5.0 out of 5 stars Best new series for this age, August 7, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My almost-6-year-old is fairy obsessed and loves chapter books. We read them with her at night. These are great! Very enjoyable for the parent as well as the kid. They are genuinely well written (unlike a certain other series of fairy books). She also likes that they are "problem stories" rather than a bad guy causing a problem. No one is intentionally causing problems or harm (a plot devise that really upsets her) and the "danger" is never dragged out for too long. Both the girl and fairy characters are really well developed. I recommend these books for anyone with a kid 5-8 years old that is interested in fairies. And yes, I know boys who like these stories, too!

2.0 out of 5 stars Watered down and simplified, September 27, 2012
We got this book for my daughter because she loves "what do people do all day". Unfortunately, this is basically the same book but without the great complexity of the drawings and all the details. And Able Baker Charlie was a different species!

This may be good for a younger child, but my daughter had no problem with the original at 2 1/2. My advice is go get @What Do Oeople Do All Day" and skip this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Creative dollhouse, but for whom?, September 27, 2012

I recently bought this dollhouse for my daughter's fourth birthday. She's really into dollhouses and I like wooden ones and good color. I also loved the idea of being able to make different houses, adding another dimension to play.

The quality is pretty good and it is straightforward to assemble. However, I would reccomend putting it together before. It takes a while and an impatient child will not make it easier.

Some complained that there is so much stuff with it that it's too much. I have to agree. Also, what is has is kind of weird. The home gym rivals many hotels and the laundry room is massive. However, there is nothing kid orientEd for the house. Kids tend to project in their play and frequently want to play baby/mommy and act out the domestic scenes they see around them. But there are no kids or babies with this set, nor is there a nursery or playroom. If I were the makers of this toy, I would drop the gym and most of the laundry stuff ( the hamper and machine would suffice, everything else is too small) and add a crib, twin bed, changing table, toy box, and maybe a tiny dollhouse or rocking horse or something and add a child and a baby to the family.

Other than that change, this is a good toy and a great value.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless, August 31, 2012
Maybe I'm out of the loop when it comes to styling products, but since when do curling irons not have clamps? A glove is not an adequate substitution for a clamp to hold the ends of your hair on the iron. Also, this does not work with short hair It's frustrating and awkward and will be returned.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not to be bought on its own!, March 14, 2011
I was given this seat as a gift and was really looking forward to using it. The quality looks great and I could use it with both my toddler and infant. But nowhere on this listing does it make clear that it cannot be used without a Hushamok stand so my generous gifter didn't buy one and I'm not going to spend another couple hundred dollars to use it and I'm certainly not going to tell them they only got half a gift.

So, be aware. This seems like a great seat if you already have the stand for the hammok and, Amazon, you need to provide a warning that this product cannot be used on its own.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mockery of children's lit, September 16, 2003
This review is from: The English Roses (Hardcover)
Madonna's first attempt at a children's book is a horrible attempt. She tries much too hard on this whole British thing, channeling Mary Poppins, and is much too obvious with the lessons to be learned by the little girls. The idea that the beautiful little girl has to slave away while the snotty little girls are mean is just a little too "Little Princess" (which is a much, MUCH better book) and very anachronistic. Madonna is trying very hard to build a new classic but fails. There are great children's books out there, many with good messages, but this is not one of them.
