5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely informative and fully illustrated instructional guide to setting up an airbrushed nail business!, September 15, 2008
At the time of writing; this is the only book of its kind available to U.K. Beauty Therapists for airbrushing fingernails. As a lecturer and former salon owner; in the past I have had to rely on professional trade articles to learn this trade; which are few and far between. This book is dedicated to the Nail Artist/beauty professional; and it is a welcome addition to the expanding range of Beauty Therapy textbooks. All the advice needed is included to purchase equipment; set up; and perform nail art airbrushing services in the salon. An impressive section regarding different types of airbrushes illustrates how knowledgeable Elizabeth Anthony is regarding this subject. My only suggestion for this book would be the inclusion of a section regarding health and safety and the wearing of a safety mask. My experience of using airbrush equipment has been that airbrush cleaners can cause problems in your breathing zone. However the book does include information on an extremely useful `cleaning station' (to spray your airbrush cleaner liquid into and reduce overspray). This is a small jar with a filter cap that traps airbrush paint. This does go some way towards decreasing this problem; but does not protect the breathing zone of the Beauty Therapist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential study for Level 3 Beauty Therapy students!, September 14, 2008
Whilst teaching Level 3 VTCT Aromatherapy; this book was an essential reference guide; providing many opportunities for creating appealing and informative lessons. I recommended this book to my students; and many of them who purchased this book found it invaluable for their studies. It is a methodical and extensive book that covers all aspects of Aromatherapy theoretical knowledge; and the illustrations are exceptionally detailed and specific. I am a particular fan of providing students with mini tests at the end of their lessons. This helps consolidate learning and provides useful feedback to the teacher. This book helps both students and Lecturers tremendously in this respect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential study for those who truly want to be a Nail salon professional!, September 14, 2008
This book is written by an American author and is every bit as detailed and informative as any English standard Nail Technology academic textbook. Many high profile industry authors from the U.S.A. have contributed to this enjoyable; extensive; and exhaustive academic text. This book is overflowing with excellent quality colour photographs and industry tips and advice. As a lecturer who believes in passing on only the best educational instruction to my students; it is my opinion that this book is written from the perspective of industry professionals who truly understand what it is to be a `professional' in the Nail salon industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Provides all the necessary study skills to become a Professional Nail Technician!, September 14, 2008
This is a book that provides comprehensive and detailed instruction in all aspects of Nail technology. Written by industry experts; it clearly illustrates the authors' expertise in this subject. For those Beauty Therapists who want to specialise in Nail technology and become Nail Technicians this book is a superb reference guide. A main feature of this book is the attention to detail in every aspect of becoming a Nail technician. Not only does it provide all the necessary study skills for becoming a professional; it provides opportunities for studying competition nail art and becoming a lecturer! It is clear the authors are passionate about the Nail industry and this book demonstrated this to a high degree. In educating students; this book also serves to ultimately raise the profile of the Nail technology industry. For lecturers who teach Beauty Therapy like me; I believe this can only be for the greater good of teaching standards within the Beauty Therapy industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars An all round standard text for the study of Nail Technology!, September 14, 2008
Elaine Almond produced this standard textbook many years ago; yet it still retains its appeal to modern Beauty Therapists. This book is an informative written academic text in the study of nail techniques and technology. Its main strength lies in its extensive anatomy and physiology text and illustrations; also covering in detail nail disorders and diseases which other texts fail to cover in as much detail. Unique features include its thorough treatment of artificial nail application; and although some techniques have advanced, this book covers useful advice on nail shapes and colour theory. An extensive description of manicure and Nail Technology tools and equipment are included, along with an excellent section describing how to polish nails. From my experience as a lecturer teaching `nail polishing'; this section is invaluable to beginning students, as nail polishing is one of the most difficult tasks to master. This book is an all round standard text for Nail Technology.

5.0 out of 5 stars A practical guide to the professional application of artificial nails!, September 14, 2008
A main strength of this book lies in its dedication to the study and practice of applying salon quality artificial nails. As a lecturer in Beauty Therapy, teaching students both how to apply correctly; and produce professional standard artificial nails is one of my main concerns. This book offers superior instruction in this respect. A unique feature is its coverage of the chemistry of nail products. So often; this aspect is glossed over; and it is essential for the modern Nail Technician to understand the makeup of the products they are using; not only because of health and safety; but to be able to use the products correctly and to their best benefit. An outstanding feature of this book is that it emphasises good application techniques and product handling that is strongly underpinned by good health and safety practices. One of the best features of this instructional book is the extensive section on maintaining artificial nails; as once students have learned how to perfectly apply a set of nails; they must be able to maintain those nails!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for any Beauty Therapist who wishes to specialise in facial techniques!, September 14, 2008
A beautifully written book; fully up to date with all the latest beauty therapy facial specialist techniques. This is a book that is perfect for any Beauty Therapist who wishes to specialise in facial techniques. As a lecturer and former salon owner I can testify that facials are one of the most popular treatments a salon can offer. I recommend this book for its practical application of this subject; along with the `case studies' and `question and answers' that are so popular with students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Beauty Therapist who wishes to specialise in Microdermabrasion treatments!, September 14, 2008
This book is written by an American author Pamela Hill; a foremost authority in medical aesthetics who was a former nurse. As such; the emphasis of this book is thoroughly grounded in medical aesthetics. An extensive coverage of the fundamentals of skin care affords the therapist an understanding of how the prior application of cosmetics can affect the application of Microdermabrasion. All the main anti-ageing and `cosmeceutical' ingredients are covered in depth. An extensive chapter also covers the indications and contraindications of Microdermabrasion treatments. Treatment procedures are covered expansively with a prominence placed upon identifying safe treatment protocols and practices. As a lecturer in Beauty Therapy it is hoped that this book will aid in standardising Microdermabrasion treatments in the U.K. as this is a treatment that still has many treatment variables. During the study of my BA (Hons) Degree in Beauty Therapy Management course this book was extremely useful for my dissertation research too; purely because it provided such a comprehensive account of this popular salon treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Beauty Therapist who wishes to specialise in Semi-Permanent Makeup treatments!, September 14, 2008
This book is written by an American author Pamela Hill; a foremost authority in medical aesthetics who was a former nurse. As such; the emphasis of this book is thoroughly grounded in medical aesthetics. An extensive coverage of the fundamentals of Semi-Permanent Makeup procedures makes this is one of the best academic text books available on this subject. It is perfect for the Beauty Therapist aiming to specialise in this field as it places a prominence upon identifying safe treatment protocols and practices. As a lecturer in Beauty Therapy it is hoped that this book will aid in standardising Semi-Permanent Makeup treatments in the U.K. as training in this specialised field is usually only carried out by manufacturers' of Semi-Permanent Makeup products and private training providers.
