5.0 out of 5 stars irony and turkish coffee via vanderbilt and warhol, September 30, 2014
When I was 19 years old living in a sublet flat, this cookbook came with the kitchen. I wondered if the illustrator, Andrew Warhol, was Andy Warhol in his pre-fame days. What impressed me about this cookbook, decades before near eastern or greek or turkish or lebanese etc food became trendy? The recipe for turkish coffee! To my amazement, Amy Vanderbilt got it right. So just for that shock, a full five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars hello kitty cake pan takes the cake, January 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bought this as a gift for a friend who loves hello kitty. No idea how well it will perform for baking. It is very thin, so I suspect will need to be very careful to avoid a burnt cake. For experienced bakers, it's worth the risk! P. S. Also bought the hello kitty birthday candle to go with it. Adorable!

5.0 out of 5 stars big beautiful and boxed, July 6, 2008
The real reason I bought it is that even though I read The Sandman first run, I have the issues scattered throughout uncounted files and boxes. Couldn't pull them out to read them without a major overhaul. This book is big and gorgeous and once shelved, will be there when I need it. Well made compendiums are for keeping and using. This one is worth its weight. All I can hope is that when I'm old and frail, I'll still be able to lift it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite Sandman: Absolute Sandman Vol. 1, January 12, 2007
I've had the pleasure of working with beautifully bound books on a regular basis. Also have had the pleasure of reading Sandman (now a classic) in the individual issues of the original series. The new material alone is worth the price of admission. The book's format and binding is a treat. Fine bindings are almost a lost art, but to have an exquisitely bound and slipcased edition of the comic that brought a revolution in the perception and understanding of comics is a testament to the respect and dignity that the Sandman series has given to all comic lovers. For those new to the series, this is an opportunity to enjoy the legendary stories in the optimal edition. It's simply beautiful. The stories, of course, have become classics in their own time and are worth reading in the original, perhaps dog-eared editions, as well as this exquisite volume.
