4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Light... But Not Ideal..., July 10, 2011
These are two awesome night lights! They are shaped like lava lamps and have some weight to them. There are a few pros and cons with this lava light to be aware of; but overall they are a great novelty night light.

The LED Lava night light is shaped like a Lava Lamp. Instead of a light sensor it goes for the traditional on/off switch. This is a good thing as it seems those sensor based night lights never work as intended. The bulb is a single high intensity LED located inside the lava tub. The bubbles inside do not move, and unlike a normal lava lamp these night lights do not get hot even after 10+ hrs of use.

LED Light
The LED cycles through 8 colors following a set pattern. The light emitted during this pattern is actually pretty bright except for Red** (See below). The LED itself will probably last you around 5 years before it begins to dim/fail if all goes smooth.

The light itself is an awesome novelty item. The cycling colors and design make it look like a mini lava-lamp, and it produces a nice bright light. The problem is that the light is also bright and with the rotating spectrum of colors it could end up being more distracting than good. **When RED shows up, the room will dip to nearly pitch black before returning to being softly lit; when combined with the rotating colors this can be distracting to sleep with.

As a night light to "Sleep" with, this might be a bit much. As a night light to use to light a hallway or bathroom this is 95% perfect. The rotating colors and novelty will liven up the room or hallway. That 5% I left off... just don't be walking down the hall when it switches to Red. A really nice pair of "novelty" night lights... but in the end they are not exactly practical

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Light But Poor Sensor, July 10, 2011
The LED night light being offered by Walter Drake is a model similar to other brands out there. This actually was purchased to replace a few failing LED night lights I had gotten a while back, and I was surprised how similar it was to another brand I own. In fact it shares some of the problems as well!!

LED Light
The LED gives off an Icy Blue hue... It isn't the brightest I've seen, but the night light does a fine job lighting up a bathroom or hallway. The LED itself is a lower power LED that produces light within a plastic case. The case is what amplifies the light around the night light. The bulbs themselves definitely could last you a solid 100,000 hrs with general use(10 years about); problem is that the sensor is what holds these night lights back from being quality.

Similar to another brand that I purchased, the sensor used to control the lights is very poor. In fact out of the packs I got (each order is a 2pk) they all had the light sensor facing a different way!? That means each night light sensor is working 4 different ways. What did this yield... 2 lights that work w/o problems; one light is extremely sensitive(turns itself on even during the daytime since the sensor is pointing DOWN); and one sensor that seems to fit both criteria.

This is a problem for me. While the lights themselves have held up fairly well and whenever it gets dark at night they will light up to full intensity, the sensor placement is clearly causing problems with two of the lights.

These are not bad at all for night lights. They seem built solid and have lasted quite some time for me. The amount of light they put out for the price easily makes them 5 stars ($6 nets you 2 lights). Problem here is that the sensor is not the best for this light. Seeing as how the sensor was in 4 different position on 4 different lights can be a problem. Each light will behave differently and thus create sensitivity problems. The good thing is the sensor at least seems quality so it won't burn itself out on you

In short.. Good night light but is held back by bad quality control on the sensor installment; which can lead to sensitivity problems.

2.0 out of 5 stars Simple Night Light.. Bad Sensor..., July 10, 2011
What we have here is a 4pk of Maxxima LED Night Light w/ auto sensors. There is no On/Off switch, just a light sensor that turns the device on if it is dark enough. The lights are very simple in design. A single low power LED illuminates and the plastic enclosure amplifies the light. What you get is an ultra low power LED night light that barely uses any power and thus will save you on your electric bill. However, despite this low power design... it is the design itself that ends up being flawed.

LED Bulb
The color of light you will get is a soft icy blue hue. It is fairly bright but will have a blue hue to it rather than a natural white. The Bulbs themselves are definitely 100,000hr LED's but still two of the lights didn't last me more than 3 months... this leads me to the more important subject about these lights; the sensor.

After a few months of use I noticed one of the lights got dimmer w/o anything being done. Out of curiosity I switched it with a working one and sure enough the working one produced ample light. Replaced the dim one and then put a towel over the sensor and BOOM bright as it could be. Remove the towel and it dims. This testing was done late at night with no lights on in the room. I figured it was just a bad sensor but shortly afterwards another light began to go bad.

Another problem is over sensitivity. Either the sensor seems to not work well at all, or works "too good". The two that work are over sensitive and only turn off when I shine a bright light directly at it; Even with my bathroom light turned on.

As a night light, the Maxxima brand LED w/ Light Sensor is not bad for the price. You get 4 of them and when operating properly they emit a nice level of soft icy blue LED light. As a night light I would normally give these 5 stars; but in the end they just get 2. The sensor on them just isn't built well and seems to burn itself out over long use. While the LED itself might last you 10+ years the sensor operating the light may only last a year or two it seems. Not exactly saving you money if you have to keep going out to buy more.

In short.. they produce nice illumination when fully on, but have a terrible sensor that leads to faulty units and reduced performance/longevity

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful and Fast Paced Book..., July 7, 2011
The Lightning Thief is the first book in a 5 book set called Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The book is ranged for grades 5-9 (age 9-12) but just like Harry Potter, it is a book that can span all ages. With simple writing and a fast pace flow, "The Lightning Thief" ends up becoming a classic fantasy book about Greek Mythology, adventure and mystery; perfect for kids and adults.

Without giving away any of the storyline(Simplified): The Lightning Thief is about a boy named Percy Jackson, whom at first seems like an average kid. It doesn't take long for the pacing to pick up, and the fantasy begins as it turns out Percy is a demigod; the offspring of a Greek God. However Percy is different than all the other demigod's out there, a rare demigod you could say. This makes him a target not only of other gods but of monsters that roam the world. To make matters worse a crime has been committed in Olympus and Percy is framed! Thus starts an epic quest for Percy to set out and clear his name while trying to restore order in Olympus before war breaks out amongst the gods.

Despite being designed as a book for kids, it can easily be enjoyed by adults. The story is written so that it is extremely easy to follow while remaining a bit of a mystery as to what is going on. All the clues are there but like any good mystery it might be difficulty to piece them together. The pacing of the book also works in its favor. There are almost no dull parts to speak of. This is 375 pages(Library Bound edition) of adventure and action flowing nonstop. I found once I started to read the book I just could not put it down, breezing through it in three casual sittings, with every page and chapter drawing me in more and more. It was very hard to put the book down, and I am sure kids will be even more obsessed!

OVERALL this is a great book to own and/or read. I love Greek Mythology and Rick Riordan manages to revive the mythology in a perfect way for kids, while giving everything its own modern spin. While the book is adventurous and exciting there is also an educational element here...helping kids learn a little more about ancient Greek mythology. A simple, easy to follow story that has almost no dull moments, easy to follow dialogue and a great feeling of fantasy, mythology and adventure all wrapped into one; This is a book well worth reading!

*NOTE: I received my copy as part of a Library/School Bound Hardcover Boxset. The Library bound hardcover is excellent quality with an extremely durable binding. The pages are thicker than normal to resist tearing and the print is in easy to read, large font.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Seinfeld Collection..., July 6, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Complete Series set for Seinfeld is easily the Ultimate set to own if you are a fan of the show. This set delivers on so many levels it is mind blowing. This easily is the must have set for any Seinfeld fan.

Seinfeld was a show that ran from 1990 - 1998 ( 9 seasons ). The show rarely had any sort of storyline in place, and when it did the storyline only ran a few episodes at most. Seinfeld beautifully executed a show basically about NOTHING! That's right. This show is about nothing... otherwise known as "every day life". Throw in some extremely well written comedy and very memorable characters, and it is no surprise that this show is up there as one of the great TV classics of all time. All the characters flow so well together, the most ridiculous things could happen and it is just downright hysterical. One of my personal favorites is when Jerry & the gang meet "Bizarro Jerry" like Superman and Bizarro Superman.

Anyhow, this boxset pays homage to this true classic of a show by going the extra mile with both presentation and quality. There are almost no CONS to this set. The set comes in a large 10.5 inches tall box with a picture of the main cast on the front. Inside the standup case is three items of interest

1. Seinfeld: The Coffee Table Book. As seen in Seinfeld, the epic Coffee Table book about Coffee Tables... this book essentially recreates that moment. It is hardbound book (Faux Leather I believe) with gold leaf and etchings on it. Inside is your complete Episode guide(laminated for protection) & a Full color book containing memorable quotes and moments from each episode in the show. It also contains bio's on the cast and a few extras such as letters to NBC about the show.

2. "The Round-Table" DVD found at the back of the Hardcover book; which is an hour long interview with the cast and creator
3. Faux Leather case for Seasons 1-5 & 6-9

Each disk has a color image of the staring cast on it and is held in a thin plastic disk-holder. The episodes are arranged by chronological order instead of air-date. Each disk contains additional bonus features; bonus features, alternative takes, etc.

As you can see this boxset is truly a COMPLETE edition. There is so much going on here it is amazing. The case and quality of the materials is outside and the set goes above and beyond to satisfy any die-hard fan of the show. The only real negative I see to this entire set is how the DVD's are stored. Each DVD is held in a thin(1/4 inch thick) plastic Disk holder flip book... 8 disks per side. Compared to the rest of the set this just seems very cheap and flimsy; especially after how much quality went into everything else. Despite my concerns, with just a little extra care when removing a disk, the set has held up exceptionally well over the past 2 years I have owned it.

OVERALL this set is just magnificent and happens to be the most beautiful DVD boxset that I own. While the price is a bit steep, I feel that this boxset is worth paying the extra $$ for. It truly is a complete set and does the show justice. 5 stars!!!

**NOTE: Recently the price fluctuates heavily for this item. Keep an eye on the item and wait for Amazon to hold a DVD blowout sale. You might be able to save upwards of 50-60% against retail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Roughnecks...The Almost Complete Saga..., July 6, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles aired in 1999 following the success of the Starship Troopers(1997) movie. What we have here is an adaption of the book done completely in CGI. At the time the effects were pretty good for a simple show on TV. Despite having a dated look by today's standards, the show has a great story which will please Sci-fi fans and fans of Starship Troopers alike. Every episode is packed with adventure and paced well. Once you start watching you probably won't be able to stop!

This boxset gives you all the campaigns in 4 DVD-Slim cases.

DVD 1 - Pluto and Hydra Campaign (Special Features - Photo Galleries)
DVD 2 - Tophet and Tesca Campaign (Special Features - Photo Galleries)
DVD 3 - Zephyr and Klendathu Campaign (Special Features - Photo Galleries)
DVD 4 - Tracks and Homefront Campaign (Special Features - 4 Bonus episodes; Pluto And Beyond/Propaganda Machine/Marooned/Court-Martial of Lt. Razak)

There are PROS and CONS to owning this set, with some of the CONS holding it back from being a 5 star boxset.

- All 8 Campaigns in one affordable package (Easily will save you $50+ vs buying them separately)
- Contains 4 bonus episodes** (Details below)
- Collectable fold-out Illustration/poster
- Campaign is organized by chronological order to make it easier to view / follow the storyline
- 5.1 Dobly Digital audio

- Standard 4:3 cut instead of a 16:9 transfer(The show was originally processed in, 4:3 so in a way it retains its original look)
- No Subtitles or additional language support
- Not Entirely a "COMPLETE set". This set leaves off episode 33 and the final 3 episodes of the show. The reason for this is that the show got cancelled after 36 episodes, with episodes 33, 38-40 never being produced. ** The BONUS episodes are re-uses of old footage to allow the creators to fulfill the contract of 40 episodes and do not continue the storyline
- SPECIAL FEATURES are reduced vs the individual releases
- Lack of any sort of behind the scenes/making of featurettes

The CONS to this set are not really bad so to say, but do prevent it from being called a "complete" collection. What we have here is an efficient re-boxing of the DVD's with some features missing. In doing so, you get a package that is chronologically organized for you by campaign, and take up far less space in your collection.

Despite the flaws in the "complete campaigns" edition this is a must by for a fan of the movie, the show when it was on TV, or even the book. It is a boxset that is great for a simple collection providing you with the entire show in one easy packaging. However, if you are looking for the TRUE complete experience then purchasing each campaign separately would be the way to go.
OVERALL ... 5 Stars for the show... 4 stars for the boxset

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Pack For A Fan..., July 3, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What we have here is a "Franchise" pack for Riddick. Essentially it is all current installments of Riddick's adventures boxed into one complete set. Includes is Pitch Black, Dark Fury and The Chronicles of Riddick.

The package I received contained two disks.

DISK 1: Pitch Black & Dark Fury.
This disk contains the movie Pitch Black and the short Anime, Dark Fury which acts as a bridge between Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. Both movies are unrated and contain additional footage compared to the rated release. A variety of bonus features are present on the disk including The Making of Pitch Black, how Dark Fury bridges the gap between the movies, Commentary with a variety of the cast and crew.

DISK 2: The Chronicles of Riddick
This disk contains the unrated version of Chronicles of Riddick. This movie gives more back story into Riddick as well as provide some form of closure for the character. Included on the disk are bonus features; Deleted scenes, How they did the Visual Effects, Audio commentary and a few other small featurettes.

OVERALL this is a nice pack that brings both movies and the bridging anime episode together into one set. The movies are both presented Anamorphic Widescreen while Dark Fury is Standard Widescreen. All three are in Dobly 5.1 and visually look great. A perfect set to add to a collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Stargate Movie Package..., July 3, 2011

This review is from: Stargate (Ultimate Edition) (DVD)
** This is a Review for the DVD Ultimate Edition **

Stargate(1994) managed to merge Egyptology with Science Fiction, creating a unique look at ancient Egyptian gods. While the movie is not perfect it proved to be a great hit amongst the sci-fi fans and spawned a number of shows; including the extremely popular Stargate SG-1 which ran 10 seasons. This Ultimate Edition DVD almost gives you the Ultimate experience of the movie, but falls short in a few areas that holds it back from being a 5 star DVD.

Almost everything is here with this DVD. The movie was completely remastered in 16:9 widescreen and re-cut into an Extended Edition. The audio and music has been remastered and now supports 5.1 Dobly and 6.1 DTS. Throw in Audio commentary with the Director and Producer, and a small Featurette: "Is there a Stargate" and you have quite a nice package. The remastered movie looks great on my 1080p upscaling DVD player, looking crisp and sounds great!

To use the term "ultimate" edition might be pushing it. I was a little let down over the lack of bloopers/gags and the lack of deleted scenes. While they did provide an extended cut I just have this feeling there are more scenes left out. Also the lack of behind the scenes and interviews is a let down; especially when this is supposed to be the "ultimate" edition.

Despite missing some bonus features the movie itself is great! You are getting a remastered, extended version of the film that will look excellent on DVD. Even with the lack of bonus features this still is the DVD to own for the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Visionary Sci-Fi That Will Stand The Test of Time..., July 2, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
** This is a Review for the 4-Disc Box set **

Blade Runner is a masterpiece of a movie which presents a fantastic sci-fi vision of the future; that over 30 years later still stands strong. The movie has a very "cyber-punk" feel to it, and does an exceptional job of integrating the viewer into this visionary style of the future.

For those unfamiliar with Blade Runner; The Movie is about a man named Deckard who specializes in hunting "Replicants". A Replicant is essentially a clone of a human that has a fixed lifespan and exists in off-world colonies. Well A bunch of Replicants have escaped and come to Earth and it is Deckard's job to hunt down these replicant's and kill them. In doing so this tests Deckard's understanding of what it means to be human and the value of life.

This is a movie that in 1982 was ahead of its time, a brilliant masterpiece that perfectly molds Science Fiction, Drama, and Detective work together. What the 4 Disk Collectors Edition contains is a vast amount of bonus content that will please any Blade Runner fan, and make a great piece in a movie collection.

Disk 1: The Final Cut(2007) This is a completely restored version of the movie. Digitally Restored and Remastered, this version contains additional footage over the director's cut and even improves upon the special effects. The soundtrack has also been remastered in 5.1

Disk 2: Dangerous Days This disk contains the Making of Blade Runner. Everything from outakes, deleted scenes, set creation and interviews can be found on this disk

Disk 3: Archival Versions This disk contains the 1982 US, International Versions, as well as the 1992 Director's Cut all on a single disk. You can view each separately or chose to seamlessly integrated them together to form one Ultimate Director's Cut edition.

Disk 4: Enhancement Archive This disk contains Audiovisual mosaics, Production footage, and how they did restoration of the movie on DVD for the Final Cut.

** OVERALL this is a fantastic Collector's Edition that will make any Blade Runner fan's day. Not only do you get a final cut of the film, completely restored... but tons of behind the scenes and making of featurettes, as well as a copy of every previous release (the 1982 original and 1992 director's cut). A fantastic, visionary film that was given a true Collector's Edition Box set. 5 stars!

*NOTE: Blade Runner - The Final Cut (Two-Disc Special Edition) contains Disk 1 and Disk 2 of this set
*NOTE: Blade Runner (Five-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition) or Blade Runner (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray] contains Disks 1-4 and Disk 5 contains a workprint version of the film. The "workprint" version is a very different cut of the film, with a different opening, sound track and much more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Godzilla Arrives With Both Hits and Misses In This Boxset..., July 2, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The 7-pack Godzilla DVD set has a total of 9 Godzilla movies within this set. Overall you are getting quite a few Godzilla flicks for around $10 per movie (as of 7/2/2011), but not everything is as golden as it may seem with this boxset of movies.

It is Godzilla. If you love Godzilla then this boxset is going to be awesome! You get 9 action packed flicks. Godzilla vs King Ghidora / Godzilla and Mothra: Battle for Earth / Godzilla vs Space Godzilla / Godzilla vs Destroyah / Godzilla(1998) / Godzilla 2000 / Godzilla: Giant Monsters all out attack / Godzilla vs Megaguirus and Godzilla against Mechagodzilla.

This selection is a nice compilation of Godzilla movies from around 1991 - 2002. The movies are mainly the modern era of Godzilla and take advantage of improved special effects. The Packaging of the DVD's is fairly simple. Each movie has its own box except for the double feature movies (Godzilla vs Ghidora/Battle for Earth and Godzilla vs SpaceGodzilla/Destroyah). These double features come on a two sided DVD. If you do not own any Godzilla movies on DVD then this set is perhaps the best one to start with.

All Out Monsters Attack, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and Godzilla vs Megaguirus have all been fully remastered in High-Definition. They also can be watched in Japanese w/ English Subtitles

For all the simple good there is about this boxset (I mean come on... this is Godzilla we are talking about here) there is some bad. While you are getting 9 movies on DVD the quality of the DVD's leaves something to be desired. The first double feature ( King Ghidora and Battle for Earth ) is not in true widescreen but standard 4:3 copy as seen on TV/VHS. To make matters worse the only two movies to contain any sort of Bonus Features / Additional Content are Godzilla(1998) and Godzilla(2000). The two double feature disks are simply standard DVD releases with no remastering and English Dub only.

While all these problems are not major issues, more like disappointments; the biggest train wreck here is the inclusion of Godzilla(1998). This movie just flat out doesn't belong with this set. Godzilla(1998) has nothing to do with Godzilla as it just shares the same name. It would of been better to drop Godzilla(1998) and include bonus features for the rest of the movies, or perhaps just a bonus disk containing all sorts of interviews and behind the scenes looks at the various Godzilla movies. Or better yet, another actual Godzilla movie.

This boxset is not terrible in anyway. You are getting 9 movies here at a decent enough price. The set makes for a great gift for a Godzilla fan to add to the collection. The movies themselves are anywhere from Fair to AWESOME!! with Godzilla(1998) the only bad movie of the bunch. Despite lots of good with this boxset; The lack of special features on many of the movies, total lack of transfer on 2 of the movies, and inclusion of Godzilla(1998) over another Godzilla movie or bonus features hurts the score in the end.

What was a 4 star quality boxset I feel is more like a 3 star set in the end. While not perfect, the set still brings you 8 awesome authentic Godzilla movies and 1 Americanized Godzilla movie. Just understand there is going to be a lack of special/bonus features as well as 4 of the movies having no remastering at all done to them so they will look a little dated.
