2.0 out of 5 stars H20 is not its friend. Humidity kicks its butt.., August 6, 2013
I bought 3 of these for our family in October of 2012. Since then 2 have died because of humidity. I bought one replacement, its still working, but I won't buy any more. One was in my pants pocket on a humid Summer afternoon. I went into a restaurant began to use it and it went into a constant boot mode. Odin boot software, etc., nothing would save it. The second one, my daughter put it in a pocket of her bag and had a wet swimming towel in another part of the bag. Left it in the car so it wouldn't get wet at Six Flags. It died from the humidity. The screen began to go white, and within a week the entire screen was white making it unusable. No US warranty, so that's that. Considering target market for these is India, I would think they won't last long there either.

2.0 out of 5 stars Arnold Schwarzenegger body with twiggy feet, June 2, 2013
Arnold Schwarzenegger body with twiggy feet

In a nutshell, the wheel stud broke. The weakest link, hence the title of this review. If HERCULES Chairs would have only reached in their pockets and pulled out an extra 65 pennies they could have made the wheels with a 3/8 inch stud connector and not a 3/16 inch stud. Cheapest man pays the most, and in this case 65 cents bought them a lousy review on amazon. Sorry.

I'm having some 300lbs coaster wheels welded to the chair frame and making it like it should have been made in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really packed with great stuff!, January 23, 2012
Everything from how to set up drums for Reggae in the bonus section, to interviews, and a BUNCH of drum beats. Not just good technical info, but also shows you the "feel" of how to pull it off. I'm using it on Native Instrument's Maschine, and the knowledge transfers well. I wish there was a Bass and Keyboard DVD for reggae of this caliber available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid as a rock! No wobble! But whats your exit strategy?, March 8, 2011
This chair is really solid. No wobble, plenty wide. I was really surprised.

If this chair has one problem, its an exit strategy. Its quite easy to sit in, get comfortable in, but when it comes time to get out of the chair you may have an issue. There is nothing to push off from. So if you are use to getting out of a chair using both your arms, you might have a problem.

However, if a no hands exit is a problem, you are going to have the same problem with any camping chair of this style.

3.0 out of 5 stars Driver support - A Greek Tragedy..., March 5, 2011
Alesis does a really poor job in keeping its drivers updated on its current product line.

The drivers for the MulitMix 16 USB 2.0 is written by a Greek company. This company is not the problem, Alesis doesn't seem to want to pay them for updates so you end up with "Rice Krispies" (snap, crackle and pop ) coming out of your mixer after few minutes of use requiring a reboot. Other than that it's a good mixer. I guess Alesis has decided that you don't have to be beautiful to get lucky, you just have to be the prettiest in the room.

1.0 out of 5 stars All the critical parts RUST!, December 26, 2010
Works great until you wash it. Then it seizes up. I used shotgun bore solvent and gun oil to loosen it up. Now I have to wash off the solvent to use it with food, and this means it will rust up again.

This is the second one I have bought in a year and the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Restoration!, November 25, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
PRO: This is a great restoration. If you have the bootleg version, give it away and get this!

CON:

The only bad thing about this is the audio commentary. There is a short interview with Samuel Jackson, who is a fan, which is worth watching.

The two audio commentaries are from the makers of Shogun Assassin, who re-edited it from the original Lone Wolf series. This audio commentary is so-so interesting, and probably worth listening to for die hard fans.

The second audio commentary is with a Kung Fu Magazine film critic and a Kung Fu and Kendo master. The film critic gives you every possible fact about this film, the decline of the Japanese film industry in the 1970s and more than anybody could possible want to know. Almost like a transcript of the day by day events that led to the folding of the studio. The Kung Fu master, when he does speak only speaks about true meaning of the film as it relates to Earth, Wind, and Fire. He is clearly put off by the film critic dominating the commentary, but when prompted to speak about technical aspects of the Sword, fighting style, Martial art stances, etc, he answers with philosophical aspects of earth, wind and or fire. At the end of the film they both decide to just talk over each other.

5.0 out of 5 stars There can be only one restore!, November 4, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just watched this on my old Laser Disc from the early 1990s this weekend. Tonight I watched the Blu-Ray Director's Cut 2010 version!

Generally I hate director's cuts. I want the theatrical version, and I want the director to stick a fork in it and call it done. But this is the exception.

Technically, they did a GREAT JOB lifting this copy from the master.

How can you tell? Because you can tell its stunt doubles and not Lambert or Connery fighting on the cliffs in the Scottish Highlands! The resolution is that good.

Its much brighter than the other versions as well. Two full F-Stops brighter would be my guess.

Also, we Americans finally get a few important deleted scenes that I saw many years ago while in Europe that help tie the story together. For those who haven't seen it, lets just say the phrase "Hey, it's a kind of magic" will now make sense. You also will no longer need say "So how did the Kurgan know Brenda was his girl friend and just show up at her door step?"

They did a great job on the sound too.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Original Master sleeps with the fishes, It is what it is., December 26, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Their was a problem, and its gone, and their was nothing they could do about it, and that's that. What ya gonna' do? We had nothing to do with it, It was between the directors.

Forgive my mixing of mob movie metaphors.
Their has been a lot of talk about the results of this restoration. I think it can be split into two categories. Image quality, and Image color. The extras disc claims the movie was a victim of its own success, in that many more film prints for theaters were made from the original master than were expected. This caused deterioration in the original master, and forty years later some of the frames in the original master are just gone and beyond repair. Can any of us say we haven't experienced some physical deterioration since 1970? So they had to fill in the holes as best they could. This process is explained in detail on the extras disc. In a nutshell, you can't fill in something with nothing, and the filler had to be consistent with the entire film or visa versa. This is why it has been digitized, normalized, and has a bit of a video game look. Given current technology, this is about as good as anyone could do.
Now about the Coloring, and blown out whites. This was a personal choice of the editors and director of photography who worked as a team during the restoration process. According to the extras disc, Coppola signed off on the final copy but wasn't directly involved in the day to day restoration process. The team claimed this is as close as possible as to what was seen at the theater when the film opened. The key words here are AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE.
So, in a nutshell, the Coppola restoration is that in name only, but still is as good as any team could do given what they had to work with. Pixel peepers won't be happy with it, but seldom are anyway, and since Mr. Peabody and his Wayback Machine hasn't been able to retrieve the unharmed original master from 1970, this is about as good as it gets. If your looking for the resolution, and sharpness of Avitar, then you will be disappointed because it was never there in the first place. It's a great film, so sit back and relax and Forget about it.
