5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Work, February 19, 2013
A very find collection of reports on how cities can deal with climate change. Of particular interest is the one on water and sea level rise, which has become of key interest since the recent flooding disaster in New York. Highly recommended to those interested in urban planning in conjunction with environmental issues.

A fine book for mushroom lovers - didn't blow me away but if I was more into fungi I think I would have loved it.

3.0 out of 5 stars irresponsible history, May 17, 2012
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
It is hard for me to accept this book as responsible history considering that he argues that Thomas Jefferson did not have an affair with Sally Hemmings. The evidence points that they definitely had an affair (one just has to see where her room was at the house to see that). However, I believe that the author is on to something about the dishonoring of Jefferson - but those are more because he was against the banking system that has taken this country over rather than the reasons he argues. He is almost onto something...

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible price, April 12, 2012
This company should be protested for selling refills at this price. It is cheeper to buy the whole pens. They should be selling packs of 10 refills for this price.

One of the most heart-wrenching and powerful films I've seen in some time. I was moved to tears at the end. Just watch it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Individuals and Societies in time, January 12, 2012

This review is from: Time and Again (Paperback)
A book for anyone who has lived in New YorkCity; One of the finest reading experiences I've ever had. Some of the chapters I read with such urgency, the scenes just running through me like electricity. Jack Finney is, with this book, one of the finest authors. A complex tale about the choices we make as individuals and societies in time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Landscape of dreams, October 26, 2011

This review is from: Deep South (Hardcover)
Sally Mann has such a large body of work all of which is distinguished, and it seems almost blasphemous to pick out what is her "best." But my viewing this book, I feel a certain power that transcends meaning - these images are a combination of grace and power. The book on the whole contains a complexity of mood and emotion that is ghostly, historical - but undeniably present and real.

The quality of her images - (and I don't know how she does it...indeed content aside Mann seems to hold technical camera skills that Providence bestowed upon her alone) - gives her images a wonderful sense of depth so that one almost feels as if they are standing there, by the water's edges, for instance, while at the same time in a landscape of dreams. In a class of herself in modern art, for me her landscapes here bring to mind the work of the J.M.W. Turner for their combination of visual depth while still holding impressionist qualities.

All the images are great. The ones I took particular note on, though, are on pages

This is not a good book. It doesn't describe the exercises and the plans it gives are confusing. Get Mark Rippitoe's Starting Strength.
