Price: $16.73

5.0 out of 5 stars Great designs but not for beginners, April 3, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The designs hold together well artistically and physically and the tech tips are good. These are not for the beginner, though - too many small pieces and complicated curves. Still, a nice book to have around and aspire to, even if you're not there yet. These designs could be worked in media other than stained glass, too - I think they'd lend themselves nicely to needlepoint.

Word Myths: Debunking Linguistic Urban Legends
Word Myths: Debunking Linguistic Urban Legends

5.0 out of 5 stars Word Myths is a hit., April 3, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I admit to being a word geek. I love the picky nonsense of grammar (and the huge fights that result from it) but most of all, I love a good etymology. Mr. Wilton has done his homework here and it shows. His history is good and his reasoning quite persuasive. I don't know that I've stayed up til the wee smalls reading the origins of common words and phrases very often, but it was definitely worth it for this book. Great fun even for the non-geeky and the simply curious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the greatest marriage of genres, April 3, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love the Ren Faire Mysteries, and I enjoyed this one, too, but not nearly as much as the previous ones. I don't think I'll be giving anything away by saying that the Levenes have added a ghostly element to the story, and it isn't a good fit. I liked the stories just fine the way they were, and it seemed superfluous here, added at the behest of an editor (or, given the new published format, perhaps it frightened the editors away.)

They have another series (that I also love) that has a built-in supernatural element, and I wish they'd left it at that. It fits in the Missing Pieces series, but not here.

That said, I'll still eagerly await the next installment, but I'll truly hope they lose the ghost-y stuff. There was plenty of fantasy already.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only all right, April 1, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've been a fan of this series since the beginning, but my enthusiasm is starting to wane. This installment is considerably darker than the previous ones - and to me, less fun - and the story feels like a retread rather than a brand new outing. If you read the acknowledgments, it explains a great deal, but it doesn't explain why something that isn't top notch gets published just because the deadline looms.

Astral City: A Spiritual Journey (English Subtitled)
Astral City: A Spiritual Journey (English Subtitled)
DVD
Price: $3.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth your time, whatever your beliefs., September 2, 2013
Whether you believe in an afterlife or just believe in the possibility of good cinema, this is film is worth viewing. It's a beautiful piece, important from technical and historical (as in Brazilian films, not necessarily mediumship) aspects, and does present lots of ideas for discussion.

Be forewarned: this film is in Brazilian and subtitled in English, and I certainly can't comment on the accuracy of the translation. The more comfortable you are with that format, the more you can be drawn in by the film.

Whether the Astral City exists, whether or not this tale is drawn from paranormal sources, all of that aside - there are many worse ways to spend an hour. Wagner de Assis is no Ingmar Bergman - at least not yet - but the similarities and some of the vision are there.

My suggestion would be to push your philosophy aside and watch it first as just film, then watch it again and decide how you feel about the subject matter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sewing, Reaping and Managing Your Karma, August 24, 2013
Part of the BioUniversal Energy Series, this book takes on the tricky questions of boundaries between right and wrong in energy work, and explains the nature of karma and the karmic consequences for one's actions. It isn't always clear, particularly to the inexperienced but still capable energy worker, what is acceptable and what constitutes a violation of the rights of others. Just because you *can* do something doesn't mean you *should*.

Ms. Rasbold also explains clearly and concisely how to go about protecting yourself, your home and your loved ones from the negative influences of others, including such topics as psychic attacks, those vague and lingering feelings of unpleasantness in the home, and releasing pools of stagnant energy.

An interesting read, not only for energy workers but for anyone interested in the universal questions of ethics and repercussions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Because Everyone Else Does It This Way..., August 24, 2013
...doesn't mean that that's the most effective way for you, an individual with unique goals and experiences. The Art of Ritual Crafting, another entry in the BioUniversal series, is naturally spiritual but of no specific religion. Rather, Ms. Rasbold here helps us to understand the nature and value of ritual itself, and establish guidelines as to how we might create our own rituals, more powerful and personally meaningful than simply following the steps of the ceremonies of others.

Whether you're a New Age newbie or an old pro at spiritual endeavors, there is something to be gained from this fairly quick but very informative read.

Another offering in the BioUniversal Energy Series, here Ms. Rasbold explains how solar and lunar influences, as well as yearly events and weather, can affect our own personal energies. Now that we've gotten a feel for how BioUniversal energy works from the other books in the series, we can start to expand our knowledge and abilities by taking into account these other variables.

Whether you're an astrologer, an experienced energy worker or a BioUniversal Energy student, there is something useful and thought-provoking here for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical Magic, August 24, 2013
Imagine this situation: You are new to a geographic area, or just an area of interest and you want to start a group for further study and practice. How on earth does one go about forming a group/circle/church? For this exercise, you don't need spiritual advice so much as practical know-how and suggestions from someone experienced in the process. Ms. Rasbold is such a person, and in this short informational booklet, she presents her experiences and insights into how group formation and leadership may be accomplished.

Crossing The Third Threshold
Crossing The Third Threshold
Price: $2.99

5.0 out of 5 stars ...An Encouraging Word, August 24, 2013
While written specifically for the Pagan/Wiccan crowd, this book is also a fascinating read for anyone interested in reading about the unique challenges of group leadership and simultaneous personal growth, and the non-Wiccan will find it quite accessible.

These are the personal memories and stories of someone in The Craft for decades, evocative and compelling. This is not a book that tells the reader how to climb the mountain; this is more a "view from the top". Whether you're an advanced level practitioner, a spiritually evolved non-Craft person or simply a curious bystander, you'll find this book both entertaining and thought-provoking.
