5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Sexy, Thought-provoking, March 1, 2014
A beautiful and atmospheric gay themed thriller set amidst lush surroundings of a beautiful lake which rekindles memories of Hitchcockian masterpieces. Dark and intriguing study of a dangerous attraction and just how far one would go to live his obsession. One of the better films in the recent years, gay themed or otherwise. Just a heads up that the film contains scenes of graphic nudity and sex.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even new masters for the first two films?? Pass., July 18, 2013
Well, the much hyped Ultimate Collector's Edition would still be worthwhile had they at least given us new masters for the first two films. But no. Instead, they chose to add in some fancy cards and worthless toys to the existing releases, giving the whole packaging a new name pricing it high. If you don't own the films already, get the previous release- The Dark Knight Trilogy at a fraction of this new set's price and stay well away from this lame release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slumdog Millionaire DVD: Here's what to look forward to, March 3, 2009
This review is from: Slumdog Millionaire (DVD)
Alright, here comes the dvd release of the most awarded film of the season. Here's what to look forward to on the disc, in terms of extra features:

Commentary by Director Danny Boyle and Actor Dev Patel
Second commentary by Producer Christian Colson and Writer Simon Beaufoy
Slumdog Dreams: Danny Boyle & The Making of Slumdog Millionaire featurette
12 Deleted Scenes
Slumdog Cutdown feature

The Blu-ray release will include all of the above, and:

"From Script To Screen: Toilet Scene" feature
Indian Short Film : Manjha
Bombay Liquid Dance Music Video, and a digital copy

Well, only if they had included those tiny little extras on the standard release as well. Anyway, still this looks like a worthwhile release for all the fans of the film. It can't get any better than this. Well, I can't wait for 31st March.

Jai Ho!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disney unleashes the hounds!!, November 15, 2007
Disney has announced the release of 101 Dalmatians, one of the most cherished Disney classics, on 2-disc Platinum edition dvd on March 4, 2008. Rather than speaking about the film I would rather share the details about this upcoming Platinum Edition dvd. The film has been digitally remastered for this release which also boasts of many previously unseen bonus features. The best part, however, is that unlike the recently cropped "Jungle Book", 101 Dalmatians will be presented in its original fullscreen aspect ratio. Here's a list of bonus features based on the press release published by UltimateDisney:

Disney's Virtual Dalmatians: Adopt, name, train and care for your very own virtual puppy where there are over 101 possibilities.

Puppy Profiler: Find out which dog you're most like!

101 Pop-Up Trivia Facts For The Family & Collector: Discover 202 amazing things You Never Knew about the movie as you watch it - with 101 pop up facts for the family and 101 for the collector

All-New "Cruella De Vil" Music Video: The classic song "Cruella De Vil" gets a contemporary twist when multitalented teen Disney Channel star Selena Gomez performs the song in a brand new video!

Redefining The Line: The Making Of 101 Dalmatians
101 Dalmatians is considered by critics to be one of the best and most innovative Disney animated films. Go behind the scenes with its creators to find out about everything - including the technological innovation of the Xerox process in animation.

Cruella De Vil: Drawn To Be Bad: Inspired by flamboyant actress Tallulah Bankhead, Cruella De Vil has become a villain that movie fans love to hate. Marc Davis, an animation legend and one of Disney's immortal "Nine Old Men" reveals how this iconic character came to be.

Sincerely Yours, Walt Disney: Experience Walt Disney and Dodie Smith's (author of the book The Hundred and One Dalmatians) actual correspondence during the movie's production.

Deleted Songs: Songs written for the film - finally come to life!

.....And Much More!

1.0 out of 5 stars There they milk us again!!!, October 29, 2007
One movie on which the studio will milk the fans the world over for as many times as they can! Alright, I held back buying the 60th Anniversary edition released last year thinking there will be a definite release of this gem. When this double-disc release was announced, I was very hopeful that at least now after countless releases, this will be the definitive edition of the film but man, they proved me wrong again. Rather than working on the new release, they just repackaged the 60th Anniversary edition alongwith another disc featuring the colorised version of the film. No new extras or commentaries here, so in case, just like me, if you were looking forward to own a definitive release of this wonderful film, looks like you may have to wait a little longer. Maybe for a few more years till the publishing house milks every drop from the fans.

A billion stars for the film and no stars for this so called "2-disc collectors edition" and the studio releasing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem Repolished!!!!, March 26, 2007
It cant get any better than this. Disney beloved animated classic "The Jungle Book" finally gets the long overdue Platinum treatment. This new 40th Anniversary release will include an all-new digital restoration of the film and for the very first time ever, this release will feature the movie in 1.75:1 widescreen aspect ratio (Please be aware that "Jungle Book" was filmed in 1.37:1 aspect ratio and was cropped for its theatrical screenings. The movie loses a little from top and bottom here in this restored version so think twice before selling off your old copies which featured the movie in its original fullscreen ratio). Along with a 5.1 Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix soundtrack, this edition includes a restored original theatrical soundtrack too. French and Spanish language tracks will also appear on the disc. According to dvdtimes, extras on this platinum edition will include:

Audio Commentary - Combines comments from current animators with audio from the original creative team who made the film

The Lost Character: Rocky The Rhino - For the first time ever, the near-sighted, short-tempered rhinoceros named Rocky is brought to the screen using original storyboards and original voice recordings by Frank Fontaine.

The Bare Necessities: The Making of The Jungle Book - A comprehensive look at the last animated film that Walt Disney produced using existing archival footage in addition to new interviews with Richard Sherman, Brad Bird, Glen Keane, Eric Goldberg, James Baxter, Will Fi'nn, Andreas Deja, Burny Mattinson Ted Thomas, Bruce Reitherman, John Culhane, John Canemaker and Neal Gabler--plus a never-before-seen collection of artwork and treatments from the film

Disney's Kipling: Walt's Magic Touch on A Literary Classic - A discarded film treatment from 1963 includes scenes from Kipling's "Mowgli Stories" and more are used to illustrate Walt's interpretation of the literary masterpiece

The Lure of The Jungle Book - Many of today's biggest names in animation were inspired to pursue their careers after seeing The Jungle Book; this feature examines this phenomenon and features new interviews with Brad Bird, Andreas Deja, Sergio Pablo, Will Finn and Eric Goldberg.

Mowgli's Return to the Jungle - Learn about nature filmmaking and the experience of making The Jungle Book firsthand from Bruce Reitherman, the voice of Mowgli.

Baloo's Virtual Swingin' Jungle Cruise - Join everyone's favourite bear in this set-top and DVD-ROM game on an adventure through the jungle: enjoy fun activities and musical challenges, but keep an eye out because there's no telling what's on the other side of the river bend!

English Learning Feature
Still Frame Art Gallery

Like all other Platinum editions, even this one will be available for a limited time only. So bring home Mowgli, Baghira, Baloo and Shere khan and all the lovable characters we've all grown up with, before they go back to Disney vault again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming and winsome fantasy about dreams of human heart, November 14, 2006
Makoto Shinkai's second film "The place promised in our early days" tells a beautiful, touching and complex tale of three school friends who share a secret and take a vow to unravel the secrets of the mysterious tower in a war torn land, in Japan but things go haywire as one of them falls into coma. Will the promise be kept? Well, that's what shapes the rest of the film in a visually stunning and unusual way.

From the very beginning the movie draws you in with the way it unfolds. The breathtaking scenery and the mesmerising background score leaves you speechless. Fans of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli films will undoubtedly love this movie since it almost has the same beauty and depth as their films. The dreamlike scenery, open spaces, lush backgrounds of the film transports the viewer to the alternate universe which the film talks about. The artwork of the film is absolutely stunning, one of the best I've ever seen. The story becomes more and more complex as things unfold hence a second viewing may be in store. But trust me, its so much worth it!

"The place promised in our early days" is a must have dvd and not to be missed film, not just for any anime fan but for anyone interested in beautiful and meaningful cinema. Trust me, that's a promise!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Sadly, Long-Awaited Collector's Edition Sucks Bigtime, November 5, 2006
Come January 23, Brokeback Mountain gets the much awaited 2-disc collector's edition dvd release. Sadly the new edition has very little to offer. Being a 2-disc collector's set, so much was expected from this edition...But all its got is a new DTS track and just 2 new featurettes, including "A groundbreaking success" (which I'm sure, as the title suggests, is nothing more than the people involved, appreciating each other), Music from the mountains (obviously only about the music) and an art gallery of still images!! Other than these, all the features from the previous release will be available on the disc which barely run for 45 minutes.

Being such a groundbreaking and talked about film, at least a Director's Commentary was expected for a special edition like this...Sadly its missing. Also, no real meaty extras here to give any in-depth look at the making of the film or the impact the film had. Maybe they've saved all these for a triple-dip in the future.

Sadly, being a big fan of the film, it was a long wait which ultimately ended in a huge disappointment. Few collectible cards and meaningless, weightless extras, is not what I was looking for in this was much, much more than that!

Its time, Universal realised that the fans are really pissed off with this upcoming extremely poor edition and delayed the release, to add some real special features on the discs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dont Let The CoverArt Fool You, The Film Is In BLACK AND WHITE!!!!, October 29, 2006
For some strange reason paramount added colors only to the cover and dvd menus. Good they stopped right there. Be assured, the movie is very much in Black And White only. Saw the screencaps from the dvd on a website. Not really sure if they have colorised version on the disc but the orginal B/W is certainly there.

Good news is this transfer is superior than the previous version released by Republic Studios. Unfortunately there are no new extras on the disc. Just the same 'Making of' and 'Tribute to Capra' featurettes which appeared on the previous release too.

Unfortunately, a true christmas classic such as this one still remains just another cash-in for studios like Paramount else there was absolutely no reason why they couldnt have given this a real special edition treatment.
