5.0 out of 5 stars Get pumping with Scott's book, May 17, 2001
This book is very useful for developing strength and control of both hands. It's focus is on goal directed practice of left hand and right hand excercises - so don't buy it if you're looking for a book of music - but DO buy if you want to improve your technique, and you're willing to put regular focussed practice into achieving results. The key to development here is discipline - ie. stick to the exercises in the book and do them regularly - I know this can be a challenge at times, but the rewards are worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for all levels of player, January 30, 2000
This book is an excellent resource for those wishing to improve their technical and musical mastery of the guitar. A lot of the information is not (or should not be) new to any serious guitarist, however the author presents it in such a simple and logical way that when you put it into practice, you should see almost immediate improvements in your playing. The book is really a "system" of playing, practicing and approach to the guitar (and yourself) which is almost exquisite in its simplicity. I'm not aware of the author as a well known classical guitarist, but I suspect he's an excellent teacher and communicator, and I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve his or her playing. Having said that, keep in mind that the other essential ingredients to making beautiful music come not from any book or teacher, but from within yourself - ie. disciplined goal directed practice, patience, and an unshakeable belief that you can do it.

3.0 out of 5 stars You'll need more than Jim William's book to build a guitar.., January 4, 2000
This book doesn't really provide enough detail to allow you build a guitar, without having either prior guitar building experience, or a good teacher to assist you. The diagrams and photographs are not particularly clear, and the book generally glosses over the fine details of construction. The section on finishing is quite good, and will be of some use if you're intending finishing the guitar yourself. Be carefull if you intend using the templates in the back of the book - specifically the fingerboard template, which on my copy had all the frets spaced incorrectly when compared to a standard fret rule for a classical guitar. I suspect the photocopying process has enlarged the scale by a small but significant amount...
