4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product to teach children about their world, April 8, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bottom line: good product and would recommend if you are looking for something need to teach children

The good: Great stand. The zoom seems incredible for such an inexpensive product. You can magnify all kinds of neat things and discover entire worlds to your kids. Showed my girls their dry skin. Their response "That's gross". The ability to capture pictures and videos is a cool feature. Just having the ability to look at things very close is a cool. You find yourself looking at all kinds of odd items like spots on your skin, stains on the table, carpet, grass, bugs, rocks, ink on paper, pen head, wood, jewelry, pixels on your iphone, etc. I find myself wanting to look at all kinds of stuff.

The bad: not much. Takes about 20 minutes to learn how to work this unit. You really only have two views, one is around the 10x and the other somewhere around the 150x range. You find the focus button and distance away from the object is how you discover these worlds. I thought you opened the package, turned on, and bam, stuff! Little more complicated. Not much though. Just takes some getting used to. Don't get frustrated, just keep trying to focus and watch it open up. Also, the light seems to be a slight issue. It keeps turning off and on for no rhyme or reason. I think it calculates when it things it needs light but guessing they haven't perfected it. I keep having to move around to get the lights to pop back on. Little frustrating.

All in all, not in the same league as the upper end scientific equipment. If your in that market for a higher end microscope and considering this item, you may want to rethink. However, if your in the market for a cool tool to explore things with your kids, this is your equipment. Hope this helps and enjoy.

Have to say, did a lot of research on these lamps. Was told by all research not to purchase the OEM from sony. Followed everyone's advice and got this unit. Have to admit. the original lamp lasted me almost 4 years. Not bad for an OEM. The television would shut down periodically because the bulb was getting hot due to dust impeding air flow. Also, light was starting to get dim. Replaced with this unit in about 5 minutes. never looked back. Came out like a new television. For the price difference, I can buy two and a half of these before coming close to the Sony OEM part. Don't goof up and get the sony part as you will just be paying for the name. Anyone can reverse engineer these parts. At least Phillips has been around for some time so I feel like they can be trusted. Hope this helps.

2.0 out of 5 stars Battery Hog, February 19, 2012

This review is from: Ucreate Music (Toy)
The kids love to play with the toy for about an hour then chunck in the corner. However, they forget to turn off and it eats batteries. It would be nice to have something that shuts it down with 15 minutes of inactivity. you can't keep batteries in it long enough to have any fun. At least it gave the kids something to do for a little while. Now it just sits in a pile of toys that never get used. Going to sell in a yard sale this year. I don't recommend this item.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth it but nothing groundbreaking, February 19, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We purchased this item a couple of years ago and still use it on occasion. Interestingly enough, it has been in the back of my truck for a year for those 'just in case' moments. I like the fact it is easy to fold up and shove in the car. Unlike the huge strollers, this unit is not bulky or heavy. However, with both kids in the seat, it tends to get a little challenging to push around. the front wheels don't like to cooperate all the time. Also, the width of the handles makes it a little odd for grasping. You will find yourself switching handles often. It is harder to maneuver when holding the middle handle. Problem is, it feels like the right place to grasp. Its a catch 22. Even with these little concerns, buy it. You won't be disappointed. Make sure you buckle your kids in with the harness. We were at an event in town and a car started to back up. I jerked the stroller backward and my kid came flying out. I got behind the car and beat a dent in his trunk getting him to stop. Luckily everyone was ok. Baby just got a scratch on her face. However, daddy learned to buckle them in not matter how short the trip!!! Hope this helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Choice, February 19, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are pretty good speakers. Put them on my back porch so everyone can enjoy music around the pool. The brackets made it easy to mount on the wall. They actually gave me a few choices for mounting. Once they were wired into the stereo, I turned on and enjoyed. The sound wasn't mind blowing but, in all fairness, I haven't played much with the audio settings on the stereo. I will say, they get as loud as you would like. I've had them so loud the neighbors came out, oops. If your looking for something outside that can take the volume and look good, these are it. Almost forgot, I've only had them installed for about a month but feel they won't have a problem in the weather. They are protected from Rain and direct sunlight so not concerned about longevity. I like these speakers and hopefully they will last a long time. Hope this helps
