5.0 out of 5 stars An Rigorous yet Approachable Introduction to Quantum Physics For Non-Physics and Physics Majors, April 8, 2008
This review is from: Modern Physics (Hardcover)
I approached this book as a university student taking Modern Physics. For those who don't know, 'Modern' Physics is labeled as such because the discovery of Relativity, Quantum Theory and the Nuclear atom developed out of the early 1900's... the so-called 'Modern' era.

Topics are especially geared towards those entering graduate fields other than physics who want to learn more. Sample topics:
Magnetism as a Relativistic Effect
Interaction of Radiation with Matter - Spectroscopy
Fluorescence in Biological Systems and Membrane Research
Nuclear Reactors: the events at Chernobyl are described in detail
The Design and Use of Lasers
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The Conduction of Electricity in Solids and Semiconductor Devices

The textbook we are using in class is very terse with little practical application or insight. This book greatly increased my understanding of my lab and lecture classes as an undergraduate Physics major.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Blues Piano book I've seen., December 2, 2005
I think anybody who wants to play blues piano wants to know not just that a standard 12 bars progression is C7 F7 C7, etc... but we all know playing those full chords sounds silly, and if you try to play that in a band situation you'll never be called back.

Musicians want to know what different ways they can play those notes on their left hand, and good solid advices for 'riffs', turnarounds, etc. This book excels at giving practical techniques. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book For Someone Going From Photoshop to 3d!, April 29, 2005
Cinema 4d is great for any design-oriented individual who is more comfortable with bezier curves than Hypershades and Non Uniform Rational B-Splines. Other 3d programs do more, but Cinema 4d is written with the graphics designer in mind.

So it should come of little wonder that eventually a very good designer would share their experiences with this program. Along comes Anne Powers.

Exceptionally well written. Most books leave you scratching your head after successfully animating a bouncing ball and making a pathetic rocket ship... This is a cookback of different recipes, each giving you a starting point for your own exploration.
