Captured by Grace: No One Is Beyond the Reach of a Loving God
Captured by Grace: No One Is Beyond the Reach of a Loving God
by David Jeremiah
Edition: Hardcover
195 used & new from $0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Grace, August 20, 2011
It's a song, it's a title of a movie, but what does it really mean?

In his book, Captured by Grace, Dr. David Jeremiah takes apart the old hymn line by line and clearly explains its true meaning. Starting with the story of the song's author, captain-turned-minister, John Newton, Dr. Jeremiah tells of the life-changing events in Newton's life which inspired the song.

Why is Grace so important?

It is freely given to us even though we don't and did nothing to deserve it.

...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. ~Romans 3:23-24

Redemption - God redeemed His Son's life for our sins. Before Jesus came, people sacrificed lambs, doves and other animals to please God and to ask God to forgive their sins and wrongdoings. They had to do this on a weekly basis when they came to Temple on the Sabbath to worship.

But when Jesus came and died on the cross, He was the sacrificial Lamb to beat all sacrificial lambs - The Lamb of God. Because Jesus redeemed Himself for us, we are once and for all forgiven. He paid the ultimately price only because God loved us so much and wants us to live with Him forever in paradise.

After each chapter, Dr. Jeremiah offers "Moments of Grace" showing the reader how to adapt God's Grace into their daily lives. For instance, after Chapter 8 - The Confident Promise of Grace, he has:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. ~ Romans 8:28

"Take it as a given that your current set of burdens will work out for good. Remember that discouragement is always from the devil, and make a choice to rejoice in the Lord `always' and `always' means today!"

Newton's epitaph is from Paul's letter to Titus:
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. ~Titus 2:11-14

You, too, can have God's Grace freely given no matter what you've done in the past. This book will help you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent message - terrific story!, October 26, 2010
This review is from: What Would Jesus Do? (DVD)
Excellent message - how one person can change how a whole town lives by simply saying "What would Jesus do?" This movie is loosly based on the 1898 novel, "In His Steps: What would Jesus Do?" by Charles Sheldon. The names are the same, but the story takes a modern tone, but the valuable lesson is the same. A drifter, played by John Schneider is shunned by the community even the pastor of a dying church, played by Jim Gleason, tells him "I'm sorry that I can't help you." But the message the drifter brings to a church is "would Jesus act that way?" As church members start changing the way they do things from running their businesses to helping the less fortunate, the wave of love and goodness takes over the town even when a greedy, ruthless politician wants to take over.

This message is vital to the world in this day and age. Imagine what would happen if every Christian would think before acting and ask themselves "what would Jesus do in my place?

5.0 out of 5 stars What will the world be like after the Rapture of Christians?, January 22, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Have you ever wondered what the world would be like after the Christians are taken up to heaven at the time of the Rapture. Left Behind - the Movie was the adaptation of the first book of the best selling series - Left Behind. This is book 2.

Tribulation Force has our heroes, Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron), Capt. Raymond Steele (Brad Johnson), Chloe Steele (Janaya Stephens) and Pastor Bruce Barnes (Clarence Gilyard Jr.) uniting forces to go up against the Antichrist, Nicolae Carpathia (Gordon Currie).

Carpathia is creating a one-world government, currency and religion. He wants to convince the world that he is the Messiah and it's up to Buck and Ray to stop him - to get the message of the truth out instead.

Not in the book, but prominently placed in the movie is a version of Kirk Cameron's "Way of the Master" pitch trying to convert a friend of Ray's.

If you don't have time to read the book, this is a great concise retelling of the story and it gets the most important message across - if you don't believe in your heart that Jesus is the Son of God and your savior, you will be left behind.

What In the World Is Going On?: 10 Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford to Ignore
by David Jeremiah
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars We are living in the end times - Dr. David Jeremiah explains it all in this book, January 22, 2010
What in the World is Going On? 10 Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford to Ignore is an excellent explanation of how we are clearly living in the end times.

He answers the question, "Does American have a roll in Prophecy?" The U.S. is not mentioned in the Bible. Will the U.S. continue to be a super power? Not after the Rapture.

Dr. Jeremiah explains that once the millions of Christians, the salt and light of the earth, are taken away to heaven, all that's going to leave are unbelievers and evil doers and the start of the Tribulation.

The chaos after the Rapture will lead to the rise of the Antichrist who will rule the world. There will be a new axis of evil, then the war of Armageddon, then Jesus will come back to rule the world in peace.

If you have any doubts or questions on Biblical Prophecy and how it will affect you, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, January 19, 2010

This review is from: Left Behind - The Movie (DVD)
I just watched "Left Behind - the Movie" for the umpteenth time and I still find it a brilliant adaptation of the first book of the Left Behind Series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. It brings to life a the scenario of what the world would be like when the Rapture Christian happens and the rise of the Antichrist. They couldn't have picked a better place than on an airplane in the air to have the Christians and children disappear - I mean, where else could they have gone?

The reaction of the people left behind is portrayed well by Brad Johnson (Capt. Rayford Steele), Kirk Cameron (Buck Williams) and Clarence Gilyard (Rev. Bruce Barnes) - playing a minister who had spoken the Word, yet was left behind. His line, "There's a difference between knowing and believing." That is the problem with may who profess to be Christian - they know the details, but they don't believe.

People need to see this movie to have a peak at what the near future may look like when all the godly people are taken away to be with Jesus in heaven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fear not tomorrow - God is already there, December 17, 2009
Ruth Graham, Billy Graham's daughter, could not have chosen a better time to publish this book. Many people are living in fear. Fearing what tomorrow may bring now that they've lost their jobs, homes, a loved one, marriage or they've been diagnosed with an illness.

She explains passages in the Bible like when Jesus didn't go rushing to help his friend Lazarus and Lazarus died. She writes, "God is never in a hurry. His goal is not to meet our expectations but to point us to the larger, eternal purpose in what He chooses to do - to shift our focus." (page 61)

The book helps readers trust God, to feel His comfort, peace, power, presence, forgiveness, restoration, affirmation, hope and to anticipate His plans.

After each chapter, she has a "Point of Focus" - a Bible verse pertinent to the chapter's theme. The idea is to mediate on that verse to really understand what it is saying. How do you that? Read it over and over again. Read it out loud. Ask yourself, "What does God what me to know from this passage?" "What is He saying to me?" and "What does He want me to do?"

She also offers a very nice list of God's attributes in an "ABC Praise List" as well as an additional reading list and call to accept Jesus.

"Fear not tomorrow - God is already there! Hallelujah!" (page 255)

4.0 out of 5 stars Ancient history buffs will like this., May 26, 2009
From 4 BC to 418 AD, Baxter follows the legacy of two families from ancient Britannia led by a prophecy that proclaims from a "God-as-babe" birth to the dneath of an emperor. The brilliant interweaving of the lives of the characters and the relvance of the prophecy. As a history buff and a fellow writer of Roman Empire historical fiction, I recommend this book. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic true story, May 24, 2009
At first, because it was rated R, I wasn't going to see it, but because it was based on a true story, I thought I'd try it. The opening scene almost made me shut it off, but I hung in there since I enjoy Denzel Washington and Russell Crow (very convincing performances). I was not dissappointed. What struck me was the contrast in the two main characters - Frank Lucas (Denzel), the suave drug dealer/businssman and Det. Richie Roberts (Russell), the humble, extremely honest cop. I grew up in NY during this time and vaguely remember hearing about that. It's a good drama, the era of the late 60s - early 70s was recreated perfectly.
