These Womens Bamboo Sandals by L.A. Beauty are shoddy, shoddy, shoddy! Poorly constructed and flimsy. They look just like a pair I bought in Anchorage last year, but they are definitely not the same! The soles of these are hard and stiff with no give to them at all, making you walk stiff-gaited like a Frankenstein monster. I'm afraid if I do force them to bend that they will break in two, since they are as light and brittle as styrofoam. Heck! They probably ARE styrofoam! The thong part to hold it on your foot is a very, very thin strip of weak fabric which cannot hold up to the strain of walking in them. These sandals are a joke! SAVE YOUR MONEY. IF YOU ARE LONGING TO FIND THAT COMFY PAIR OF BAMBOO FLIP FLOPS YOU USED TO HAVE, THESE ARE DEFINITELY NOT THEM!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Pronunciation Book for Beginners and Low Intermediates, August 24, 2012
I have used this book in my High-Beginning ESL classes for almost twenty years, starting with the first edition. I LOVE this book! It presents each vowel and consonant in a simple, clearly illustrated manner and gives just enough exercises to introduce but not overwhelm the students. Each lesson is about 3 to 4 pages in length, with lots of illustrations and enough "white space" so the book does not intimidate low level students. Basic suprasegmentals, such as word and sentence stress and intonation, are included at the end of each chapter, as well as the spelling patterns associated with each sound. I find the inclusion of spelling patterns to be invaluable, especially working with Middle Eastern students, as I do for the most part, who have little exposure to the Roman alphabet and the spelling rules of English. The Student Book includes an abridged CD, with the Dialogs only, and is intended to be used by the students to complete the Dialog portion of the book for homework. The complete set of class CDs is available separately for the classroom teacher or any other interested person, as well as an Instructor's Manual which provides extension activities, additional sets of phonemic pairs, and teaching suggestions. I could not recommend this book more highly. I wish I could give it a ten!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ony Mat That Really Works!, May 30, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As others have said, the construction of this mat is ingenious. It has long grass like fibers that brush the litter off of the cat's feet and then trap it within subtle grooves between each row of fibers. It is also long enough that the cat has to step on it at least once, if not more often, to get off of it, so cannot avoid having its feet brushed off. Many cats have trouble getting used to new or strange objects. It's definitely worth putting in the time to acclimate your cat to this mat if yours is as fussy as one of the other reviewer's cats. My cat has no problem with it though; and he is a fussy little monkey! He accepted it right away.

1.0 out of 5 stars Say It Ain't So, Lilian!, March 18, 2011
"Say It Ain't So, Joe"... was the disillusioned lament, legend has it, of a young boy to the baseball hero with feet of clay, Shoeless Joe Jackson. That quote came to mind as I read Lilian Jackson Braun's most recent entry in the "Cat Who" series, "The Cat With 60 Whiskers". So, to her, another Jackson, I say, "Say it ain't so, Lilian!"

Did you really have so much contempt for us, your legions of adoring fans -- we, who have lovingly put you at the top of the New York Times Bestseller List year after year -- we, who have happily made you a millionaire several times over? Did you really need to fleece us for another twenty bucks apiece by pawning off this travesty as a novel? Say it ain't so! Or, if it is that you no longer want to spend time in Moose County -- that its denizens no longer engage you -- did you really need to eviscerate them publicly and make us witness their unspeakable deaths? Say it ain't so!

I feel so betrayed. I feel so dirty! Now I need to go and re-read "The Cat Who Could Read Backwards" to wash the bad taste out of my mouth. Shame on you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Kindergarten to Grade 3 Reader, April 30, 2010
Whether she's in school or at home, Junie B. tries hard to do the funnest, bestest things! Kids laugh at her mistakes in grammar and her funny misunderstandings--and they love the good-hearted, realistic stories. This set of 25 books from the series--including many of Junie's adventures in kindergarten and first grade--is a great collection for any fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars FAIRY NECKLACE INCLUDED!, April 11, 2009
This boxed set of the first five books of The Weather Fairies series also includes a fairy necklace in the slipcase. A nice addition to the extremely popular Rainbow Magic series of books by Daisy Meadows and Georgie Ripper.

My daughter absolutely loves this set. She's read each book two or three times! She's never done that before! I hope Daisy Meadows is planning to write more in the series. I will certainly buy them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Linda's Homecoming, August 11, 2008
It centers around Linda Hollis whose whole life is uprooted and transplanted by her mother's second marriage. Saying good-bye to New York at the beginning of her senior year in high school is difficult for Linda, and she does not look forward to meeting her ready-made step-family. There is Babs, a glamorous girl Linda's age, but sullen and resentful of any intrusion. Babs's younger brother, Roddy, makes trouble from the start by breaking into Linda's prized photographic equipment. And Martin Stevens, Linda's stepfather, seems too absorbed in his Museum to untangle the family's troubles. Even the Stevens's cat picks a fight with Linda's pooch, Roughy.

However, under the tactful guidance of Linda's mother the two families are really united and Linda begins to put down new roots and feel at home in Midwestern Cedarhill in spite of herself. She joins the Shutter-Snappers, helps with a Museum project, and wins many friends--Gordon, a talented New York pianist, and Peter, who lives across the street, even Babs! Linda's romance is climaxed at an old fashioned box supper.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fire and the Gold, August 11, 2008
This review is from: The Fire and the Gold (Paperback)
On the eighteenth of April in 1906 a violent earthquake shook San Francisco. The fires that followed turned the city into a burning, smoky nightmare. That was the day Melora Cranby returned from Chicago. Unaware of the crisis ahead, her thoughts were on handsome Quent Seymour of Nob Hill. Their engagement must be broken when she reached home, however much it might disturb her mother.

But in one day the comfortable world she knew was swept away. When she reached the house, her family was gone and the fire was creeping closer. In the streets thousands of distraught refugees pushed their way to parks high above the frightening sounds of the angry, red flames. Beneath them the city crackled and roared and exploded.

For Melora the days that followed were filled with new experiences. There was the surprising encounter with impetuous Tony Ellis; and the conflict that was to grow between Tony and Quent-a conflict into which her younger sister Cora was drawn. There was her mother who had such definite ideas about the man Melora should marry. However, spirited Melora had as many ideas of her own.

By New Year's Eve a new San Francisco was emerging from the ruins and Melora was ready to make an important decision about her life and her love.
