5.0 out of 5 stars WHEN RAIN FALLS Reminds Us That Dark Days Are Only For A Season, February 28, 2012
This review is from: When Rain Falls (Paperback)
It has been a great pleasure to watch Tyora Moody as she has assisted other authors over the past couple of years. Now with her debut WHEN RAIN FALLS she is showing readers like myself exactly why she is so good at her job: It's because she is an amazing writer herself.

We have all heard the old saying that "When it rains, it pours." No matter what success she finds, this seems to be true for the main character of WHEN RAIN FALLS. The book introduces us to Candace Johnson, a woman who has known her share of heartache and loss and who has grown weary of seeking for the light when so much darkness is all around her. After losing her best friend, once again Candace not only questions God's purpose but her own place in a world that seems so cold.

Even though there are good people around her, including detective Jackson, there seems to be no end to the violence and the pure evil that Candace has to contend with. What becomes clear to her and the reader is that she is not able to find the rainbow in her life on her own. We see a shift come to Candace when she is able to open herself up to the good that is still alive in the world, and the realization that trouble really doesn't last always. Candace is also able to see that she is not the only one going through troubles, and this leads to more understanding and appreciation of what others are going through as well.

As the truth of what is occurring around her with those she loves finally comes to light and Candace is forced to literally face the source of her troubles, there are more revelations even in the tragedies that the character and the reader by extension are able to understand.

This is not just a debut. It's an introduction to an author that is sure to be with us for some time and a series that I believe we will continue to enjoy unfolding. Wonderfully crafted and delivered in a way that readers of all genres will appreciate and enjoy, WHEN RAIN FALLS reminds us that dark days are only for a season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wendy Kay Reminds Us Of The Joys Of "Feeling Good" In New Book, February 27, 2012
Many people we meet today are not only unhappy but seem to lack the steps it takes to live a more purposeful life. In MASTERING THE ART OF FEELING GOOD by Wendy Kay we are reminded of the simple truths that life teaches us to live a life where things can not only look better but be better as well.

What I enjoyed the most about the book is that it takes into account the fact that we might have had some issues in our lives that affect the way we look at the world and even our place in it. What Wendy tries to help readers to do is appreciate the fact that no matter what has happened in our past---whether it was self-inflicted or brought upon us---we can live a better life and we deserve a better life, beginning today!

Today we can choose to live in the future and not let the events of the past haunt us or leave us stagnant. There is also the understanding that although we might not be able to forget what has transpired, we can make sure that we don't allow it to shape the person we can be beginning right now. Alot of it has to do with our attitude and what we truly want out of life and from ourselves.

For me it is advice like this delivered in a compassionate yet understanding way that makes this book a must for those who might see themselves as broken and are wondering if there will ever be any relief in sight. What Wendy Kay says is Yes, we can have some relief, but first we must be able to take the medicine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suzanne Gravelle's UNFINSIHED Showcases How Much Of Our Lives Can Be Left Undone, February 27, 2012
This review is from: Unfinished (Paperback)
I've been on the journey over the past 3 years where I am connecting with individuals and their paths towards self-discovery. In the book UNFINISHED the author Suzanne Gravelle allows us to take the trip along with her and in the process figure out quite a bit about ourselves.

This is a book that highlights not only the need and desire for growth, but the importance of embracing change and all that the world has to offer. This doesn't mean that everything worked out in Gravelle's favor, but it does mean that each day that she was "aware" of herself and her larger purpose that she was able to live a much more fulfilled existence.

Men and women will be able to take this passage with the author and see how the life lessons that develop for her can help them as well. There is a whole world just waiting for us to discover it. Alot of times this might take place in a physical sense, but others of us will be able to do so by living in the present yet looking forward with optimism about what life can be.

Delivered with passion and purpose, UNFINISHED showcases how much of our lives can be left undone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coreene Callahan's FURY OF FIRE Burns Bright, February 24, 2012
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
A real winner for me when it comes to a fantasy novel is a book that takes you on a wild ride yet allows you to see a piece of yourself in the characters in the situations they find themselves in.

In the book FURY OF FIRE by Coreene Callahan we have that kind of book. It takes us into the lives of individuals that will risk their lives to ensure the safety of mankind while others see us as a race that is in the way of the future. Interesting in the concept, because alot of times you find people here on earth today that think they are the superior breed and all others should give in to us.

Bastian is the individual that will risk it all for the sake of mankind, but the fight is not an easy one. To further complicate matters the author has also given us a great love interest that makes the journey of Bastian even more interesting. In the end will he be successful in not just saving her life but the humans he feels so alligned with? That is the question we ask as the story unfolds getting us ready for the next installment in the series.

Callahan is not just another storyteller. She is an individual that knows what it takes to keep the reader's attention, and that is what she does from start to finish. This is a book you will savor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Campaign Consultant's "Diary" of Hillary Clinton's Senate Run Compelling, Leaves Unanswered Questions, February 22, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As someone who loves political history and the mechanics that go into running for any office, I was instantly intrigued by the premise of THE DIARY OF HILLARY CLINTON'S SECRET CAMPAIGN CONSULTANT. We have all heard stories about certain candidates, and though I have great respect for now Secretary of State Clinton, I think such accountants should be read and appreciated for what they have to offer.

The author, identified simply as Anonymous Fornow talks about the issues that then Former First Lady Clinton had after her husband left office and was deciding on her next step. Having read Clinton's book LIVING HISTORY she also talked about the discussions about her future and the conversations that led her to run for the New York Senate Seat. What Anonymous does, however, is give an inside perspective on the campaign's structure: what it lacked and what they as consultant offered to make it a success.

Now a contention in the work is that Clinton not only didn't seem to give credit for the work that was done by the consultant but there also seems to be an effort to keep the consultant from excelling after Clinton's successful run. What the writer does tell us is that they were quite fond of Clinton before this all happened and having shown themselves to be capable in running local campaigns before was glad to be a part of the Clinton machine during the Senate run. Their thoughts and feelings about Clinton changed, however, after it appeared their efforts were not appreciated or even rewarded.

This is where the reader has to be able to step back and weight this account against not only what Clinton has said about herself but others have said as well. I can't talk against the author's account of what transpired as I wasn't there. What I do believe is that there is always truth in accounts like this, and I believe the reader will have to decide for themselves what may or may not have happened.

Really enjoyed reading this. It's compelling, but I think there are unanswered questions that I for one would like to see addressed

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Lindsay's ONE DEAD DOCTOR is a killer of a mystery, February 20, 2012
This review is from: One Dead Doctor (Paperback)
Length:: 1:41 Mins

After some four years of keeping readers wondering where will David Price take us next, author Tony Lindsay answers with the delivery of his new book ONE DEAD DOCTOR. Published by Penknife Press, Lindsay gives us the same character that we have gotten to know and respect, but for me he also takes us into not just his abilities but the personal issues that he finds himself struggling with as well.

David Price is a man that has found respect in his community, but when there are crimes in his own community he once again takes it personally and strikes out to find out what is behind it all. Along the way we are able to see not just his interactions with his ex-wife, but what he feels like led to their going their separate ways in the first place.

As I have come to expect from anything written by Tony Lindsay, there is also a commentary on the real world in ONE DEAD DOCTOR as well. Among those who are victims in this story are young girls. In an exchange with David Price the question of who is responsible seems more important than the why. We learn from Price that addressing the why would also bring to the fore the question of why the stories of young black girls being killed doesn't get the same attention as white girls. A great discussion as we see this unfolding around us even today.

In the end ONE DEAD DOCTOR works because of the steady dance that the author orchestrates for the characters, and we as readers are able to watch it unfold. This title took me less than two days to read, and afterwards I already knew it would be a book club pick for Conversations.

Once again Tony Lindsay nails it with another thriller. ONE DEAD DOCTOR is a killer mystery people of all walks of life will enjoy.

Praise Poetry and Propaganda
Praise Poetry and Propaganda
by Janice E. Groves Todd
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Janice Groves Todd's Talent Shines Through In PRAISE, POETRY AND PROPAGANDA, February 15, 2012
From beginning to end the poetry and prose of Janice Groves Todd is not just enjoyable but showcases her ability to not only share her gift but hope as well.

The book takes you into all aspects of life, looking at things from her own history, praising individuals that she feels as though have made a difference but turning the attention by to her faith and her belief that no matter what we go through our Heavenly Father is able to help us through the situation.

What is really inspiring for me and I think will be for others as well is how the author is using this literary platform for good. Though she is addressing issues such as HIV, illiteracy and the poisonous environment around us, she is all about finding solutions and trying to make a difference. That is what I think really makes this book stand out. So many times you see people who have the light shining on them use it as an opportunity to just mention problems. Through this book Todd gives solutions that can begin today with us just making a decision to not settle for what we see.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that PRAISE, POETRY AND PROPAGANDA is written and presented in love, and that is what the reader will definitely be able to see as they read it. If you are looking for an enjoyable read that is sure to inspire you as well, then this is definitely one you want to add to your reading list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sidney Andrews' A FALL TO NEW HEIGHTS Will Your Spirits, Inspire You To Greatness, February 15, 2012
I have often heard that you can't help who you love, and I think when you read A FALL TO NEW HEIGHTS by author Sidney Andrews you will see a case in point to this saying.

Sidney takes us into what for many is a personal conflict of falling in love with someone when you are already committed to someone else---and what it means to move forward when everything around you begs you to remain still. Surprisingly for me this book was also about the importance of faith and for some this will be a point of contention, especially when they may not agree with Sidney's decision to leave her husband for another woman. What Sidney shows us by telling her story, however, is that it's about who you fall in love with, it's about what are you willing to do with that love.

This was not an easy decision for Sidney or her love interest Kate. Both had to make a critical choice that was not easy, but was definitely necessary for them to enjoy the life they thought was meant for them. Ironically it was at this point that faith really was important. Sidney writes: "Kate and I were about to discover that we could study, learn and pray until hell freezes over, but until we acted, moved , or took responsibility for what we had learned, nothing would change, not our circumstances, not our fears and surely not us. In fact, our very survival spiritually and emotionally, would depend on it." (p.142)

This book shows that for us to really grow and mature and be willing to be all we were meant to be, there were chances that had to be taken. It reminds me of a baby bird being prepared by their parents to fly. You have to just take the plunge and make a decision that you will either soar or crash. As with Sidney the choice is really ours, and that was the power that she realized.

Written with love and from an authentic place, A FALL TO NEW HEIGHTS will inspire you to the greatness that is meant for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Walter Meyer's ROUNDING THIRD Hits A Literary Home Run, February 15, 2012
This review is from: Rounding Third (Paperback)
I have tried on several occassions to put into words exactly how good ROUNDING THIRD by author Walter G Meyer is, but there are really no ways to tell you exactly why this book is haunting, thrilling and inspiring all at the same time---but I'll try.

We are able to meet Rob and Josh, two individuals who have a connection like few will be able to understand while they are also having to deal with circumstances thrust upon them simply because of being who they are. What Meyer has done in this book is allow the reader to see exactly why it is so important that one is able to walk in the truth that is their lives and not have to be afraid of what that will mean and how others will react to it.

For these two young men we see that what they experienced was far worse than just hurtful words or even abuse. They had to come to terms that what they wanted out of life and from each other was okay, inspite of what others might think.

Having had the opportunity to interview the author on my radio show I could see that this is an important message for him to share, not just because it is so timely but because there are men and women who are walking around right now with self-hatred and wondering if they are worthy of love. Meyer gives them the answer in a way that we will all be able to appreciate and understand.

This is one of those book that will be discussed not just because of its lessons but because it is delivered in such a way that readers of all backgrounds and interests will be able to find something that they can take away from it.

Walter Meyer's ROUNDING THIRD hits a literary home run for sure.

Angels & Demons: A Novel (Robert Langdon)

5.0 out of 5 stars Dan Brown's ANGELS & DEMONS Inspires Faith and Understanding, February 13, 2012
Normally I feel it is a mistake to see the movie of a book before actually reading it... I have had so many disappointments this way, but with Dan Brown's ANGELS AND DEMONS I have to say that each was so well done that I couldn't tell you which one I enjoyed more!

The book introduces us to Robert Langdon, a man I feel like I know after seeing the Davinci Code and Angel & Demons movies, but someone who Dan Brown gives amazing depth to in this book. He is called to help on what seems like a symbologist's dream assignment: answering questions about an ancient brotherhood that seems to have come alive and are working around him. This leads him on an assignment that has life and death consequences, but not before some great questions have to be asked and answers---and not always as easily as one might want.

Alone the journey Langdon is joined by Vittoria Vetra, a scientist who has a personal connection to the death and destruction that is being promised and works with Robert for answers that might also give her a sense of justice.

One aspect of the book that is lost in the movie is that of good and evil on a larger scale, and how important what one believes affects the way they choose to live their lives. As they are racing against the clock, Victtoria and Robert are able to have some real conversations about science and faith and if the two have to be at odds with one another in order for someone to be "pure" in their beliefs. I have to say that the reader will find themselves asking the same questions as they blaze through chapter after chapter, trying to see will evil have a chance to prevail or will goodness win out.

This book is one of those you can read time and again and not tire of the characters and the journey in which the author takes you. It's one of those stories that you will enjoy as fiction but will appreciate for the real questions that it raises. In the end Brown's ANGELS & DEMONS inspires faith and understanding and maybe a little patience for the reader. At least it did for me.

If you haven't already, add this one to your reading list. It is well worth the time and the effort.
