5.0 out of 5 stars Great little Samsung clone for $125, unlocked GSM, March 31, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The phone is solid (aluminum back) as advertised. The screen is bright and the touchscreen works great. It is also big. There are only 2 buttons (volume and on/off/resume screen) so it is super simple to operate. No camera button but using the app widget works fine. The screen is "no name" but that seems to be a good thing given "Orbic" would probably prompt a lot of questions

I'll also review the screen protector and case (Orbic), which were value added didn't come with. The vinyl flex case is great, fits perfect, and will protect both the screen face and the sides/back. The screen protector is a little thicker than typical which makes installation easier. Same for size, it is cut about 1-2 mm undersize which makes it easer to align for installment without edge-hanging. On the negative side, they were a little pricey ($10 each) and were all that were available at this time as the phone model is brand new

Installing the SIM and MicroSD was a little trickey as they go in a single pull-out tray, one on top and one of the bottom. You need a pin tool that is included with the phone. No need to remove the back so don't try!!!

Installing the OS was a snap -- I assume it zeroed mySIM and SD cards as none of the old apps etc were stored. It did offer to copy my apps but I decided to go from scratch. Maybe the old phone info is still in there but I couldn't find any ringtones etc with a file explorer.

One question is whether the phone can communicate with a pc. haven't done that yet.

Another fly in the ointment is that data settings don't carry over from the old SIM so I had to go into Settings and set up the APN for Straight Talk. It thinks the SIM was ATT and so you have to go into Settings, Cellular Networks, Access Point Names, and modify the APN it automatically created to have the right port number and a few other things. Check with your service provider

Really my only issues about this phone are with Android 5.1. Boy it has some bugs and nagging habits, like vibrating whenever someone picks up, that can't be turned off. But that's not on the phone. I'll just have to live through all the Google "enhancements".

All in all a good investment for $125. My Sony XperiaSP was having all kinds of equipment meltdowns, internal speaker died, bad proximity sensor, screen would die and not come back, dropped calls, finicky touchpad......using the Orbic is like heaven

In short, its a great little phone for the money -- fast and responsive! Happy so far

UPDATE APRIL 25 The positive performance continues. It is REALLY FAST, plus the 4G is free on my plan. I had a minor issue where I pocket-pushed (apparently) the control buttons and went into a blue-screen test mode , couldn't exit or reset, had to wait till the battery died and restart. But they were very accessible at customer support (in USA!!!!) and it hasn't happened since. Almost zero incidence of dropped calls. strong reception. Screen and keyboard work great. Audio and mike are great. Used to be I couldn't have a talk with many other cells but no longer an issue. Best smartphone I have ever had with room to spare. I have paid a lot more money for phones that did much less or had issues

1.0 out of 5 stars Lame antenna falls short of advertised range (the "60 mile" amplified version) in apples-to-apples test with MOKU, December 2, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This antenna does not match its advertised range. I ordered it after borrowing a neighbors Moku Leaf of the same style (amplified flat pad antenna) and the Moku worked like a charm, picking up 14 channels from as for away as, I believe, 50 miles (what the Moku claimed for its range). We live on top of the highest hill in town and have large picture windows facing the antennae. The Moku had to be moved around a bit on the picture windows to dodge a tree in the yard, but worked great. The ViewTV model claimed 60 miles but only picked up 4 channels from a much closer antenna (12 miles). We tried it both with and without amplification -- without amp, it picked up the same number plus 1 analog channel of no use. After this, we re-tried the borrowed Moku and it replicated its earlier performance. In an apples-to-apples showdown with the comparable MOKU model, the ViewTV came up woefully short on its claimed range in an ideal setting for these line-of-sight antennas. I should have bought the Leaf. This is an unbiased, unsponsored review.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome little scanner, August 22, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great little unit. Has a little holder for up to 20 slides to inject into the scanner. Works as well or better separate from computer, just scan to SD card and copy from card to computer. Scans in about a second. Reminds me of the old "slide viewers" that used to let you look at a slide before loading a projector. For the price this is awesome. In fact, its just awesome. If you have a klunky shared one at work, buy this and keep it for yourself!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, and it works great, August 22, 2015
This item was received for free in exchange for an honest review. I have a fully-capable Weather Underground station but could use something simple to measure the temperature differential between outside and our front porch greenhouse. This little baby fit the bill. It is dead simple to get up and running -- nothing to do but install AAA batteries and go. Takes about a day for the sensors to stabilize. The readout on the inside unit is large and bold and can be seen from our front door across the porch. I like that. My one complaint is that the temperature difference between the sensors seemed to vary to as much as 2.5 F in the same location over a 1-month observation period, although it was at most times within about one degree. So I would not use it for something mission-critical. The vendor says this is the limitation on the accuracy of the sensor technology

5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for a Stihl bump head, May 3, 2015
Honestly, I got this at Walmart not Amazon, but its the same Weed Warrior black plastic model taking 0.095" round line. Been wanting to try for years but had a Snapper with a non-compatible head which I finally got sick of wrestling with --- it would take 2-3 spools of triangular line to edge the yard! Replaced it last summer with a Stihl FS-38 which is a nice trimmer but the bump head often fails to advance and is a pain to wind for not much line -- no better than the Snapper though it runs better. So I gave this a shot. Was pleasantly surprised to see it fit easily -- they had a specific bushing and nut for Stihl -- and was remarkably easy to put on, just needs a 5/8" open end wrench. The line that came with it seems a little thin and flexible compared to my weedeater 0.095", but boy does it cut!!! Trimmed a 3 ft x 120 ft swath of dense brushy ground cover and it ate it up! The line was worn a little bit but still has lots of life. With the bump head I would have gone through at least one spool and stopped to pull out jams 5 times. This is a real time saver. I think I'll leave it on!

5.0 out of 5 stars great cover, June 28, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
this is the same as all of Broil Kings poly covers, but larger (maybe the largest in their line). Honestly, It is larger than I needed -- I have a Regal Pro and it was advertised as being for a Regal XL which is a wider (something like 14 inches) model. But too large is better than too small. It actually makes it easier to get on and off. The rubberized handles are a great idea. It was a bit pricier than the Lowe's generic model, but it seems heavier duty and worth it I think The trick will be how well it holds up to UV. Our previous one lasted about 8 years before tears started to appear, and after 10 there were huge rips

This one also has vents around the base -- not totally sure if those will eliminate condensation issues. We'll see

5.0 out of 5 stars Real NG powerhouse, June 16, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was a Warehouse purchase on a shipping damage return (minor), and I would probably have bought a lower BK model (like the Sovereign 90) otherwise, but the Regal 490 is a deluxe grill. Everything is stainless clad except the caster base and the side table bodies (SS-clad plastic). It is not a super thick stainless but the grill weighs 190 pounds....Assembly was 2 hours and pretty straightforward though a couple of manual "inserts" were loose that should have been bound in....and it is drawings-only no text (would have had to be tri-lingual I guess). The 3/8" flex supply tube comes with a brass quick-connect but was only about 10 ft long so I had to extend the black pipe supply line away from the house under the deck. I like evrrything about the design except maybe the grids, which are a "really tight squeeze" around sheet matal screws for which there is a notch in the grip....they include a handled "grid lifter" which is absolutely useless for heavy cast grids like these. The grids are the reversible tapered-and-grooved style, and I'll have to experiment....the tapered grids leave great grill marks

Now for the good part -- these burners put out an incredible amount of heat. 4 burners on high will top 700 degrees in under 15 minutes (not a good idea....for all 4 burners keep at med-high or lower once it is fired up)! To maintain 375 takes only 2 burners at medium-high after its hot. I've never had a propane grill that even approximately approaches this. Should be possible to dial down to lower temperatures. Searing steaks will be the style of choice. We did inch-thick pork loin chops and ahi steaks seared and the cooking took about 7 minutes both sides -- perfection.

The rear burner is conventional not infrared, but that will be easier to maintain. The rotisserie kit is the lighter duty of the two BK sells, lets see how that works.

Having natural gas is a treat (consistent gas pressure) plus the way this cooks, we'd be going through a lot of propane tanks. The double tube burner heats the box completely evenly . I'm really happy with the capability of this grill. MADE IN USA, or so it says...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good protective case, November 13, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The material is a semi-firm thermoplastic that is flexible but rigid enough. It has a bit of a cheap feel and look to it (after all it cost under $5).

Pros: Fit is perfect and snug. Covers the entire bacl and all 4 sides, completely, in a 1-piece design. The front has a substantial lip to protect the screen from floor skitters. both left and right sides have a grid surfave that grips very well. Buttons are covered and protected, one depresses the case. Material is cheap but its a good design. Offers excellent protection for the profile of the case

Cons: plastick-y look. The camera button (which responds slowly on the Xperia anyway) is almost unusable, though I use an app button to get at the camera anyway

I have this case and the similarly priced Ecell case (also on amazon). I prefer the Ecell for the look and feel, but this one is a little beefier and covers the corners (!) and top/bottom better. Its a more protective case and I think I'll use it more for that reason
