5.0 out of 5 stars Twine, twine, everywhere some twine!, September 30, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
While it may not be the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota, it works great on my kitchen counter. Before the Oxo good grip twine dispenser I would be ready to truss a chicken, start digging in a drawer full of "stuff" to find the twine, usually partially unwound,, another drawer to try and find scissors, then cut the twine.. this is so much more organized and easy! Another plus is the way it winds around and the weight of the base means I can get the twine with just one hand, using the other to hang onto the meat.

The cutter is very well surrounded so you don't run the risk of cutting your finger, important for those of us who are clumsy in the kitchen. The twine simply goes down the middle of the holder, up through the guide, and through the cutter.

This is one of those items that might seem like a space waster or specialty item, but it's so convenient it's sure to become a valued kitchen helper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful all arond skillet, September 30, 2014
We were looking for a versatile travel skillet we could pack with our dishes, handpresso, and various items we take on vacation. We rent places with kitchens, or we take our induction portable burner and the provided pans are often simply awful, cheap, badly used etc. This nonstick pan is easy to clean, comes with a lid, has high enough sides to be able to cook a variety of foods.

I don't care about the little hot spot thing, but I do care that we can make breakfast and supper, then clean it easily and store it and it will provide long durable use.

5.0 out of 5 stars A winner in the kitchen, September 27, 2014
I have one of those pizza cutting wheels and absolutely love it, for cutting pastry, ravioli, pretty much anything but pizza. The cheese sticks in the wheel, it's hard to clean and a big mess. But knives aren't long enough, scissors are a mess, what is the solution? The Culina Pizza cutter! 14" inches long is plenty long enough for most pizzas, the blade is sharp enough to go through the crust with ease. The light wood is rounded, the blade is firmly attached for years of use. The tapered edges make it rock and make cutting the pizza so easy! This is a quality built easy to use, and clean! Pizza cutter.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gleaned from ATK and cook's country already published books and recipes, September 26, 2014
This review is from: The Make Ahead Cook (Paperback)
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Deja vu, could you be the recipe I once knew?

I was excited about the make ahead cook from ATK... I'm always looking to save time and get food on the table, but as I read through the recipes I kept thinking, gosh, this is so familiar. For example, the Sesame noodles with chicken and the chilled somen noodles with shrimp came out of the noodle cookbook. To make it "make ahead" they changed the recipe a touch, saying to store the sauce separately and make the noodles the night you actually want to serve.

The pot roast in foil is another recipe I know was previously published, I've made it, it's delicious. Slow cooker revolution recipes are found here, the turkey and wild rice soup, The atlanta brisket is from Cook's country. I found more from ATK episodes, other cookbooks, there might be one or two original recipes in here but if you have the other cookbooks you will find these, some have been fiddled with in a very minor way, like cut the veggies ahead.

I would have given this a lower score but there are some nice things, like the storage information in the front. However, I tend to feel duped when offered a cookbook that is just a compilation of other cookbooks and recipes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Large napkin rings, September 20, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
These are fairly nice napkin rings, big. They would like nice on a fall or winter table setting, they have a sort of icicle/ winter acorn tree vibe going. I had to clean them, there was some sort of black stuff that I thought was tarnish at first, but they wiped off. These are heavy and solid and with the right setting and napkins would look good, definitely not for everyday these would work good for a formal dinner or small party.

5.0 out of 5 stars Layla is back, September 20, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The book starts out with Roth missing, Zayne still off limits, and Layla reeling from the finding out who and what she is. She also has a demonic snake tat, Bambi, one of my favorite characters, still trying to fit in school and mortal friends.

Nothing works out for Layla, this book is even darker than the first, with her "family" turning against her and willing to torture and killer her, Roth rejecting her, and bad things are happening that she is being blamed for, and in the world of Gargoyles, demons and wraiths, a Lilin, a super baddie, might have been born.

Zayne grows up a little in this one, less trusting of his and Layla's family and friends, more willing to see what is going on and how she is being treated.

While I find the writing tight, the story interesting, the action fast and furious, a little happy or relief would be nice in the grand scheme of things.

Zombie, Illinois: A Novel
Zombie, Illinois: A Novel
Price: $7.69

2.0 out of 5 stars Less Political droning, more zombies please, September 20, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Zombie Il is a book about corrupt Illinois politicians with a few zombies thrown in. I think more people are killed by bullets and boredom when the author is droning on and on and on about the alderman's and mayor and politics than are killed by zombies.

A few things worked, the way Pastor Mack, Ben, and Maira's lives kept intertwining felt more believable than contrived. I loved the part where Pastor Mack is talking about the parts of the bible where it's not so comforting about the dead and the afterlife. Who Maria is and why that involves them in the political mess is good.

There are a lot of F-bombs, including from the pastor. After awhile they stop being effective and just get gratuitous.

I thought I was buying a book about zombies, not a diatribe about Illinois politicians with a few zombies thrown in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super fun and versatile, September 18, 2014
This Neon LED writing board is fantastic fun! With the bright neon lights, the remote control, and the erasable markers included, it's amazing how exciting and fun this board is. I've been getting stencils, like Halloween, drawing on it, putting it in the window, plugging it in, and I have an amazing holiday display, birthdays, Christmas, Easter, or just for fun. The remote is easy to use and makes this board so versatile because of all the colors, the lights, the blinking. It's a shiny shiny fun board.

For a small business it would be great, for kids drawing it would make the drawings come to life without a great expense. I highly recommend this board.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a heavy, heavy duty vacuum, September 18, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
It's a vacuum and a workout! I went back and forth between four and five stars but let me start from the beginning, I got a well packed box inside another box. My initial reaction was surprise at how heavy the box was. I unpacked the vacuum, no drama, everything was well packed and accounted for.

You need a phillips screwdriver to attach the handle, but it was a fast easy screw in and that is the only tool you need. The handle goes in, the canister/tunnel part snaps in easily. The hose curves over the hump where the old time cords used to wind around and snaps into a hole on the other side, literally. There is a little catch that you can hear click when you push it in far enough, and you need to release it to get it back out.

The crevice tool fits into the hard extension tube, the little mini vacuum attachment fits in front and the other little tool sits on the other side, so everything is on the vacuum. The hose and attachment system is super easy to use. Here is an embarrassing confession, I have had a Dyson for over six years and still can't figure out how to get the handle thing out to use the attachments. The hoover is super easy,.

There is a step lever on the back so you can move the body up or down. At first the hose didn't seem very long but it actually reaches my ceiling, sorry crack spiders. On the left side is the brush on and off button you step on, brush on for carpet and off for hard floors. Up is brush on, down is brush off- the directions say the button comes defaulted with the brush on, but mine actually wasn't.

Suction wise this vacuum sucks! And with a vacuum that is a good thing. It works great on the carpet, the tile, and then I can easily switch over to the hose and the tools. The suction is strong on those also. There is a turn button on front so you can change it to low for bare floor, then adjust up higher and higher depending on how thick or plush your carpet is.

The only negative I really have about this vacuum, and the one that gave me a bit of pause, is it weighs a lot, and it's actually not that easy to push over carpet. If your of regular strength it would be fine, but anyone compromised, an older or weaker person might have issues lugging this up and down stairs, or even pushing across the carpet. I don't consider mine terribly plush and I had to go pretty high on the lever to make the vacuum pushable.

Also, a lot of the bells and whistles are plastic. The brush on/off button, the lean back lever, the tools, and I wonder about the longevity, however I have no reason to think it won't last, metal extensions are a thing of the past.

Ultimately though, even on the higher setting it vacuumed like a champ, getting dirt and ick out of my carpet and it did great on the bare tile. The ease of using the attachments and overall cleaning quality makes this a five.
