3.0 out of 5 stars Yes it is a hard read, July 21, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Just a note to support others here who have suggested this book is a hard read. The first 5 chapters, which make up the introductory section of the book, are especially dry and the wording overly academic. The next section, which moves into more specific topics is slightly better. I am a graduate student and I like to read textbooks so it is especially bad if I can't get through it. There were brief occasions where the text actually used clear language and provided examples and they provided a sad glimpse of how interesting this subject would suddenly become to students given a good introduction. Please consider having these first 5 chapters rewritten for the next edtion!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good book, July 21, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is one of the most readable textbooks I have ever encountered. The writing is amazingly interesting given that it is a general, core subject. The book includes many very up-to-date samples and reads almost like a magazine in places. The only downside for students is that it has a poor resale value compared to other textbooks I have had. Check this out before deciding whether to buy new.

3.0 out of 5 stars Short and reasonable cheap but not fairly interesting, July 21, 2011

I got this for a class. Note this a book about studying leadership, not a book about leadership. It is a primer for those who want to study leadership and bone up on all the academic work to date. It will not teach you how be a leader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still going strong, July 21, 2011
Well, after more than 3 years of use the brush bar stopped spinning this week. The belt was fine and the brush moved easily so I thought "well that's the end of this one". Then I saw the phone number on the handle. I called and got someone on the phone quickly at 7 in the evening. She showed me how to reset it (it's a strange ritual but it works). The whole call took 5 minutes and we're back in business. While it was not working we shopped the cheap brands looking for a replacement. Wow are they thin plastic garbage. This product was easily worth the extra money.
