Once Upon A Choice
Once Upon A Choice
by Linda Lee Smigel
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars It's in the cards, May 8, 2012
This review is from: Once Upon A Choice (Paperback)
The sign of a good book to me is missed appointments and lost sleep. Once you start reading this story, don't plan on doing much else until you are finished. And when you get into the last 1/3rd, nothing else is going to matter until you are done.
Besides a fascinating storyline, I appreciated the remarkable use of analogies. I'm tempted to share one here to make my point, but that would spoil the fun of finding it where it belongs. There are dozens thruout the book. I enjoyed finding these gems and spending a few moments pondering the unique turn of phrase and artistic genius. I believe it is important to stop and appreciate these little treasures, because I feel that opens more neural pathways and makes me more creative.
The book is an absolute delight, and comes complete with some really hot scenes!

Oh, yeah. After you read this book, you next stop will be to learn about Tarot cards!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining! One of the best!, March 23, 2011
This review is from: Cloud Atlas: A Novel (Paperback)
Probably the most entertaining book that I have read in the past decade. Mitchell is an extremely clever author. I won't spoil it, but the reader is in for a huge surprise early on. After that, you might as well accept that this book will be your whole life until you finish it.

free radicals, enzymes and anti-oxidants, which is critical to understand for improved health. The Doctor lays out guidelines for changing habits and diet. Some of the recommended changes will be easy to implement (for me). More veggies, more grains, less meat, and start drinking Kangen water will be easy. More exercise - OK. Eliminating chocolate, coffee, smoking and alcohol...well, those will be challenges.
How to prepare and cook your food to protect the enzymes is also discussed.
This book was a gift to me, an I am very grateful to the person who gave it to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars His Honor does a masterful job of detailing, February 20, 2008
the nuts-and-bolts of a local campaign. And Judge Grey is blunt about the tribulations a first-time candidate is about to experience.

If you are running for local office, you can't afford not to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're a candidate, or if you're working for a candidate,, February 20, 2008
then you need to read this book and hope that your competition doesn't.

Whether you're new to politics or have been involved for years, this book will educate you on the most efficient campaign tactics, and where you should focus your precious time and resources.

Green and Gerber present scientific studies that show what a complete waste of time and money certain widely-used campaign tactics are, while other less-utilized maneuvers are proven to be highly effective.

This book is often cited on political discussion blogs, and for good reason.

The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success
The 100 Absolutely Unbreakable Laws of Business Success

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been a student of Brian Tracy for over a decade, and, February 20, 2008
his ability to distill life-altering concepts into digestable insights is among the very best. There are hundreds of motivational speakers and writers, but Tracy is one of the most efficient at conveying his message in an understandable format.
The 100 Unbreakable Laws of Business Success presents time-tested truths in an easy-to-read style. Many of these concepts are not Tracy's. He merely introduces fundamental principles developed by other great thinkers and dishes them up in comprehensible chunks. It's like getting the philisophies of Earl Nightengale, Ben Franklin, and other giants compressed into one actionable book.
If one could simply maintain the discipline to read and meditate on one of these laws every week, the benefits would begin to manifest immediately, and after two years, the reader would be astonished at the results.

5.0 out of 5 stars I saw the movie, then read the book., February 7, 2008
I've found that is a better order than the reverse.
Dubus takes an unforgivable govenment mistake, mixes in a breathtaking lack of responsibility on the part of a depressed woman, throws in a pathetic, self-centered cop, and creates one page-turner of a novel!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lot's of helpful info, but, February 7, 2008
don't let this be your only source. I used it more of a starting point for further research.

This passage reassured me when I read it in the Foreword: "Many of our authors work undercover; others aren't so secretive. None of them accept freebies for positive write-ups."
