5.0 out of 5 stars 16:10, IPS with 90 degree rotation, June 21, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great monitor at a great price. I run a dual screen setup for my work, and I prefer monitors that are 16:10 ratio which have become more and more difficult to find. The additional advantage of being able to rotate vertical (for those who write code, or large chunks of text) is definitely a plus and also not a common feature in most Monitors.

Dell continues to provide a high quality IPS screen at reasonable prices and if you can find these in the 250$ to 275$ range you'd have a hard time finding something better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absent is the Safe Haven of a Chapter Break, February 1, 2013
This review is from: The Road (Paperback)
Absent of predetermined breaking points, I read 'The Road' in a single sitting. Afterwards, reflecting on the tone and intent of the story, it is clear to me that this was McCarthy's intent. The safe haven of chapter breaks completely absent, McCarthy shoves the reader into an exhaustive and emotional landslide of events. Never have I been this engrossed in a world and its characters, and my immersion in the story amplified the emotional weight of a father's drive to keep his son alive in an already dead world.

This book, and its author provide a beacon for the current and next generation of great American authors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Cave Story with a mostly well executed 3D enviornment., November 14, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Cave Story in all its incarnations has been an excellent product. I first played through it when the english translation patch was released many years ago for PC. I played it all the way through again when it hit the DSi store. This is the third time I've played the product and by large, the experience remains the same. Solid platforming mechanics with fantastic level design and player progression. Anyone who enjoys the gameplay styles of classic Metroid or Castlevania will feel right at home with Cave Story.

Gameplay aside, I have run into a few small issues with the 3DS version of the game.

1.) 3D Depth falls apart in certain limited areas in the game. Developers are still coming to terms with how to develop camera systems that work well with stereoscopic displays. One of the issues I have encountered on a number of 3DS titles is that the developers allow the 3D assets to get too close to the camera causing the images to tear/separate further apart than the eye can compensate for which is one of the primary causes of eye strain with stereoscopic images. Adjusting the 3DS' depth slider does little to alleviate this issue. There's a simple fix that can prevent this from happening which is to set an optimal camera plane distance, and to not allowed 3D assets to clip beyond this plane. If you can't implement this, then have items nearest the camera fade out so they don't break the ideal plane. Ocarina of Time and Skylanders Sypro's Adventure both do not exhibit this issue and should be used as reference for future developers working with stereoscopic images.

2.) Sometimes the graphic fidelity seems to take precedence over readability of the environment. What does this mean? too many details in the environment makes spotting spikes and death pits more difficult than it original was. This is coming from someone who is already very familiar with the layout of most of the content in the game. The foreground and background elements that help add parallax to the scene interfere with the main gameplay plane.

Both of the above are severely nit picky on an otherwise spectacular product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Mouse with horrible Middle Mouse Button Fail, November 14, 2011
A large number of the applications I run on both Windows and Mac require a fully functioning middle mouse button. I've been using a Microsoft Comfort Optical 3000 for the past two years, and have become increasingly infuriated by the inaccurate, stiff middle mouse button, and loose wheel. Applications like Google Sketchup, Autodesk Maya, Unity3D, Luxology Modo all require extensive use of middle mouse button for camera control. On Windows its easy enough to just map the thumb button to function as middle mouse which works perfectly fine (given you use the mouse with your right hand). Unfortunately this same trick doesn't work in a Mac environment nearly as well. Because i use this mouse in a dual boot situation with both Win7/MacOS X 10.6, I need a device that works perfectly in both situations.

As many other users have stated, the middle button is really the primary, and perhaps only failing of this device. If you use software that frequently requires pressing this button this is not the Mouse for you. Up until this device, I've always preferred Microsoft mice, but this model is a dud for functionality and has me investigating other brands for the first time in nearly a decade.
