5.0 out of 5 stars How I learned to stop trusting my imagination, May 17, 2006
This review is from: Stumbling on Happiness (Hardcover)
We all spend a great deal of our time envisioning the future. Until I read this book, I thought that I was pretty good at it; after all, I've spent my whole life making decisions based on what I think will make me happy. Having read Stumbling on Happiness, I now realize why I had so much misplaced faith in my imagination--the mind is designed to keep its shortcomings hidden. Not only does Gilbert reveal these systematic flaws, he does so in an incredibly lucid and lively way. His anecdotes make you forget he is presenting research--in fact, they are so entertaining that you hardly realize he is challenging your dearest assumptions about the human mind. To put it bluntly, he turned my world upside-down. Even though Stumbling on Happiness is not a self-help book, it will fundamentally change the way I plan my future.
