5.0 out of 5 stars versatile, flavorful, and good, November 1, 2008
This review is from: Lean Bean Cuisine (Paperback)
Nice variety of unusual recipes. I found this book when I was looking for Anasazi bean recipes. The Anasazi bean chili I found is the very best veggie chili I have ever tried. It was so good I got a copy of the book, and am I glad I did.

The recipes use either canned beans or dried beans. I think using dried beans and good quality spices gives the best results. I wonder if the reviews saying the recipes were bland used canned beans. That said the cowboy chipolte beans are hands down the best baked bean recipe I have ever had, that includes meat recipes.

As for high fat, yes some recipes can be. But if you are a full time vegetarian fat is usually not a problem for you. The kidney bean pasta salad using pesto as a dressing was very rich, but with the wheat pasta is was also very filling, so it was hard to over eat. This is a good book for vegetarians looking for more then the usual bean recipes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware!! Now made in China!, October 17, 2008
This was Wacoal's best selling bra for a reason, comfortable supportive, wonderful. For years it was made in the USA, and I was happy to pay the premium price. Now it is made in China, the fabric feels flimsy. The padding on the channeling is not near as nice as the original. The wire twists in the channel. I've bought nicer bras at Walmart for a third the price.

To add insult to injury they moved production to China and raised the price by 20 percent. This is not the bra Wacoal built their reputation on. I hope they rethink and move production back to the facility that made their name. This bra is a loser. Don't waste your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Soapy coffee, March 25, 2008
Ultra concentrated, that's right. This stuff is almost impossible to use. It's so concentrated it's difficult to dilute and to rinse off your dishes. Which means soapy coffee. Ruined meals because your pans still had soap in them. Yuck.

I even tried using a measuring spoon to get the right amount of soap in the water. When I finally got the amount that rinsed clean there was no longer enough soap in the water to get the dishes clean. I switched back to the old Dawn. To my surprise when I did that my pets mystery vomiting stopped.

Too difficult to use in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, with BIG Problems, February 5, 2008
This review is from: Madeleine Vionnet (Hardcover)
This is an outstanding book on a revolutionary designer. Wonderful photos, and "patterns" from the clothing. the only problem is Kirke never bothers to tell you what the scale is, so making these patterns is almost impossible. Her directions for making the patterns are laughable. The patterns are white lines on black. Why include patterns if you aren't going to put them in a usable form? There are people out there who can and have made clothing from this book. You will have to be very smart and well trained to do so. that said it is still one of the best books on a fashion designer I have seen.

Maybe Kirke will redesign the book with the pattern section properly done. Then the book would be worth more then $100.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best plus size patterns, January 6, 2008
This review is from: Burda Plus - English ed (Magazine)
I have been getting this magazine since 2000, and I am still using the patterns out of the first issue. The clothing made from a Burda magazine pattern fits like nothing else. When I wear them I get stopped by women asking me where they can buy those wonderful clothes, even skinny women want these clothes. No frumpy fat women clothes here.

Each magazine seems to have a theme, office clothes, sportswear, dress up. You will have to collect a few issues before all your pattern needs are filled. And do hold on to those old issues. I have one magazine I put away as just not what I wanted. Four years later and it has the perfect blouse. And yes they are always ahead of the curve. Something unique you see in Burda won't show up in the stores for 18 months.

And the fit!!! No pattern other pattern fits like Burda. They require some advanced skills. Tracing can get very tiring. But if you want to be the best dressed and not look like you shop at the mall then this pattern mag is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real soap, November 8, 2007
Sad but true, in the US you can sell detergent as soap. Why is that important? Soap is gentle on your skin and detergent strips the oils and can lead to nasty skin irritations. Most of the bath soaps sold at your local stores are detergents. I learned this when I developed skin problems.

This is a true soap made with only Olive Oil. It smells a little funny, but I never smell funny after using it. It cleans gently and leaves a thin film of oil on your skin. No more break outs, no more creams from the doctor. And best of all no more of that tight dry skin all winter long.

You must keep this soap in a soap dish that drains or it will melt away. But if you want fabulous skin this is the way to go. My friend with psoriasis started using this and found it greatly reduced her suffering. It is wonderful stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read the uncut Funeral Food, November 8, 2007
The Missionary Position is smarter and funnier then Funeral Food. The folks at Avon cut all the laugh out loud adult humor, and Funeral Food is a blander version. Taylor's voice is more original and interesting in this book where she is not being edited by the PC police.

4.0 out of 5 stars One size never fits all, August 12, 2007
made for a man's shape not a woman's. If you have an rear end at all these will not fit you properly.

But they are well sewn, the material is good. And they are good quality. They just are not made to cover a woman's curvy rear end.

5.0 out of 5 stars a Bodybuilding book for women, August 12, 2007
This review is from: Getting Built (Paperback)
Here is a book written by a woman for women. And she is an actual practicing doctor. She is also an accomplished body builder. Great information on how the body is put together. Very good information on diet. And detailed instructions on exercises and routines. And all illustrated with good form.

Every woman interested in weightlifting should own a copy of this one. I keep hoping she will take the time to update it and rerelease it. This is far superior to Arnold's book on weightlifting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soup bowl with a handle, September 27, 2006
If you like to carry your food around and do other things while eating this is a great cup for you. It is a really wonderful soup bowl. The only thing that would make it better is if the Fiesta made a matching sandwich platter with a little place for the cup to sit.

These cups have a comfortable handle, unlike some of their other cups. And it is a great shape to sit in your hands. I don't use these for coffee, it gets too cold before I can drink it all. Fans of Gillmore Girls will recognize these as the coffee cups from Luke's Dinner. And if they can keep a Gilmore Girl happy they should hold enough coffee for you.
