4.0 out of 5 stars A unique and engaging read., July 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Firefly (Kindle Edition)
An unusual book in that it is hard to categorise. It's funny but it's not a comic novel. A good story but it's not a thriller or adventure novel. This is what makes it so readable and so different. And you'll find out a lot about Barbados too. Recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, March 17, 2009
This item works just fine. Until about 3 months after the warranty runs out. Then it will become an expensive paperweight.

I have owned 2 of these and they both died inside 15 months. After doing some research it seems that this is standard. Logitech techs I have spoken to admit that the remote does tend to die "in 18 months or so".

If you can afford to spend this kind of money for a remote that won't last two years then this is a great buy. To everybody else, buy an X10 icon remote (but don't pay more than $50). It is definitely NOT as good as the Harmony but it is so much cheaper.

Virtually nothing of any interest here to people looking to build their own place

2.0 out of 5 stars Shoddy, September 3, 2006
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Essentially a good idea, but utterly hamstrung by poor speech recognition and VERY poor character recognition.

Make no mistake, these two things serve to completely ruin the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste money on the inferior iPod, September 3, 2006
Unless you are one of those who has to have what everyone else has, then this is a far better choice then the iPod. My girlfriend has an iPod and it is so awkward in it's managament of files compared to the Zen Photo that she begged me to get her a Zen too.

Her Zen had problems but was swiftly replaced by Amazon and the new one is perfect.

This sounds better than an iPod, is cheaper, has a replaceable battery, has a longer battery life and charges with a standard USB cable. I have tried many different players and this one is the best for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luminous, August 31, 2005
One reviewer here gave this book one star because he thought the protagonist and her family racist. He is mostly right. None of that need detract from the fact that this is a superb book with a transparency and sense of place rarely seen.

you may not always agree with what you read in it but that does not make it any less worth reading. Speaking as a mixed race man who has lived in many places in Africa, I found this to be honest and well-observed. The fact that the author does not attempt to re-write her family history to appear politically correct speaks for her honesty.

Go read this magnificent book.

4.0 out of 5 stars For fans only, August 19, 2005
If you're a fan you'll like this, but for the casual listener it really doesn't warrant the expenditure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon screw up, August 19, 2005
I didn't want to give this a low star review as i have never seen this book. I ordered it, but was then told it was not available. Then Amazon sent me an email asking me to review it!!!

I'd love to say something about this book as I am a huge Alan Moore fan but haven't read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good if you understand it, February 12, 2005
This review is from: Watchmen (Paperback)
I won't waste time praising Watchmen. There are several negative reviews here many of which level the accusation of it being boring. These reviews are evidently written by people who didn't understand the premise and appreciate the subtle nuance of the writing. Don't let these reviews put you off reading one of the finest books of any sort published in the last 30 years

2.0 out of 5 stars No gameplay variety, August 11, 2004
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: City of Heroes - PC (CD-ROM)
The main problem here is the gameplay. Combat, combat and more combat. And that's it.

Really. There is absolultely nothing else in the gameplay. No matter how much you like superheros, you are going to get bored eventually.
