1.0 out of 5 stars Looks like the respected Grundig Satellite 700, May 6, 2013
OMG. This is a look alike of the venerable Grundig Satellite 700. The first review looks very much like an infomercial than a review. Don't get fooled this not Grundig nor is it an SW receiver. [...]

This is just an AM/FM thingy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Little Gem it is, January 24, 2007
The RFP50-As the orther rewier has said.. it is little gem. Gem is perhaps the correct word to describe the radio.

Wel built and nice looking and evoking the past pocket radios, nice little sound.

But when it comes to AM reception little muffled. As I have said elsewehere Sony' MK2 is better in the AM department. I have since 2004 July and I love the radio-I don't know why-you too will just love it-it is more emotional than loigcal-like the love you havge for beetles and minis.

The finish is much better than the its competitor, the panasonic guys have paid more attention to little details, like the batt compartment and the Production details moulded at the back.

The best thing I love about the radio is the little ear piece that comes with it-the connical one that stuff into your ear-not the stereo ones-cute and reminding the olde types.

But the antenna is as filmsy as the Sony's. Feel very fragile but ok.

Good in FM tuning but bit weak in AM.

But then we buy radio to tune in stations...

4.0 out of 5 stars Super mini..out performs any am radios, January 24, 2007
I bought one Sony S10MK2 via web in 2004, December. I also have the Panasonic RFP50-contender. Sorry to say the RFP is nowhere near MK2.

This one is so good in construction it has worked like work horse for the since then and encountering several falls on hard cement floor, it still is as new as I bought three years ago.

AM reception is exceptional, so good that sometimes it is very difficult to tune in the right station-it's so crowded! But fading and drift exist-well for that price...

Two minor requests to Sony design team.

The finish could have been better- Panasonic radio despite "less powerful" comes off winner in the finish and minor details. I wish Sony would make same quality ones, with better finish and looks.( Well looks is very personal)

The Silver is paint, not the colour of the plastic and the paint quality is poor.

LIkewise the antenna could have been rotatable and sturdier it too filmsy.

But overall a fine radioto keep company in the nights.

Five stars for performance (for the category) and four for built quality.
