White Bird in a Blizzard
White Bird in a Blizzard

4.0 out of 5 stars Good movie, but missing a center., February 28, 2015
This was a good movie, but struggled for a true identity. It was great to Woodley expanding beyond "little girl" roles. "The fault in our stars" is a good start and this movie continues to show more beyond "Divergent" and "The secret life of the American teenager". It could be argued that this movie was for her to show an adult nasty side, she's topless several times, but I don't think so. Her nudity was not tasteless, over the top, or for the sake of nudity. It was in the movie because it was crucial to the tone.

All that being said, the movie cannot be labeled with a true "type". It's a drama, it's coming of age, it's loosely mystery, but it never seems to define itself or give us a real center. It is good and worth watching with a sad heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, but..., February 7, 2015

I own this movie, and it is by far one of the best horror movies to watch. Having said that, it may be too much for some people because of scenes involving actual young children.

The movie is broken into 4 stories that all intertwine. Each story has it's own twist and they all involve horror, 2 of which do involve 12-15 year olds children. I am a father of 2 and it didn't bother me, but for some they may not want to see kids hurt. To be true though, the fact that they did use actual kids and not a bunch of mid 20's acting like high schoolers, is what makes it different and fresh.

If you are a fan of actual good horror, not low grade torture/slasher films, then definitely watch this or add it to your collection. Awesome movie!

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but way too many questions, January 16, 2015
This is a "found footage" movie that takes place in the catacombs under Paris.

One thing that bugged was the sound was bad and often times you couldn't understand the French actors. Without giving away the story, the end with the stone made no sense. The horror was meh, with not alot of true scare moments. You could see some of the plot coming from a mile away.

It's ok, but I won't buy it or see it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ed Lee taking on witches and perverts, December 6, 2014

If you like Ed Lee then you will like his take on the old witching days. You have a successful busines man who needs to leave the big city, and a big contreversy, behind for awhile. He begins seeing the old days of a small village at its worse and he eventually can't tell if the old world is crossing into the new. Horror and sex galore! Not for the easily disturbed.

This is an older horror film that you can't put too much description in without ruining it. A group of friends go to a rich friends island retreat for a weekend break. The bodies start piling up, but no one knows who is behind it. Vicious twist at the end lets you know that this was not any old 80's horror movie. My 18 yo daughter prefers this one to the remake!

The Library is a massive world that is just a huge...library. It has tribes and animals all its own and dangers from above the shelves! This was touched on in Lupine Howl, but it made a great story all on its own!

If you love Ed Lee or Bryan Smith, then you gotta read this. Smith has done this type of book before, but this is not a rehash. It's got strippers and violence and evil. Not for the faint of heart. Damn good splatter punk!

Let me start by saying I have read probably 90% of Ed Lee's works and I almost always go 4 or 5 stars. This is the lowest rating I have ever given him and it's not because it was a terrible book overall, but because it is not representative of Lee.

Rating just the material, I have to say it was longwinded and at times even boring. Totally not Lee! He spent too much time making sure you knew that he researched his work. He went on and on about either beer making or Cival War railroads. Alot of long unnessecary conversations.

The usual sex was there, but the horror was seriously lacking! It's hard to believe this is the same author from "Flesh Gothic", my first Ed Lee book and a true representation of him. This is nothing like that or his Hell Infernal series, which is a near masterpiece of erotic horror.

This book is not typical of this author, so if you like Ed Lee avoid it. And it's kinda boring and blah as a general piece of literature.
