!! Oh and having talent, drive and passion are necessary too!

A great tool to see the reality of the business, this Aspiring Actor's Handbook is a must.

I still dream of being at the Oscars, but winning Best Adaptation from a Book...we all have dreams, and this book hits the target!

Ellen George, author of Children's book, Flutterby, and writing amazing book of fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can you give 6 stars????, November 11, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mrs. Poe (Hardcover)
I got this on Kindle, but it wouldn't let me review there. Go figure.
Am a huge Edgar Allan Poe fan.
I saw Mrs. Poe reviewed in People Magazine and ordered it in a NY second.
It is masterful.
Frances S. Osgood is a poet in the 1840's. She is also abandoned by her artist husband and lives with friends.
She has sold some poetry, but the real superstar of the day is a fellow named Poe...Edgar Allan Poe. His The Raven is on everyone's lips. They can't get enough of him.
Mrs. Osgood goes to gatherings where the Literati of the day come to talk about writing, authors and accomplishments.
In walks none other than a striking man dressed in black, the man himself Edgar Allan Poe! And his wife/cousin with him.
Frances, or Fanny as she is called, is taken to meet Poe and instant electricity happens between them. They are tied as any couple could be. Mrs. Poe, whom we know has consumption likes Franny and wishes to be her friend.
So starts a romance of spirit, not overstepping the morals of the time between the two people.
Close in proximity, but not scandalous.
As Franny gets to know the Poe family, she realizes she and Poe are linked and soon innocent appearances at the same soirees, and their poems in the papers seen like love letters.

All seems terribly like courtly love, chaste. Franny, Virginia, Mrs. Clemm and Edgar forming a form of friendship so Franny and Edgar can be near each other.

Seems Edgar has stopped drinking and is at the height of his career. But all the public wants him to recite is The Raven. Gets old for the author after a while--a mind that holds so much...

Well, we know Edgar dies Oct. 1849.

Strange things happen as the two forces of passion start to gain attention, however innocent. Remember this was a strict time where a compromised woman was ostracized and shunned by society.

Yet the passion continues, as do strange happenings to Franny...
Edgar's stories of the bizarre and frightening are becoming popular. Yet...he cannot find that place in stardom that will make him soar.
Without her.
The latter years of Edgar's life are well documented and author Lynn Cullen combines all factors and the book continues to go from fabulous to wow.
Madness?? Genius?? Philanderer??
For you to read and if you're like me, marvel at.

It was suggested that Franny was truly involved with Poe, but he was thought to have women friends...

A masterful book with masterful real life characters who have changed our view of literature.

Couldn't put it down. Eddie would have give the book 6 stars.

Ellen George, author of children's book Flutterby and writing first fictional novel.
