The Witch of Endor
The Witch of Endor

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling Christian novel about fighting a legacy of witchcraft. Five stars!, May 23, 2015
The Witch of Endor is a compelling, thoughtful Christian novel about a woman who is trying to break a legacy of witchcraft in her family. Soon, it will be her turn and she struggles with a sense of duty to her dying grandmother and her growing wisdom in the Christian faith. And then, there is some cursed gold to deal with as well as accusations against her grandmother and a young man who may be convicted of a murder. There is international intrigue, too, which was unexpected, but fit the novel very well as the heroine, a visitor to Endor, Israel tries to make sense of her dying grandmother's world and stop evil from taking over her family. There is a lot to think about in this novel, from temptation, to trust, to making choices. A solid YA Christian novel that speaks to the side of goodness and light. I enjoyed it very much. Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant page-turner. A thrill ride of a modern vampire’s struggle to survive. Five stars!, May 22, 2015

P.J. Day's MUSINGS OF A POSTMODERN VAMPIRE is not just a compelling look at corporate society through the eyes of Jack King, a 140-year-old vampire who can only exist in the modern world by blending in. The novel is also an intriguing international adventure for a vampire who must keep his secret life a secret. Blending in with human society involves working for a genetics tech company. Jack King has a lucrative career, a car payment and a lonely heart. He's got good friends, but no girlfriend.

Then Jack meets Holly, a clever, stunning commercial photographer. Unfortunately, what should have been a romantic first date is interrupted for a noble cause. Then, their second date gets preempted by Jack’s urgent business trip to Hong Kong.

Jack is usually in control of every situation, but events begin to spiral out of control on the international business trip. His best friend and co-worker becomes less than reliable, and lies upon lies begin to set off Jack’s inner alarms.

When Holly shows up to keep their second date, things get even more complicated. Jack's secret life is suddenly in danger, and the pace ramps up in Hong Kong into a pulse-pounding adventure and an incredible fight for Jack's "life" at any cost.

P.J. Day writes a clever, original and intelligent what-if story that takes a decent-guy vampire to the absolute limits of his powers and his intellect--and to the depths of his deep, dark vampire heart.

The book has gripping adventure, heartfelt romance, suspense and conflict, betrayal, wickedly fun pursuit scenes and believable, colorful characters. Woven inside the carefully crafted plot are well-researched international history and geography, and culture and counterculture.

The villains are as equally well-drawn as the good guys. The book was a rollicking, fun, page-turning thriller.

From the danger of cities to the history of remote temples, the book was an increasing thrill ride that took me into a vampire’s mind and his modern world. I look forward to more engaging novels like this from the imaginative pen of author P.J. Day.

Five stars and recommended! -- Eve Paludan, bestselling author of The Witch Detectives series

Linda Style's DETROIT RULES is a brilliant crime thriller! The gutsy, streetwise heroine is as brainy as she is beautiful and her chemistry with the hero sizzles. Mystery, danger, seduction, and action, this big novel has it all! The complex plot and well-developed characters launch the must-read, page-turning Street Law series with a sensational tour de force novel of the crime genre." -- Eve Paludan, bestselling author of The Witch Detectives series

4.0 out of 5 stars A lovely retelling with an Asian flair and an intriguing setting, May 17, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Really a lovely retelling, not for children, but for adults. The story was original and the characters engaging. Some of the effects with the "roboscoping" were weird, but it did render live action into a half-animated look that had a certain charm. The Cinderella story translated well into urban Chinatown in NY City.

5.0 out of 5 stars High-action romantic suspense thriller kept me turning the pages! Five Stars!, May 6, 2015

STREET by Linda Style is a high-action romantic suspense thriller that kept me turning the pages and just loving the introduction of the Street Law characters for her new series. The heroine is so well-done and the hero has got plenty of chops, too. Crime-fighting was never so sexy, and so satisfying, as in this fast-paced Linda Style novel. She really nails down her characters early, and very well. And she's one of my favorite authors for describing setting, without interrupting the story. STREET knocked my socks off and I've read it twice in a row. Love it. I am so happy this is going to be a long-running series because I want a lot more of Charlie Street! Bring on the series because I am hooked from this prequel. Five stars and highly recommended! -- Eve Paludan

This review is from: Labor Day (Amazon Instant Video)
Poignant, profound, and moving, LABOR DAY has all of the perfect ingredients for a love story. It is well-written, well-acted, and it has so much heart. Great casting and setting, scenes that move plot and develop ever-deepening character. I will watch this movie many times, each time taking something new away from it. The only thing that threw me was the title. I know why they called it that, but it didn't contribute to how fine this movie really is. Get out the tissues. This is one memorable film.

People are pursuing the heroine and she doesn't know why. They are chasing her, threatening her, and shooting at her. Everyone from law enforcement to villains want one thing from her: information. But it's information she doesn't have. The spunky, savvy redhead with the little pink gun is in trouble, big trouble. As the mystery unravels, chapter by chapter, the twists and turns get more and more suspenseful. And the romance heats up, too. Nothing could have prepared me for the ending--it was a stunning conclusion. Set on a Mississippi gambling riverboat, this sophisticated crime thriller has many layers of story and I enjoyed it very much. It was a page-turner that kept me up all night reading it. Romantic suspense fans, you are in for a treat!

Where are the final coins that William Barrow (aka Judas Iscariot) so desperately needs to hopefully redeem himself after two thousand years of tortured immortality?

VICTORY OF COINS is the final adventure in the hunt for the thirty shekels. I have been riveted to this series from the first book. The stunning conclusion to the seven-book series leaves no doubt in my mind that this is one of the most carefully plotted series I have ever read. To take the most reviled man in Christian New Testament history and turn him into an immortal who is tasked with gathering up the 30 betrayal coins has been an incredible ride through the two-thousand-year tribulations of a spiritual criminal. William Barrow / Judas is often his own worst enemy, but he has others after him, too. Dark ones.

Add in a mysterious letter that poses a mystery and riddles from someone who mocks him with clues he cannot unravel. VICTORY OF COINS contains journeys of many miles, and of hearts. It is not enough to have the task of dealing with the last of the coins -- someone evil is coming for William / Judas.

The story is heart-wrenching, devastating, and progressive toward a hopeful redemption for his high crime against Jesus.

This entire satisfying series is a must-read. Like the other books in the series, VICTORY OF COINS is a five-star read that shook me to the core.

Highly recommended and unforgettable! It has been an epic ride through time and a quest for a reviled immortal to seek the answers to all the mysteries--spiritual and tangible--that tie in with what happened to the 30 coins that Judas received for the betrayal of Jesus. What did happen to them, by the way? This entire series is one stunning what-if adventure, and one that struck my heart with equal parts of hope and compelling desire to see what path such a fallen man would take. Victory of Coins is a parable of much of what humans fear in their darkest moments. -- Eve Paludan

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect. Close., December 24, 2014
Although the success of that bestseller book happened way too fast, I could get past that unlikely part. What threw me was the twist at the end, which was not well done. With a different ending, this could have been an astounding movie. The cast was pretty good. I enjoyed seeing Frances Conroy as the literary agent. She was very good and made me long to see her in other things. I've been a fan of hers since Six Feet Under and she played this movie role with sincerity and aplomb. Rob Lowe lacked warmth, but that was the character he played and he did it well. The little girl was so good.
