5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition for any compatible Mountainsmith wait pack., October 4, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mountainsmith Strapettes (Sports)
While I'm not a fan of waist/fanny packs, adding these to a Mountainsmith pack I previously acquired made for a great hot weather hiking bag. Just enough support to keep the pack in place and let my back vent freely to reduce fatigue on 100F summer hikes. Worthwhile addition if you seriously want to use one of the compatible Mountainsmith waist packs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seemed like a fun option, not durable at all., October 4, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
90 seconds of fun.

Relatively quick and easy to operate. Charged it up, connected all the batteries, and set out for some fun with kids at church.

Unfortunately, the rear wheels broke off in the first moments of play (bouncing down carpeted stairs broke off the first wheel and bumping into carpeted stairs took the last wheel off).

One might think this was abusive use, but I can say with honesty that this was typical of any child's use and did not exceed the torture a similar Nikko produst easily survived across years of use.

No parts available as far as I can tell from a brief search on the Web, so I am now going to gut it and see what I can cobble together to get the truck in service with a bit more longevity & toughness.

Glad it was bought on an Amazon deal which greatly reduced the price. However, still a frustrating waste of money - especially if I cannot repair the truck with off the shelf RC car parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good, December 16, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Purchased as a replacement for a Kinvio BT 4.0 adapter that seemed to not like life.

Unlike the Kinvio (which uses the same chipset from what I can tell), this Satechi works well. Using in the USB 3 port on a Dell docking station with a E6430.

Providing reliable and consistent performance to date.

Just one random disconnect to the Logitech K480 keyboard I'm using during two weeks of service at my desk. A welcome contrast to the daily frustrations of the previous unit I was trying to use.

Would buy again/recommend if needed.

Cheap. Good fit. Good grip.

Not much more to ask for there...

3.0 out of 5 stars When it works, it's good., December 3, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Spotty performance when inserted into a USB 3 port, a bit better operation in a USB 2 port.

Random & regular periods of dysfunction requiring powering off the keyboard and the adapter to resume operation.

Using updated drivers from Broadcom on Windows 7 Pro 64B with a Logitech K480 keyboard. Keyboard worked flawlessly with other BT adapters (both built-in and USB like this Kinivo), so this Kinivo is highly suspect...

While somewhat functional, I would be apt to look elsewhere if buying another one. Too much hassle.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, December 3, 2014
Scarpa's Triolet Pro GTX is hard to beat for out of the box comfort, durability, and usefulness in the warmer climate mountaineering use.

I have about 1K miles on my pair from mixed hiking and mountaineering with absolutely no complaints. No hot spots, blisters, or trouble of any sort. Decent with crampons too.

Replace the insoles (like so many boots from any maker, very flimsy insoles provided stock) and you'll be ready to cover the miles.

Grab a pair and enjoy 'em.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth it, greatly enhances mobility., November 18, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Pondered purchasing one of these after breaking my ankle hiking, finally decided to do it, and have no regrets.

While not a high performance piece of engineering, it certainly gets the job done with ease and greatly enhances mobility. Very good value.

My unit arrived in great shape, requiring no special adjustments or fussing to assemble and use. Put it together in minutes. Brake works great.

Does have a bit of wobble in the front wheels (the wheel(s) are not perfectly round so they oscillate a small amount, obviously increasing with speed), so while they work - it can feel a bit concerning if you manage to gain any speed on the cart.

Do take an extra minute or two to tinker with adjusting the height of the handlebars and seat. I had my seat too high initially and it made operating the cart for long periods more tiring/cumbersome. Dropped down one notch and good to go.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad option, October 24, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bought this after breaking my ankle and needed something in backpack form to be more stable while on crutches (vs. my usual messenger style bag).

Functional with reasonable pockets/compartments for the random collection of gear I typically carry including a Pelican 1030 box holding a Microsoft LifeCam, two sets of Allen keys, Leatherman tools, Maglite 2xAA flashlight, Sony earbuds, misc. cables for Cisco/phones/hotspots/etc. - a typical IT worker's assortment of stuff.

And more importantly - an iPad Air & Dell E6430 tuck into the bag nicely with very little concerns for their safety. The edge protection is firm and nice for the laptop, and the tablet is behind the plastic panel (so if the bag is not packed full, the tablet will push back into the pack nicely). Really like the easy to use sleeve holding the laptop into the bag.

Build seems pretty decent too, but haven't had it long enough to confirm durability of materials and construction.

The bad? Heavy. At almost four pounds by itself, the bag turns into a relative anvil on your back...

Good for what it is, I'd buy again/recommend if the need is there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Usable, but definitely lightweight, October 24, 2014
Not a bad option for lighter duty in the woods or occasional rock use.

But, as noted previously, if you are going hard core on verticals or moving through miles of rope up a slope, you will want something more durable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny and more., September 25, 2014
I recently broke my trusty Fenix LD10 flashlight when I fell on some rocks and broke my ankle.

Naturally, I wanted a similar caliber replacement light, but found the newer LD12 a bit too fussy for my tastes.

I enjoyed the LD10 for its robust and easy operation, plus it withstood every drop and tumble up to this last one so it was certainly tough as nails.

The LD09 delivers similar functionality in an even brighter (130 vs. 100 lumen) and less expensive package. Straight forward operation off the tail cap switch for the modes, very stout construction, and includes a nice set of accessories (belt clip, nylon holder, extra O-rings, wrist strap, and two batteries). Excellent bit of kit for not much coin.

Can't beat that. Excellent value compared to the majority of its peers in the market.

Hopefully this light will serve as well as my previous one (and hopefully I won't tumble down rocks & break this one or my ankle!).
