5.0 out of 5 stars A new direction in Lizzie Borden books., March 19, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
During the publication years of the Lizzie Borden Quarterly, as editor it was always my pleasure to publish articles submitted my Mrs. Sherry Chapman. It was obvious that she not only was blessed with a great writing talent, but also, well steeped in Lizzie-lore. But this book she authored exceeded all my expectations, which were very high from the beginning.

First of all, she had to develop the concept, which to the best of my knowledge, had never before occurred. Secondly, the research must have been most exhaustive and time consuming. Thirdly, putting the multiplicity of these words into logical divisions and thought patterns was superb. and finally, the pictures magnified the work and adding the tombstones garnished the entire book.

Thank you Mrs. Chapman. It would be particularly welcome if these old eyes might once again take great pleasure in reading your next book. Don't let us down!

3.0 out of 5 stars Where is the salt!, May 27, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I sincerely enjoyed this book. Its almost like having Ms. Guilfoyle sit down in your living room and talk to you. The book is well written and easy to read. Thankfully it has an index, which is all to often lacking in today's non-fiction books.

I very much enjoy Ms. Guilfoyle on the Fox News Network in all her shows, especially "The Five." On a recent episode Ms. Guilfoyle talked about her book with several pictures of her and others. I especially enjoyed the picture of her as a prosecutor when she was dubbed, "Hurricane."

Why then, you might ask, didn't I give the book five stars. Well, I would have, had some of the great pictures of her, and others, been included. Unfortunately, there are no pictures included. After seeing her on "The Five" with the great pictures, the book is like pretzels without salt. Even so, I would still recommend the book to others.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where's the index!, May 24, 2015

This review is from: A Fine Romance (Hardcover)
All in all, this is a well written book mainly focusing on her family and the TV show "Murphy Brown." The only reason for the three star evaluation is the fact that there is no index. This failing is all to prevalent today. If you wish to re-read any subject it is necessary to look through the entire book with uncertain results. I do wish that editors would set a standard to include indexes for all non-fiction books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Two D's - Disappointment and Disorganization., April 20, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Throughout this book the author lavishes great praise on the staff, which I am certain that every word is true and well deserved, however, the praise takes up approximately 80% of the whole leaving precious little space for the actual stories. The stories themselves are not earth-shattering, but rather mundane and not at all unknown previously.

In addition, the stories are scattered throughout rather than organized serially. I would have upped my rating to four stars had there been a chapter for each administration instead of mixed blessings.

I gave this book two stars instead of one due to the great amount of research done by the author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not afraid, not shy!, July 25, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First of all, the book is enchanting, an easy read and written in the first person. It is just as though Miss Jones was sitting in your family room and chatting away to her best friend. It does elaborate quite a bit beyond her earlier book.

The photographs are gathered together in a single section containing colored photos as well as black and white.

I would have rated the book as four stars had it not been for two deficiencies, as I view it.

1. As is becoming more and more common, this biography does not contain an index. Her first one did.

2. The final chapter, with the exception of the last segment, could have been left out of the book. It told me more than I would ever want to know about Miss Jones, or anybody else for that matter.

2.0 out of 5 stars Actor Yes - Maverick No!, November 20, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Reading this book is like having a heart-to-heart talk with Mr. Garner himself. It is pleasant and easy reading as well as self-descriptive and personal. Just make certain you will not be offended by his left wing politics prior to reading.

There is one problem that looms heavy in my mind. Like another recently published autobiography, (Florence Henderson), it does not contain an index! Speaking for myself, there are those times after reading a book, I like to go back over certain items, however, without an index, this process is time consuming at best. I consider this a cheat and would like to know beforehand if the volume is indexed or not.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ah yes, I remember it well., October 12, 2011

Miss Henderson writes in a charming, open manner. It is an easy read, well written and competently extends her known public persona. If this is all you need, and to most it will be, then by all means buy the book. But I do have a problem ...

Lately, more and more biographies are published without indexes. I don't know who's to blame, either the publisher or the author, but in my mind, it's a cop-out.

Many times, after reading a book, I like to return to a certain section and re-read it. This is impossible to do here, without wasting time. I do wish the listings would include that fact.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware - This is not a genuine HP product, September 4, 2009
On Amazon.com this toner set is not listed as compatible, unlike other vendors who clearly and correctly define their product. Consequently one would think that this is a genuine HP product. Also, the price exceeds advertised compatible products.

I bought a set and discovered upon arrival that these are 'compatible.'

I requested my money back and was refused. They have a 25% restocking charge if returned.

Amazon.com should require that the word 'compatible' be included in the advertisement
