4.0 out of 5 stars Nifty and Handy!, September 22, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This a a very nifty and handy device. It can be either a hand vac or a small cordless vacuum for small jobs or areas.

It also doesnt need bags, and emptying the canister is easy- but do note you do need to take the hand-vac off the "stick" part first.

Of course, unless you have a small apartment, this is not a substitute for a full scale/power vacuum. But we founds if very handy when you just wanted to clean up a mess, instead of cleaning the whole house.

I did test this on the substance that Consumer Reports uses to torture test vacuums- MaineCoon Cat hair. It did better than expected and didnt jam up. But the cup needed emptying rather quickly. However, this test has killed other vacuums, so not bad at all.

Thanks to Maximus the 30# MaineCoon Cat for his generous assistance!

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally a serious novel about Roleplaying games & gamers, September 18, 2014
This is a complex, many layered novel that defies easy description. On one level, it is finally the serious novel about Role-playing gamers that many have been waiting for. On another it is a commentary on Life. On yet another... no, I don't want to spoil it.

This book is by no means a easy read, but I found myself looking forward to re-reading it, which is a odd combo. Somehow, I was reminded of American Gods- even tho the plot has little in common. True, John is by no means the wordsmith that Gaiman is- but clearly the potential is there.

You might even know someone like the protagonist here- young man, never leaves the house (injured in a incident- which becomes the crux of the matter) , lives his life thru playing and designing roleplaying games.

Fascinating, captivating, challenging and a great debut novel by singer and songwriter John Darnielle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, truly lovely!, September 15, 2014
Lovingly illustrated Children's book, suitable for all ages.

Marcel the Elephant loves to go thru life , noting every detail and his surroundings. He notes and studies plants, animals, and the building around where he lives(Marcel is a city elephant, of course!). Marcel is writing a special encyclopedia, you see. And-today is a special day- Marcel's Birthday- and what present he gets!

Oddly while Marcel is a city elephant, the author makes sure to pepper the book with real life facts about Marcels more wild brethren.

Only forty pages, but each is crammed with fabulous illustrations and over-sized to boot.

This would be great for a read-aloud for the kid to point out the things while the parents reads or for a rather bright early reader to spend hours noting each beautiful detail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glow little bear, glow!, September 12, 2014
Shengshou Plush Luminous Glow Cartoon Teddy Toy Bear
This is a really cute bear. It is very soft and cuddly and cheerful to look at.

It took a little while to figure out how to work it because it didn't have any instructions with it. I figured out the battery part, but not that you also have to tap it on the head to make it glow.

The lights are really pretty and bright enough that you can use it as an emergency night light. They show really well through the white fur. I don't think any other color of fur would work as well with the lights.

It comes with a cheerful pink bow that was stitched on with just one thread. Unfortunately it came off in my hand as I was straightening it. Oh well, easy enough to sew back on and I can play around with the placement of the bow. (It makes a cute bow tie as well) I'm glad it turns itself off after 10 minutes or it would be on 24/7 here. So far the batteries are holding up well but they are easy to get to. It is a substantial size, almost two feet tall. It sits up pretty well by itself too.

I really like this bear and I think you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Fitness Fun!, September 11, 2014
This review is from: LeapFrog LeapBand, Blue (Toy)
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The Leapfrog band is a fun, colorful, interactive activities wrist band for children.

It is easy to set up and charge and comes with its own cord for charging. ( I hate having to look for charging cords for things. Everything should come fully equipped in my opinion.)

One of my favorite things is the virtual pets- There is a great choice of pets to choose from that can be personalized. It would be nice if you could add your own choice of names, maybe through the download. The little characters are really cute, cheerful and encouraging. They even make me want to get up and move.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book in this series, September 10, 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
No River Too Wide by Emilie Richards.
If you have ever wondered why women don't leave the men that abuse them this book explains why with great compassion and insight. I've always known it isn't as easy and straight forward as "just leave him" but Emilie makes you really understand the why behind it.

The story is uplifting and the characters are cautious but working on really living their lives. This book is part of a series but definitely can be read as a stand alone.( That just means you have more books to look forward to about these people.) I really like Emilie Richards's books and this is one of her outstanding ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light but tough, September 10, 2014
This Caseguru cover is pretty lightweight but sturdy.

It's not much bulkier than a regular hard case so it's easy to carry around. I didn't realize the plastic for the screen cover was part of the design at first, I almost thought it was part of the packaging. The buttons and ports are all well covered and yes, it is easy to uncover the lens for the camera for use. I like the clip that comes with it that is both a kickstand and a lock for everything.

This is going to be great for those occasional fumbles and when you are out in the great outdoors.

5.0 out of 5 stars cool style and still tough, September 9, 2014
This review is from: Nomad Classic Biker Jacket (XL)
Quality, thick but supple leather. A true classic "Motorcycle jacket" which is great for just wearing around town too, due to the timeless styling.

I'd say order one size larger if you plan on wearing over normal clothes.

Not armored, but still a really tough leather that will protect vs road rash and wind and still look good.

Warm and protective. Heavy duty zippers. Plenty of pockets.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scary with a touch of humor, September 9, 2014
This review is from: Nightmares! (Hardcover)
Charlie Laird has nitemares- and his daytime life isn't all that great either, what with a rather spooky new stepmother and having to move into her strange house.

But are they just dreams or are his nitemares coming true?

Suitable for any but the youngest kids.

First book in a trilogy. Easy to read and a fun read besides.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining natural science history, September 4, 2014
This is a very fun and very education book, written for school-aged children, but suitable for all age. Georg Steller was one of the greatest naturalists of all time, and his discoveries were numerous and awe-inspiring.

This fascinating tale is one of hardship and adventure also, not just natural science.

A easy read and a real page turner. A good way to make learning fun.
