The Wire Season 5
The Wire Season 5
DVD
Price: $28.99

2.0 out of 5 stars Three seasons would have been enough....., February 13, 2016
This review is from: The Wire Season 5 (Amazon Video)
I had hoped that The Wire would get back on track after th dismal Season 4, but it wasn't to be. Season 5 brings back McNulty as a full-blown alcoholic with none of his earlier screen presence, running a scam on "the bosses" with a fake serial killer. There's a very shallow portrayal of a newsroom, with Omar coming back as some kind of superman.

All of your favorite characters turn out to be just idols with feet of clay, and the worst characters of the series are allowed to remain around to ruin the credibility of the storylines. The Wire had just enough juice for the first three seasons. It would have been a better series had it ended there instead of dragging on for two very poorly done encore seasons.

3.0 out of 5 stars The weakest season of the series, February 12, 2016
This review is from: The Wire: Season 4 (DVD)
The 4th season is where The Wire kind of drops the ball. Getting into the lives of teenagers lowers the tone, partly because of poor acting, partly because the kid they push to the front of the story (the Naymond Bryce character) is an insufferable little punk played by an actor with no discernible talent. The characters from earlier seasons who were already over the top as "larger than life" become a little less credible, as well.

It's unforgivable, as well, that the writers show the killers' nail gun as a nearly silent tool, when a powder actuated Hilti is as loud as any pistol. Why this tool is written into the script as a character is a mystery. The killers already had battery powered nail gun that would be as quiet as they wanted us to believe the Hilti was.

The story also veers off into the lives of the politicians, and those characters are even less interesting than the teenagers. None of the actors playing the roles of politicians are good at the job of acting. Still, the story keeps us hooked, and the characters who made us care about the city and the people manage to carry this season well enough to get fans through.

The actors who pay the following roles: Marla Daniels, Clay Davis, Kima Greggs and Naymond Bryce are every bit as awful as the characters they portray. Casting these actors in anything is a mistake. None of them would have been acceptable in anything other than one line walk on parts.

One other problem with this series is that the subtitles, always poorly done, are even less accurate in season 4 than they were in the first three seasons. In season 4, the subtitles seem to be written by people who haven't read the script and depend on their tin ears to fill in for the hearing impaired. Slim Charles tell Bodie that "Nary a Barksdale is left" and the tin eared subtitle writers translate that into "Mayor Barksdale is left". This kind of thing goes on in every episode.

The 4th season is the weakest in terms of storyline and acting ability. Suffer through it and things get a little better in the final season.

Poorly written, poor acting and directing. Havana is tired and poverty stricken, too drab for 1957 Havana, so the scenery doesn't help. This would have looked better at least if it had been filmed somewhere else.

NOCO TZKIT4 Lead-Free OEM Zinc Battery Terminal Kit
NOCO TZKIT4 Lead-Free OEM Zinc Battery Terminal Kit

2.0 out of 5 stars Generic universal fit, not "OEM", January 1, 2016
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The terminal currently sold on this listing are NOT the same terminals being reviewed here. The reviews here are for heavy, cast milspec terminals. The ones being sold here, as pictured, are light weight stamped and zinc plated terminals with 3/8ths studs on both terminals. For this to be OEM type, the positive terminal should have 1/4" stud. The reversible bolt feature is bad because instead of a square hole and a carriage bolt, the terminal has a flange to hold a square head bolt. This flange makes it very hard to get a wrench onto the nut for tightening.

These aren't good. They can be made to work, but that isn't the purpose of buying an item listed as "OEM". I'll leave these on long enough to find a decent replacement. When I find a replacement, it won't be NOCO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great pads, December 25, 2015

Great pads. Low dust, pre-scorched eliminating break in. What little dust showed up on my wheels was not even noticeable and easily washed off. The pads are quiet and provide excellent stopping power.

This control arm makes more sense than replacing bushings and ball joints. The ride was much improved on my PT after adding these.

Sturdy, with keyway in the slot which allows use of existing screws in the register grille without backing the screws all the way out. I sent back the Frost King brand and kept this one due to its superior construction and features.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inhumane kill traps, not a live trap at all., November 27, 2015
Mice suffocate in these traps. After one use, I threw out these traps. The first mouse I caught was suffocated and had tried desperately to get back out the door, bloodying his mouth and nose. Cruel way to kill mice.
