3.0 out of 5 stars Assembly was no fun., December 23, 2013
The kids (7&11) could not assemble this. Mom tried and failed. Engineer Dad finally got it together in about 3 or 4 hours, despite several errors in the instructions and a few missing or broken pieces. Now that it is together, it runs and is entertaining my son and the cat. I suspect the cat will soon be the only one interested in it.

Parent Warning: If you decide to put this together, get out a magnifying glass, lock yourself in a room, and do some meditation every 30 minutes or so. It requires a lot of patience and concentration.

Very entertaining. I liked putting costumes on the dolphins and teaching them tricks. The other animals are cool to play with, too.

2.0 out of 5 stars designed for people stupid enough to pay to play, December 9, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Unless you pay for extras, this game is pointless and frustrating. Don't waste your time. It's not worth the twenty minutes it takes to download the whole app.

2.0 out of 5 stars regrettably poor war game, March 5, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rommel in Africa (App)
I have played war games for 20 years, and playing "Rommel in Africa" was one of my least enjoyable experiences. Granted, this game is inexpensive, however your investment in time will ultimately result in regret.

Documentation is pitiful. The map shows much detail but no legend is offered. It is impossible to figure out what happens on a turn by turn basis. I understand and appreciate the fog of war concept, especially in desert warfare. But this game makes it impossible to know what's going on - which makes it impossible to learn how to play. You will often lose units to an enemy you never see, and the game offers no explanation for what went on.

Control is extremely clunky. You'll likely play several games, moving things to the wrong places by mistake before you'll figure out what you're doing wrong. Even after you think you've got it figured out, you'll often try to pan the screen and mistakenly move a unit into the middle of the desert.

Both combat and movement rules are grossly oversimplified. You can not combine units into one attack. I guess Mr. DK thinks that never happens in military engagements.

The addition of air warfare was so idiotically simplified, it just detracts from the game. Here, air warfare feels like deus ex machina, not a tactical element of warfare.

Objectives and victory conditions are nebulous, if not downright baffling. I've played the first scenario as the Italians several times, and although I had results ranging from sweeping the British of the map, to losing all my units (I was pretty much doing the same thing every time), the reported result was always the same - minor Italian victory!

I find it pointless to continue. I will not waste any more time on this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars useless instruction booklet, January 28, 2012
For some reason I cannont fathom, the instruction booklet contains no instructions, just indecipeherable swirly lines that do not help figure out what to do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning - does not work on a Wii (at least not mine), January 11, 2012
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Did not run. After selecting a character, the screen froze. Would not respond to any control. Tried it several times and got same result. All I could do is power off the Wii and restart the system. Made sure I had most current system updates, but to no avail.

I don't know if this game runs on other platforms, but if you have a Wii, don't waste your time with this product.
