5.0 out of 5 stars The 3rd CD from this AWESOME band and certainly their BEST!!!, September 15, 2009
This review is from: Unreal (Audio CD)
Received in the mail earlier this week and I can't get it out of my CD carousel. Absolutely the heirs to Dream Theater and in a league all their own. This is a band like RUSH that I hope will put out many many more CD's in the future. Every track here simply rocks like no other with very socially aware lyrics. The sound is crystal clear from track 1 to track 9. This is their most mature release to date with the coherency of a band that is totally in sync. Cannot recommend highly enough for fans of Prog Metal as this is the cream at the top of the barrel!!! Enjoy!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars. REALLY??? Bored to tears and a waste of an hour of time!!!!, April 27, 2009
This review is from: Passion (Audio CD)
Listened to this CD 4 times before writing this reveiew. I bought the CD based upon the 5 star rating here at Amazon. Honestly this is some of the most boring drab music ever laid to a CD. No wonder Jesus wandered 40 days in the desert. He probably had just listened to this unholy Peter Gabriel CD and wanted to see the world from where he exuded this musical tripe. Sorry this does NOT qualify as music. If I wanted to listen to GREAT sountrack music I will buy anything from Danny Elfman who at least can keep you interested while droning you to sleep. What a waste of Gabriel's talent. Tony Leven would be sad. Caveat Emptor!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst sounding mix EVER!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!, April 17, 2009
This is a travesty to a fine band. A few songs that are so badly recorded my dog ran for cover. Save your money and do NOT buy this piece of dog doo!!!! 'Nuff said!!

5.0 out of 5 stars After track 7 my dog exploded.......then the house collapsed.........., March 24, 2009
Are you kidding me??? This is music is SO far ahead of its time. Take Canvas Solaris and Dysrythmia, throw in DragonForce with a dash of King Crimson and KTU and yes Hendrix too and you may sort of get the idea of what this band has in store for your brain cells. NO words can describe it!! Just buy it and Behold....the Arctopus. Now I am off to fix the roof and get a new dog. I highly recommend removing your pets from the listening area as they may never be the same. I know I am not after listening to this MASTERPIECE Jazz/Fusion/Metal onslaught!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Come see what Mama's Cookin' - sweet sounds from a new band...., March 14, 2009
This review is from: Let the Record Ride (Audio CD)
Certainly not as developed as their FIVE STAR self titled 2007 release but will show you the grooves and stylings of one of America's great unheard of bands. As the other reviewer noted this CD covers many musical stylings whereas their most recent CD is more firmly grounded in funky blues ala Led Zep. A bit uneven at times but a great rock band tuning up their talents. Highly recommended but if unsure get their 2007 self titled release and go back from there.

The lead singer Early has a very unique rock voice which resonates unlike anything I have heard of late. You can still hear the band searching for their true soul though not found until their latest release. Check this out if daring and if not I HIGHLY suggest you check out their latest self titled CD and hear what I am talkin' 'bout.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOLY COW!!!! These guys smoke!!!! When does the next CD come out????, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Mama's Cookin' (Audio CD)
Like the other review here I agree this band has all the ingredients of a Led Zep successor. But mix in some old Aerosmith, B.B. King, Niacin, Matchbox 20, with some of the best lyrics ever laid on a CD and you sort of get the idea of this unknown gem. The grooves and lyrics are tight and smooth on this CD. This CD will rock you from start to finish and you will scratch your head and wonder how they are not more well known. Blues rock is alive and well with this quartet.

These four guys hail from Colorado and play Telluride from time to time. Catch them if you can because as far as this music reviewer is concerned they are going to tear the roof off on their fourth CD. If this CD is a hint of their talent we are indeed in for some hot Mama's Cookin' for some time to come. Do yourself a favor. Get a copy and prepare to be BLOWN away!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not close to their other 4 CD's - a true freshman effort - enter at your own risk, March 9, 2009
This review is from: Niacin (Audio CD)
After listening to all FIVE of Niacin's CD's I must say this one is lackluster compared to the others all of which I would rate at 4 1/2 stars or higher. There are signs of the genius on this CD that Niacin is but not enough to warrant a repeat listen. Buy the other FOUR CD's and skip this one unless you are diehard. 'Time Crunch' is their best to date and is a great place to start your Niacin diet as well as 'Deep' which came out after this CD and shows unreal progression from this mundane CD. Hope I saved you some cash or boredom.

5.0 out of 5 stars A live Jazz/Fusion Classic - Get your hands on a copy!!!!, March 4, 2009
This review is from: Threshold (Audio CD)
Performed live at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood in 2002 this CD captures everything that is great about jazz/fusion/blues. This recording catches these 5 gents at the top of their game. From fusion to straight rock/B3/jazz/blues these guys have it in spades. For a live recording the sound is crystal clear. Almost studio quality. A complete instrumental work of ORIGINAL JAZZ CLASSICS performed and captured in a moment of time for all of us to enjoy.

The CD starts out heavy and strong and slowly slips into a hypnotic B3 organ driven smooth groove that will leave you wanting more. The sax is off the hook with Eric Marienthal at the top of his game. Melvin Davis provide a nice rock steady bass throughout. And Randy Drake shows his licks on the skins. Novello has a mastery of the Hammond B3 unsurpassed by few. Sit back and chill listening to this underrated (can't believe I am the first to review this smokin' CD) gem in your CD player and get ready to take a soul/jazz/rock journey to sonic bliss.

You will thank me later.

Rock out with your Smock out!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get it while you can!!! A JAZZ/FUSION MASTERPIECE!!!!, March 4, 2009
This review is from: Finger To The Universe (Audio CD)
I can't believe I am the first to review the UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE CD!!!! It is like Miles Davis meets David Torn meets Jimi Hendrix meets KTU and is a melange of jazz fusion fury that will ignite your soul and enliven your day. This is one CD you need to hear. And after you do you won't be the same. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. I promise if you like fusion/jazz/blues/rock or just music period you will thank me for this review. In fact don't rate this review as helpful or not helpful until you listen to this CD. Then come back and thank me with a 'yes' this review was helpful. What a HIDDEN RARE GEM of a CD. These guys playing as if they had all just met at the Crossroads!!! In 30 years of music this is instantly in my TOP TEN all time CD's.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT Darkwater from Norway and they really SUCK!!!!, March 2, 2009
This review is from: Drown (Audio CD)
I bought this CD believing it to be the fantasic band from Norway. It is NOT. As far as I can tell this is a Death Metal band from PA?? from the liner notes. Amazon says it was released in 2006 and the liner notes say 1999. Either way avoid this CD like the plague. I am not even going to attempt to sell the copy here on Amazon because I would not feel right even charging $1.00 for this poor sounding CD. These guys try to sound like Anthrax and without much luck. I hope this prevents anybody else from wasting $15.00 thinking they are getting the Darkwater band that has the one CD entitled - 'Calling the Earth to Witness' which is a FIVE STAR CD all the way and might be the best CD I have heard in awhile. Peace.
