5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of protein covered in honey and fish sauce, April 4, 2014

This is the beef variant of what is called bak kwa in Hokkien speaking regions in the Southeast Asia. Like the original pork version, it is made into thin slices covered in honey. Over the years I've tried many bak kwas in the US, of both beef and pork. This is the best I have had so far, although I would not rank it as high as the first class Singaporean brands (which unfortunately do not export to the US).

Shipping was quick and the product arrived fresh with convenient resealable packaging. The meat is flavourful with a good mixture of beef, fish sauce, honey and a finishing touch of spices, giving you a very subtle fragrant sweetness. Unlike the American beef jerky, which is a good exercise for your chewing muscles, the texture of this product strikes a good balance between being chewy and tender. Also unlike many bak kwa sold in stores in Chinatowns of NYC and SF, there was no trace of stuffed corn starch, which is really a HUGE plus because the starch would have ruined both the taste and the texture.

If you like this, I would also recommend trying the pork version http://www.amazon.com/Oriental-Artisanal-Flame-Grilled-Jerky-Singapore/dp/B00CE10M9C/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t

5.0 out of 5 stars Some variance in quality but still good, April 4, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
In short: I have tried many other bak kwa brands in the US over the years and so far this is the best.

Bak kwa is a traditional snack from Hokkien speaking regions such as Teochew, Taiwan and Singapore. I got back from Singapore two weeks ago and boy not for a minute wasn't I missing the taste of bak kwa there. Unfortunately with the strict US custom rules, it is illegal for travellers to bring in foreign meat product and not one single bak kwa brand in the mentioned areas seem to have an interest of expanding outside their domestic markets. I ordered this product along with the beef variant without any hesitation after seeing so many 5-star reviews, expecting a feast over the next week.

Shipping was quick and it arrived two days after I placed the order in priority mail. On the bright side, the slice is made from real meat (vs the crap stuffed with corn starch from "some store" in NYC's Chinatown), very fresh and evenly grilled. The texture is a bit unstable from slice to slice. The first slice I had was too tender and not chewy at all while the later ones were much better. The taste is not as sophisticated as the ones I found in Singapore but still in the reasonable range.

The main downsides are (1) the price, which is almost twice as the current unit price in Singapore (where pork is presumably more expensive); (2) moooooore honey on each slice please!

1.0 out of 5 stars Fans start to make clicking noise just after 10 days, November 2, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was impressed by the highly positive reviews of this product from various tech blogs but only to find a truly disappointment. Just after 10 days' normal use, the two fans start to make a high-pitch, clicking noise, which usually only appear age-old dusty fans. Later I discovered the strength of the noise varies along with the angle the fans are wrt gravity, possibly suggesting a lousy assembly of the parts.

Even my 7-year old ThinkPad is now quieter than this. Simply unacceptable for a laptop at such a premium price.

1.0 out of 5 stars I don't understand, April 14, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I first purchased this from a marketplace reseller. It's counterfeit. Fine. I would just return and purchase it from Amazon itself. Again it's counterfeit.

I don't understand why Oral-B is still listing Amazon as sort of a recommended reseller on their website. Everyone who bought counterfeit here should complain to Oral-B and push them to take action on this stupid counterfeit madness.
