This review is from: Labor Day (Amazon Instant Video)
Poignant, profound, and moving, LABOR DAY has all of the perfect ingredients for a love story. It is well-written, well-acted, and it has so much heart. Great casting and setting, scenes that move plot and develop ever-deepening character. I will watch this movie many times, each time taking something new away from it. The only thing that threw me was the title. I know why they called it that, but it didn't contribute to how fine this movie really is. Get out the tissues. This is one memorable film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sophisticated Crime Thriller with Hot Romance - Five Stars!, March 16, 2015

People are pursuing the heroine and she doesn't know why. They are chasing her, threatening her, and shooting at her. Everyone from law enforcement to villains want one thing from her: information. But it's information she doesn't have. The spunky, savvy redhead with the little pink gun is in trouble, big trouble. As the mystery unravels, chapter by chapter, the twists and turns get more and more suspenseful. And the romance heats up, too. Nothing could have prepared me for the ending--it was a stunning conclusion. Set on a Mississippi gambling riverboat, this sophisticated crime thriller has many layers of story and I enjoyed it very much. It was a page-turner that kept me up all night reading it. Romantic suspense fans, you are in for a treat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic, unforgettable, riveting, profound! A must read. Five stars., February 11, 2015

Where are the final coins that William Barrow (aka Judas Iscariot) so desperately needs to hopefully redeem himself after two thousand years of tortured immortality?

VICTORY OF COINS is the final adventure in the hunt for the thirty shekels. I have been riveted to this series from the first book. The stunning conclusion to the seven-book series leaves no doubt in my mind that this is one of the most carefully plotted series I have ever read. To take the most reviled man in Christian New Testament history and turn him into an immortal who is tasked with gathering up the 30 betrayal coins has been an incredible ride through the two-thousand-year tribulations of a spiritual criminal. William Barrow / Judas is often his own worst enemy, but he has others after him, too. Dark ones.

Add in a mysterious letter that poses a mystery and riddles from someone who mocks him with clues he cannot unravel. VICTORY OF COINS contains journeys of many miles, and of hearts. It is not enough to have the task of dealing with the last of the coins -- someone evil is coming for William / Judas.

The story is heart-wrenching, devastating, and progressive toward a hopeful redemption for his high crime against Jesus.

This entire satisfying series is a must-read. Like the other books in the series, VICTORY OF COINS is a five-star read that shook me to the core.

Highly recommended and unforgettable! It has been an epic ride through time and a quest for a reviled immortal to seek the answers to all the mysteries--spiritual and tangible--that tie in with what happened to the 30 coins that Judas received for the betrayal of Jesus. What did happen to them, by the way? This entire series is one stunning what-if adventure, and one that struck my heart with equal parts of hope and compelling desire to see what path such a fallen man would take. Victory of Coins is a parable of much of what humans fear in their darkest moments. -- Eve Paludan

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect. Close., December 24, 2014
Although the success of that bestseller book happened way too fast, I could get past that unlikely part. What threw me was the twist at the end, which was not well done. With a different ending, this could have been an astounding movie. The cast was pretty good. I enjoyed seeing Frances Conroy as the literary agent. She was very good and made me long to see her in other things. I've been a fan of hers since Six Feet Under and she played this movie role with sincerity and aplomb. Rob Lowe lacked warmth, but that was the character he played and he did it well. The little girl was so good.

EDDIE EARTH AND THE SOLAR SYSTEM is April M. Reign's first foray into books for kids. She really nails it with an adorable and entertaining journey through the solar system with Eddie Earth as the guide. The text is all in rhyme and contains interesting facts about each planet. The drawings are wonderful and the text fits it well. This is an entertaining read-to story for preschoolers and young children in first through third grade can read it for themselves. Engaging artwork and entertaining story is a great launch for the series. Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful spine-tingling thriller kept me riveted, November 17, 2014
Suspenseful spine-tingling serial killer thriller kept me riveted to the pages. The characters are interesting and well-drawn. The plot is layered and complex. The action scenes are particularly good. The graphic violence is disturbing and at times, demented, but realistic, and chillingly so. There is a good balance of chemistry and conflict, good and evil. I enjoyed getting to know the hero, Jake Roberts, who is the star of the series, as well as the supporting cast. The author knows guns and investigative procedures. He also knows the criminal mind and writes it well. Recommended if you enjoy murder mystery thrillers with edgy violence and cliffhanger endings to each chapter that kept me turning the pages until the stunning conclusion!

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful, clickable, indispensable reference for writers and editors! Five stars!, November 13, 2014
QUICK CLICKS: WORD USAGE is a very useful and clickable grammar and style reference for fiction writers and editors (of American and Canadian English). Renner's book contains invaluable information, tips, and examples.

QUICK CLICKS: WORD USAGE includes great style tips with fun examples that answer some of writers' most common questions and some that aren't so common, but still things that writers truly need to know in order to polish their work. By the way, this is not a boring book. Renner injected a little humor here and there that kept me reading!

There's a slick glossary and a "translation" of Canadian/American v. British expressions that I will definitely use often. Author Jodie Renner explains how to correctly use italics and many more indispensable pieces of writerly wisdom. I'll be using this book again and again for my fiction writing and also, my editing for my clients. QUICK CLICKS: WORD USAGE is a professional writers' and editors' reference. Highly recommended and a solid five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality writing, casting, acting, and cinematography, November 12, 2014
Quality writing, casting, acting, and cinematography make this a winner. I was surprised to see Jennifer Lopez in this movie. She didn't seem like a good fit at first, but she was superb. As was Morgan Freeman and the inimitable Robert Redford. Great child actor, Becca Gardner, too. Like a young Natalie Portman, she will go far. Very far. I can't think of one thing that would make this movie any better. I liked every moment of it. I think there was humor, even without funny lines. Robert Redford on a bicycle when his truck breaks down, for instance. And the subtle details, such as that none of the cats had names, but the horse did. His name was Jimmy. =) A wonderful film. Please watch it and encourage the making of more films like this. This film never loses sight of the goals of the characters. Each of them have their own demons to battle, and only together will they get through the hard times. I will watch this again, the next time to deconstruct in my mind how scenes should begin and end. Everything in this movie will stay with me. Kudos.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gritty urban fast-paced investigative mystery of a missing stripper, kidnapping and corruption., October 26, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A gritty urban fast-paced investigative mystery of a missing stripper and kidnapping exposes shocking and sometimes graphic violence and a very deep well of corruption, even in unexpected places. The book is written in a "Pulp Fiction" style that flits from character to character, showing what's happening away from the eyes of the hero and then touches base back at his investigation before charging into the villains' action again. And in that same writing style, the story comes together and the pieces of the puzzle start clicking together. The book is well crafted, keeping the investigator just a step behind the madness of the evil that pervades an Indiana city. The investigation flies at a pace that kept me turning the pages. The "Circle" is definitely made up of hell-on-wheels criminals. Bad guys you will love to hate, and dames in distress. A hero worth launching a series for. Five stars.
