5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting and elegant collection, May 10, 2016

This is an immaculately crafted, emotionally devastating collection. There's so much elegant silence in these poems, but the carry a great deal of genuine heartbreak. The language is deft, the images are forceful and haunting. I cannot recommend this chapbook strongly enough.

3.0 out of 5 stars An okay start; nothing especially innovative or exciting, ..., October 16, 2014
An okay start; nothing especially innovative or exciting, but it's the first issue so I'm waiting to see where it goes from here. One minor point on the art: character is describing, at one point, a 'classic Stingray corvette', and picture is of a modern corvette. Just kinda bugged me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dark, complicated crime thriller charged with Ellis' standout wit and black humor, October 5, 2014

This review is from: Gun Machine (Hardcover)
It really doesn't get much better than Warren Ellis. He's an expert, prolific sculptor of intense stories, hilarious characters, and some of the blackest humor being printed these days. Every character is aflame with grizzled anger and idiosyncratic flair that has become Ellis' trademark style. A dark, complicated crime thriller that manages the rarest things in genre fiction: unique characters and an intricate plot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing all that innovative, but a decentish crime thriller, October 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This isn't quite as innovative or creepy as I was really hoping it would be, but King has probably never written a bad novel ever. This ends up being a fairly formulaic but altogether decent noirish crime thriller. The characters are all about as cardboard as it gets (the grizzled retired homicide detective, the incestuous and slimy serial killer) but most readers know what they're getting from King at this point and won't be too disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acute and forbidding take on our growing Digital Age, October 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This long essay from probably the most acutely insightful futurists of maybe even a couple of generations is completely a steal at $4. If you're someone even slightly intrigued by the increasing levels of connectivity in the growing Digital Age, buy this essay, like, yesterday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harrowing and hilarious near-future survival story, October 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Reads like a near-future cross between MacGuyver and Apollo 13. Manages moments of hilarious levity amid a harrowing, incredibly lonely survival story. It feels almost unbelievable that this is Andy Weir's first novel, it's a deftly sculpted story from beginning to end. This is also an incredibly witty novel -- I was laughing so frequently during one reading session that it convinced my father to go straight to Amazon to buy it himself, and he -loved- it.

What's there to say? Great color, high quality cloth gaming surface. You really can't do better than this, especially for the price.

Bird Box: A Novel
Bird Box: A Novel

Price: $11.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Visceral and atmospheric, a deftly handled horror debut, October 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bird Box: A Novel (Kindle Edition)
Intensely atmospheric, Malerman's ability to conjure a hectic, terrified feeling from beginning to end is masterful and almost unbelievable in a first novel. The psychology (and, frequently, psychosis) of the characters throughout Bird Box is limned in gritty, macabre gestures. Without spoiling anything, the 'Attic Scene' in particular is expertly handled. This is a visceral horror novel that manages to take the trope of both monster and dystopian novels to innovative spaces.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality, fair price, versatile gaming mouse, October 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
SteelSeries products in my experience always exhibit high build quality and a fair price, and the Rival is no exception. Looks and feels like a mouse that could be double the price. Feels comfortable and accurate for both palm and claw grips. Works well on both cloth and hard gaming surfaces. Software is intuitive and thorough. Ability to customize colored lighting is a nice if somewhat trivial touch. My only complaint is that while the custom lighting allows for many different shades, it doesn't seem to do orange at all, only managing a sort of pale yellow when selecting orange shading.
