5.0 out of 5 stars Memorable and Magical, August 28, 2000
This review is from: Planxty (Audio CD)
It's difficult to be objective about such a beautiful collection that has such meaning in memories for one. I found myself learning and singing these songs so many times, with the olde feelings, too. Takes you back, in a way, to a more robust time, and a time when there WAS time to feel our feelings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish bonanza, August 28, 2000
This review is from: Words & Music (Audio CD)
Planxty's so colorful and magic. Their playing is right on, energetic and imaginative. Here's more beautiful and heartrending ballads amidst raucous reels and jigs to chase those blues away.

5.0 out of 5 stars gentle on my mind, August 14, 2000
This review is from: Avalon Sunset (Audio CD)
This is a good, healing collection of songs. It kicks you back and swings you a little. He is very honest, very at ease here - and yet you feel the power in the soul in his voice. It has sort of the feeling of spirituals. Well-paced and beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intoxicating, August 14, 2000
This review is from: Rhythm of the Saints (Audio CD)
That's just it. Intoxicating rhythms, the amazingly astute and effective Simonian poetry... It's all here for an incredible musical experience using South-American musical elements in an easy, clean, energetic and intoxicating cd. You'll love it. Promise!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dear Listeners, what an album this is!, August 8, 2000
One of the great things about The Moody Blues' earlier albums was the cover art. Phil Travers, I believe is featured here, if not, on most of them. Some of 'Threshold's' feeling (and looks)are like what younger kids were calling 'Goth' a few years back - it's sort of dark, but in an imaginative and positive way. 'Lovely to See You' is a fun hit, but there are others - 'Send Me No Wine' for one. 'In the Beginning' is an oddly prophetic drama/dialogue where one is told that they are "magnetic ink" - to suit the "great computer"... This album has all the elements of classic Moody broodiness and creativity, and even takes you on a magical voyage back to Camelot - if you're 'sitting comfortably'...

5.0 out of 5 stars The other side of the Moodies, July 2, 2000
This review is from: The Other Side Of Life (Audio CD)
This is the first of three cds by the MBs where they are a bit darker, more aggressive, perhaps a bit earthier sounding at times. Make no mistake, the melody and the songwriting and everything are still there...
This cd has a fun mix of feeling from the Be-Bop sounding 'Slings and Arrows' to the hard-driving 'Rock and Roll Over You'. 'Wildest Dreams' and 'The Other Side of Life' - a truly fascinating song - are the hits, 'Talkin' Talkin'' is up there, too.

Isn't it always a question of balance? Now I know what the Moodies' music IS, up to this point, - it's 'Philosophy Rock'!

Isn't it always a Question of Balance? Now I know what ... , It's Philosophy Rock!
I hope the "CD" cover opens up 'off balance' like the album cover does. This is a pretty fun bunch of music for all that. Too bad I was only 10 yrs old in 1970 when this came out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks Amazon-Thanks BlueJays!, May 10, 2000
This review is from: Blue Jays (Audio CD)
When BlueJays came out, there was no question that I would buy it. And so it came to be for me, Gilbert and Sullivan, Lennon and McCartney, Hayward and Lodge (Hayward and Thomas can get it on, too)! So anyway, I was totally taken with this album. The strings (taught myself the violin part on 'Who Are You Now'!), the songwriting, the jams, the voices, the intensity, the romance, and even some of that Moody cosmicness make for a thrilling musical experience. What would we have done without the Moody Blues, or this album? Especially when you think of some of the other stuff that was around at the time, you know, for us teenagers ... We were, are, literally 'Saved By The Music'! Thank God!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeff's book is good!, May 3, 2000
Even if Pluto can be a devourer, a scourer, it helps to have this plutonian writer hold your hand while weathering the changes. Greene, himself, must be a bit of a plutonian character, having acquired such knowledge and insight into this fascinating subject. In fact, he does explain on the book jacket, briefly, experiences which have affected his pursuit of topics of transformation. He includes charts of some famous and historical figures, too, which is interesting (I don't agree with Jesus' birthdate, though). I find this book to be a continually helpful resource. However, I am a continual over-analyzer - 1st house Pluto in Virgo, you know...
