How is anyone going to find the time to sit down and enjoy each of the stories in this imposing edition of Balzac's work? One by one, they elbow their way into our life by grabbing spare minutes and rearranging our day in such a way that gradually reading becomes more relevant. We learn to discard other forms of visual entertainment and opt for our own internal vision of this phenomenal genius' work to pass the time in awe, for his style, his composition, his craft as a novelist are all enthralling. From fifteen to twenty minutes of reading every other day, it's easy to make time if only to remain with the author's creation two to three hours at a time, longing for more each time.

Spectacular! The tremendously influential works of the Age of Enlightenment from the pen of Voltaire in a concise edition. These are delightful and wise tales with philosophical meaning and rooted in the desire to make the world a better place to live. Stories conceived around a sharp eye, a witted tongue and a brilliant pen, all the traits of the immortal genius that was Voltaire. All to be had for less than the cost of a cup of coffee at one of the more ubiquitous establishments around the globe.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Father Knows Best" Meets 'Little House on the Prairie' in the English Countryside, November 4, 2014
It's entertaining in every sense of the word. It's relaxing. It's enjoyable. It's didactic. It's ideal for all who delight in the simple life and a more laid back environment in which to live and raise a family, away from the hustle of modern day living in larger cities and all the rush associated with chasing money today, although even in Lark Rise money remains a concern, yet other issues bear more importance for these neighbors residing in a small hamlet a century ago in the English countryside. The characters feel authentic and their issues are common to all with a heart and a desire to make a better community. The presentation is artful and attentive to the smallest details.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tough Subject With Rewards For All Who Do The Work, September 25, 2014
Emotionally charged, touching, and well-presented versions of addiction with individuals trying to remain sober while some fail to recognize the better versions of themselves they suppress. The film is well acted and the characters come to life. The subject is dark, but the director finds the way to make it entertaining. The script and the acting are worthy of notice. The personal conflicts are real. It should be a must-watch for all in 12 Step programs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever and Intriguing, September 25, 2014
An interesting twist to the Sherlock Holmes classics with full disclosure of being another writer's concept of what the famous detective's youth may have entailed. It's an entertaining movie set in a fantastic environment. Overall an entertaining film everyone will enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Those Baby Blues Will Thrill The Ladies, September 25, 2014
Young Mark Harmon before he was known as Gibbs of NCIS will certainly please the ladies. The plot is twisted enough to make sense and the car chase scenes in San Francisco are classical. The film is amusing and Sean Connery adds class to any movie. Overall it's a fun movie.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sherlock Holmes is Sherlock Holmes is Sherlock Holmes, September 25, 2014
It's an old black and white with some sound trouble, but in the end, it's a Sherlock Holmes movie and it's entertaining. It's also funny to hear British English of half a century ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Focus on the Workings of the Courts, August 27, 2014
A fan of the Perry Mason series as a child, shows of this nature are generally appealing to me, but they also make me more demanding than some. The Escape Artist was a great find. At this point, having watched the only three episodes of the first series currently available on Amazon Prime, it's tantalizing to wait for the rest. Without question, the action is stellar, the plot spectacular and the suspense breathtaking. Let's hope the rest of the episodes in the series live up to the expectations raised by these first three installments.

5.0 out of 5 stars He skillfully depicts the conditions surrounding the social and geopolitical events of his time from the perspective of an intel, August 7, 2014

An impressive work that encompasses a detailed and exhaustive narration of life in Vienna at the turn of the 20th Century, the years prior to WW1, and extend beyond World War 2. It stretches to life in Berlin, Paris, Brussels, London, other regions in Europe and America. Zweig describes the educational system in Vienna and life in general from the perspective of a member of an upper-middle class home of Jewish heritage. He skillfully depicts the conditions surrounding the social and geopolitical events of his time from the perspective of an intelligent, observant, sensitive, and talented young man growing up and attaining a sobering maturity imposed by the unwelcome changes affecting his daily life. It's an interesting and well-threaded account of historical events to educate the reader. Further, juxtaposing events of that era with the conditions of our time, the reader frightfully comes to the realization that if history repeats itself, we may be at the threshold of similarly nefarious consequences unless, as present geopolitical pressures mount, world leaders manage to tone down their bellicose discourse.
