A booked based on the marketing principles of a snake oil salesman from many years ago is fundamentally a BAD IDEA.
As Zig Ziglar says, you can find a biscuit in the garbage, but that's not the place to look.

Do marketers in 2010 really need to study the scammer techniques used by a quack snake oil salesman? Aren't there BETTER examples to study and learn from? Of course there are.

Here's my question to Dan Kennedy: After decades of teaching your marketing techniques to students, don't you have any RECENT examples of how your marketing ideas may be applied for success? Why not write a book about that?

Don't you think marketers in 2010 care more about what's working well in this century than the gimmicks used to sell fake, unproven remedies to unsuspecting consumers 80 years ago?

Read up on Dr. John R. Brinkley, the man this book is based upon, and you will find he in his later years he was sued for malpractice, indicted for fraud, and died penniless.

It's shocking to me that people would pay $350 for a heater that puts out the exact same amount of heat as a $19.95 heater available at most major retail stores. If you read the specification, the heater in the HeatSurge fireplace is a 1,500 watt quartz ceramic heater.

And guess what? My local Target has a whole section full of 1,500 quartz ceramic heaters for less than...$30 each. In fact, I bought a 1,500 watt quartz ceramic heater at Target for $19.95, and it works great! The one I bought for $19.95 works so good I bought several more for my house, one for my Mom, one for my Dad, and two for my sister, all at $19.95 each! Actually, some were on sale after Christmas for $14.95 each, and others were two for $20! Nice. And warm.

This CD set is perhaps the best deal on Jay Abraham material ever offered. This audio book is eight hours and fifty three minutes of pure Jay Abraham (no other speakers), sharing his most recent strategies and tactics for growing businesses. 100% Jay Abraham for almost nine solid hours of ingenious marketing advice, examples, stories, case studies and step-by-step instructions for what to do and how to do it.

To put this in the proper perspective, Jay's fee for a one hour consultation is $5,000. If you were to hire him to consult with you for nine hours, it would cost you $45,000. While not the same as a private consultation, this CD set provides you with more than a full day of Jay's expert advice (for only $29.95). There are dozens and dozens of outstanding marketing ideas revealed in this program that ANY business owner (or start-up entrepreneur) can apply to get their business growing.

I loved this CD set, and plan to study it at least once a year. If you are a Jay Abraham follower, fan, or business owner (or manager) looking for new ways to grow your business, you will get a lot out of this set of CDs. One thing particularly nice about this set is it is tightly edited. No long, rambling sessions. No gaps in the recording or hard to hear segments. No questions from the live audience that you cannot hear. This program was recorded in a studio and professionally edited, resulting in clear, crisp audio that is a pleasure to listen to (in the car, for example). More importantly, the marketing ideas are easy to understand and learn.

While Jay reiterates many of the same concepts he has for years, this program does have new examples and stories, as well as some old ones, too. Have you ever heard the Icy Hot story? How about Investment Rarities? He tells them AGAIN in this set :) The real question I ask myself is not how many times have I heard the same stories and learned the same principles, but how many of these concepts am I actually APPLYING in my business? That's what matters. Implementation is EVERYTHING.

With many books and programs by Jay on my shelf, this is one of my all time favorites.

For the past 15 years I have studied Dan Kennedy's marketing books and have found him to be a brilliant marketer and excellent teacher. My Unfinished Business provides many glimpses into Dan's personal and professional life that I found fascinating, enjoyable, entertaining and in some parts quite sad. He says repeatedly throughout the book that he is not super-human, nor are any other highly successful business people, celebrities or gurus. In addition to many stories about his successes, Dan openly talks about some of his personal and professional challenges, failures, times when he disappointed others, and regrets.

The underlying message that kept shining through in this book is that, ANYBODY can make themselves a success, set and achieve goals, and create a good and happy life, REGARDLESS of the hand they were dealt, mistakes made, challenges and set-backs faced. To be successful Dan offers many solid ideas such as studying successful people (for example, by reading their autobiographies), developing a positive mind-set (including becoming a student of self-help materials, such as Psycho-Cybernetics) setting specific goals, seeking out and discovering work you love, working hard, and NEVER GIVING UP. I found this book to be inspiring, insightful, instructive, honest and very enjoyable to read.

This book provides instantly actionable strategies and tactics for increasing revenue and profit with virtually zero risk. Jay Abraham has taught for years the awesome power of unconventional marketing and it's ability to produce immediate breakthroughs in sales and profit.

The stories and examples demonstrating precisely how this can be done are compelling. For example, on page 223 Abraham tells the story of a client who sold large, expensive training programs. They generated a high-volume of leads, but actually converted a small percentage to sales. By sending a simple sales letter to those who did NOT buy, and offering them an alternative program (provided by another company) at a lower price point, they generated $10,000,000 in new sales. From "dead" leads of prospects who had already said no to the main offering. A simple, brilliant, low-cost and virtually zero-risk strategy that resulted in an enormous pay day.

Another compelling example offered is the dry cleaner in Chicago Abraham worked with who turned a single store front with average performance into three highly successful locations. At that point the owner was satisfied with his profits and did not want to put in more time or effort to grow beyond the three stores. Abraham explained how his "system" for success in the dry cleaning business could be marketed to other dry cleaners in other states. The owner went on to "license" his ads and marketing system to 3,000 cleaners at $100 per month. This is the type of break-through thinking Abraham provides.

When I was in college a professor recommended I read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, saying it was such an important book he would buy it for me if I could not afford it. Very glad I listened to him as that book altered the course of my life (which reminds me I need to read it again). The Answer is a book in the same category as the Seven Habits: profound and potentially life-altering (potentially because you have to put what you learn into action). The movie The Secret introduced people to the Law of Attraction, but many who saw it thought all they needed to do was have "desire" for their vision of the future. The Answer corrects that misunderstanding and demonstrates how a clear and compelling vision of the future, combined with specific, persistent ACTION, can bring virtually anything you desire into your life. If you like books on success, motivation, and business, this book should be on your short list to read soon. Highly recommended.
