5.0 out of 5 stars Gross in the Nose, May 12, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be shrunk down to the size of bugs and sucked into a human body? Well, that's exactly what happened to the two main characters in this new middle grade fantasy novel, by Betsy Haynes. A wonderfully, gross, yet beautiful written story about survival. After kid genius Farely Inkelberger (friends call him Ink and parents and teachers call him Farely) and his nerdy best friend Lucy Poff, get morphed by a CD called Morphing Magic, a software that allows you to change pictures in a truly unforgettable creative way, that it will literally seem so real, that it could suck you into the human nostril of their biggest enemy Roger Hunt! This book has a lot of gross factors that get these two main characters in a whole lot of trouble. They had to crawl their way through the jock's body until they find their way out. Even though they barely manage to escape being digested alive, they discover a way out just in the nick of time. A lot of things could have gone wrong, and any wrong move could end their life in sudden death. But thankfully, Farely's a genius, and got his best friend out of their biggest bully's body. I can't say how they managed to return to normal, because I don't wanna reveal the ending, because I want the readers to give this new book a try. I promise they won't be disappointed by the style of writing and that it does get a happy ending so I was completely satisfied with the whole story, just because it was something new I haven't read from my favorite author of all times. Great book. Would recommend it for any reader who is willing to try something new and isn't afraid of feeling a little bit grossed out. The writing is crisp and clean and just one of this rare new books that I just couldn't possibly put down. Look forward to new books by Betsy Haynes in the future. In the meantime, I wouldn't mind rereading this novel again soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars And They Say Movie Musicals Are Dead!, October 13, 2012
This review is from: Rock of Ages [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
"Rock of Ages" is a film adaptation of the classic Broadway musical. It's got some feel good moments in the movie, that will have you singing along with some old rock and roll numbers. It's a blast from the past that made me feel like you've stepped back through time. Rock and roll will never die, it lives on in this musical movie. I love Broadway musicals, because they tell a story that we can all remember them by. And this one, will certainly be kept in my heart, even though it does contain some strong sexual content, it doesn't go too over the top. But the music is what keeps the characters alive and strong as they sing all throughout the movie. Adam Shankman (Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "Once More, With Feeling," and "Hairspray,") directed another memorable movie that could be watched a numerous of times. Tom Cruise really sings really well and as with the other cast members. You never know who's gonna be the next Broadway star, in the movie business. The songs touched the story in a way that could be remembered that in the age of rock of roll, does not change a person's personality for the turn of the worst, but for another generation of music. You either gotta love or hate this movie, I simply love it for the genre. I can't wait for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Second Arc: Better Than the First?, March 31, 2012
After writing ninteen oringinal horror books by the Thriller Master, you might say that he would be finished by now! But it seems that Mr. Stine is still going on at it strongly. I'm missing some of the original first story arc of HorrorLand, but I will post my reviews of the first story arc once I get them.

Welcoem to the Hall of Hall of Horrors. A place where kids can find an old castle that can't be found on the HorrorLand map. It's a haunted place for visitors to come and tell their tale of horror to the Story-Keeper. He is the Keeper of their stories. Every story is different for each visit. And so the Story-Keeper puts their shadowy faces on a wall, to remind them that their story is safe with the Keeper. And so the first visitor is about a girl named Mickey and a cat named Bella. Lets begin the review, shall we?

There was nothing unusal about Bella, the negighbor's cat. that young Mickey, before te accident. The accident that changed his life for the worst. On the first day, Mickey and his best friend, were taking care of Bella, like they were supposed too, but had left the front door wide open, giving the cat a chance for an escape routine. Tragically, the cat gets smothered by a truck and is killed. Sadden, the two best friends, lose hope that they might be fired from their job, if they don't find a solution to their problem, promto.

Then, luckily, Amanda suggest they go to the look-alike cat store in town. They browse hundreds of cats that don't look anything like the road killed Bella of their neighbor's pet. But when the kids stumble into a back room, they discover several cages with the same kind of cat that looked exactly like Bella! But something doesn't seem right with these strange pussy cats. Could it could too real to be true, that these cats could actually be dead?

4.0 out of 5 stars Tantrums of the Terrible Tropopkins, March 30, 2012

This review is from: Stepmonster (DVD)
They prowl on unsuspecting night joggers. Attack youthful newspaper tossers. Snack on delicious hot baby-sitters. What are you gonna do, when word has it, that your Dad's about to marry a devious, tropopkin, from the imagination of a young boy, who feeds off comic book stories? Little does he know, that he will be having a monster for a mother. Of course, his father, doesn't believe him that, it's a creature from a comic book. Tropopkins live in the Cascade Forest, near their home, where the creature is near by. She turns out to the most dashing young woman, Todd's Father has ever laid eyes on her. So, while still being single, with Todd not being okay, with their real Mother still missing, they go on a few dates and hit off to a good start. But the kid, Todd, has a bad feeling about her, as usual, he susepcts that she's one of those Tropopkins that live in the Cascade Forest, near their home.

An order to get some proof, he will need to collect an item from a comic book store. The comic book will have the one and only issue, of a rare special edition, of a comic book, that will tell the boy, how to kill a Tropopkin. It just so happens that Todd's only talent to slaying the creature would be death by a violin, a muscial instrument, that not even himself, could play well at an orchastra. After discovering the Tropopkin's weakeness, Todd deliberately pawns his violen, due to his budget, his baby-sitter refuses to loan him. But soon his Father catches up on his act, and shreds the comic book to pieces, leaving him back to square one, on the saving his family. His Father suggests that he speak to a physicatrist for moral support. Todd ends up having Denis Gore for an interview. Then, she ends up having a late night snack.

Todd ends up battling with Denis the Tropopkin with his Father at the end of the movie. They end up having Father's Day together and go fishing by the lake. Todd's Dad discovers an oil lamp in the middle of the Cascade Forest, where her missing Mother had once been. It leads closer to a cavern near the lake and unravel a secret to their missing mother and other victims of the terrible tropopkin. Todd's Father ends up believing in the power of imagination and go home.

This is a light-hearted B-horror/comedy movie that I remember in the ninties on Disney Channel and will always be a favorite of my movies that can be treasured forever. It's a rare occasion that these kind of movies are hard to find. But once in a moon, you can never trust anyone of being a Tropopkin.
