4.0 out of 5 stars Broken Lizard is back!, April 5, 2010
This review is from: The Slammin' Salmon (DVD)
Super Troopers has gained classic status, Beerfest is a hilarious flick, but the rest of Broken Lizard's movies just leave a bad not-so-funny taste in your mouth. Well put that out of your head because Slammin' Salmon is the possibly the best Broken Lizard movie yet. Full of quotes you'll be spouting to your friends for the next 6 months ("COLESLAW NEVER TASTED SO GOOD")and some of the most outrageous scenes since Super Troopers; do not miss this new comedy classic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow and steady wins races (but isn't great for films), August 6, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Sky Crawlers (DVD)
First of all let me say the battle sequences in Sky Crawlers were phenomenal! I only hope that this is the future of anime. Visually the anime would get 5/5 stars, however, the story leaves a lot to be desired. Now I loved Ghost in the Shell and though it was also slow it kept my interest throughout (and that was when I was a more attention deficitable).

The story follows an ace pilot and his entrance into a new squad. He has replaced another pilot who has died but not in a plane flight. None of the other pilots want to tell him truth about the pilot he replaced...and so it goes.

To summarize: the story is painfully slow but the action sequences are not to be missed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is this what love is supposed to be?, April 6, 2009
This is one of the most frightening displays of romance I've ever seen in my life. This is NOT a love story. Edward (male protagonist)is obsessive to the point of restraining order. He watches her sleep, follows her everywhere and is only interested because this is the one persons mind he cannot read. Bella (female protagonist) is about intriguing as a candy bar wrapper (an empty one at that).

Since I've read the books (occupational hazards of a librarian) I know this only gets worse. In a world of quality young adult literature where relationships are often shown as fleeting and impermanent, this story should not have been published let alone made into a movie.

After reading/viewing anything I have to ask: what's the point? In this instance I cannot come up with anything. What is this book/movie trying to say about relationships? Because this is scary, obsessed love, not fulfilling, lasting love.

P.S. Why do recent authors think they have personal license to change vampire lore?

2.0 out of 5 stars Will the real Common Sense please stand up?, January 27, 2009
This review is from: Universal Mind Control (Audio CD)
First of all let me start by saying Common WAS one of the most underrated and intelligent rappers in the game. However, this album is an utter disappointment. Perhaps Common is too focused on his acting career (He's no Will Smith and I wished he'd stop trying) to find decent production and come up with intelligent lyrics.

With 10 tracks this album is incredibly short, and about 80% of the tracks are throw away. Universal Mind Control (the track) is descent and gives a little somethin to the breakers, and Gladiator is the other good song, being both interesting and energetic. As for the good tracks: That's all folks. Now on to the terrible: "Sex 4 Suga" is the worst Common song EVER while the rest of the album sorta feels like filler, very skippable.

This has been a bad year for Chicago (musically), with the terrible Kanye album and now this, at least we still have Obama (crap, he left us too).

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND CHECK IT OUT FROM YOUR LIBRARY INSTEAD OF BUYING THIS ALBUM. Bad meaning bad not bad meaning Good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just not as good as his first, October 3, 2008
This review is from: LAX [Edited] (Audio CD)
This Game album has some bright moments but is otherwise...um, boring. It's a lot of the same thing over and over. Of course the songs from the radio are pretty good and it's great to see Common on a track but all in all the album was OK.

I suggest getting the few tracks you like on MP3 and skipping the whole disc.

4.0 out of 5 stars David Banner back again, October 3, 2008
David Banner's newest album is a solid effort. Most of the beats are on point which is to be expected from Banner. Yes, he is angry, but he has very good reason to be and his message is actually a positive one (with out being preachy). The title of the album refers to making your own story the greatest story ever told.

I bought the Clean version for a library and the edits are not as obnoxious as other edited albums (i.e anything that G-Unit puts out).
